Announced this morning.

So much for every man and his dog with his "sauce" at Carlton claiming he already had the job.

Posted

Until the official word is out, my guess is that -

1) he was influenced by his meeting with matthews on Monday, and decided not to pursue a senior coahing role

or

2) the pending court case might be a real problem for him.

Posted
or

4) he wants to become a movie star, and sees his TV work as the stepping stone.

or

5) he wants to learn the caper as an assistant to Sheedy at Melbourne, succeeding the old coot when he passes McHale's record.

Bollocks I know but I thought I'd get a few on here salivating !

Posted

Well he has ruled out the Carlton job... that doesn't necessarily mean he has ruled out the Melbourne job too. They BELIEVE he will stay in the media next year but he hasn't officially come out and announced that yet.

If Voss turned down the Carlton job, he won't want any senior coaching role. In my opinion its clearly the best option for a wannabe coach

Hopefully we'll try and get him as an assistant, if he is half as good as everyone makes him out to be

Posted

He will stay with Channel 10 in 2008 and I am pretty damn sure he is saving his coaching debut for his beloved Lions in 2009 when Lethal decides to move on....

Would have chatted to his best mate Lethal, and they would have decided that now is not the right time to jump into a senior coaching position.... Unless of course he does leave Channel 10 and joins Matthews in an assistant role?!?!?!

Would not surprise me in the slightest!!

Posted

Hmmm... here are my two theories:

1) He wants to do an assistant role first, so he can take over from Matthews at the end of 2009 (come on down!)

2) He realised Carlton are rubbish and didn't know how else to let them down gently ;)

If nobody gets him, I won't mind... just as long as we don't lose out to Freo or Essendon!

He is not coaching anywhere. Melbourne, Essendon, Fremantle, Carlton.

His manager notifed all the clubs that has contacted him and so no deal. He is definately not coaching ANYWHERE in 2008.

Ummm..... Pretty sure we have established that already!?!?!?!

Not coaching anywhere only refers to "Senior" position though.... Don't be surprised if he takes on an Asst. role at The Lions!!

I know but alot of people are still writing on here like we still might get him, we are not going to at all. No one is gonna steal him from us, he probably wont even be an assistant but if he does def the Lions.

So why did Essendon move pre emptively on Sheedy?

What did they think they would miss out on?

They would have planned the Board meeting discussion several weeks before Pagan jumped.

perhaps wanted to signal to Thompson - don't sign on with the cats

keep daniher/harvey from freo - or to signal that the bombers were now an option to other candidates. Voss may have been a red herring all along for some.

maybe carlton/pagan was coincidental and agood story for them. Just the same, the fact that 3 clubs were still in the market may have been a concern.

Pagan was a dead man walking at Carlton and has been so for at 12 months prior.

You could send those signals to Thompson without playing your hand.

Harvey is assistant at Freo so he wont be available until year end.

Daniher is a free agent and they could have spoken to him on the quiet.

It does not add up why they did it when they did.

I think Vossy has made the right choice, especially for himself. It certainly makes all the scenarios curioser and curiouser by far.:blink:

If Bummers Board was happy to wait on Bummer Thompson there was not need to jump last week on sheedy (another 2 weeks time would not have made any diffference). Maybe was about to come out in the media??

With Voss out and Harvey and Ratten in respective box seats at Freo and Carlton if those 2 perform well they would now be the front runners there. Esp freo based on their Pres's mouthing off (maybe same speach coach as PG used re ND).

Leaves MFC and EFC as uncertain positions (subject to any new clubs joining in the merry go around!). ND would be on short list re EFC and KS an option for MFC.

If the cards fall that way my guess is that MFC short list would now be from

Sheedy (on mentoring basis) with either Viney or McKenna to understudy

McKenna

Chris Connolly

...the Rest --daylight.

Ratten would be main threat to this if doesnt stay at Blues. That will only be if he shows he is no good - not sure if Blues dont win another game all year will show that tho"! If that was the case why would MFC appoint him as senior coach?? Same applies to Harvey and Riley - is the risk of caretaker position although with lower expectations.

If it is to be Sheedy to mentor an assistant to take over then I would like to see at least 2 of Todd Viney, Brett Lovett and Mark Williams (Sandy) as the coaching panel. Latter 2s coaching ablity is respected.

Well this years coaching race is a bit like a high stakes poker game. Lots of bluff and counter bluff. Essendon it seems were always going to part with Kev only timing being a contention. They got caught out with other 'resignations' and were forced to anti up needlessly possibly. Vossing folding wasnt expected , its shuffled the deck a bit. The game isnt over by a long shot. This is much more fun than watching the footy !! lol

Agree......I think he made the right choice as well, and it sounds like he took Lethals advice not to rush into it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
