Much ado about nothing in here. JT will get it right.

I have a healthy respect for JT but there a few early picks <25 on our list that really have yet to fire a shot at AFL level.

It is far from a precise science imho and picking guys earlier than widely anticipated carries risk

That's the thing with Vin. His skillset allows him to play inside bull or inside bull.

He's shown he can kick goals from stoppage in the forward line with 3 defenders trying to drag him down, he can block for Kozzie and hopefully the new small fwd we draft, and defenders like Whitfield and Jordon Clark would no doubt feel a little rushed with him lurking nearby.

I can't believe people are looking past Sharp as the best bet. He is the only high possession type midfielder in the top 20. What's the point of anyone who kicks well, runs and turns, if he is only going to get it 15-20 times at AFL level. We desperately need an accumulating midfielder. All our other midfelders are in the 20-25 group - we've got enough of them.

We are in a talent accumulation phase of a rebuild, there’s no rush to draft to fill holes. Drafting a B grade average mid is a great way to burn a pick too, even if the guy has a long career it’s still not a great pick. If that’s where they rate Sharp there’s nothing wrong with not taking him. We’ll have many more better drafts to find A grade mids.

Also Langford will be our primary accumulator. We need another in and under type but it’s not a rush.

I think L.Pickett is arguably the type of player we need most. A magician. Tie him to Kozzie at training and barring any concerns on professionalism he would be instrumental in improving our forward line.

However judging where he goes in this draft is not easy. Could be early teens to 20 pre-biddng perhaps? Not sure how we get him unless if he's still there say pick 15ish we start offering gc future 1st.

As for 7 and 8. I guess it's all on who Taylor ranks them. I'll support trading picks as he sees fit.

A masterclass in saying nothing. (And I wouldn't have expected anything else.)

Was there a slight hint that we may not select a small forward with those early picks..?

Seemed to be the case

If we can’t trade in an extra pick in the first round we might look to pick one with 37 (we seem to focus more on needs later in the draft/the mid season draft)

Talor Byrne would be handy

He was my initial thought for that later pick too.

I wouldn’t be at all surprise if we took Talor Byrne with pick 37

On the other side of it, what's the point of a midfielder who gets it 30-35 times but turns it over 10-15 of those. We've had our share of those too

He had a bet each way.

Keep them guessing.

Sharp is a good player and will provide excellent value to a team that selects him over a long period.

The issue is more about how many of these players a team can carry at any time. You can’t select 23 players who all win the ball 30 times because that’s not how the game is played. You don’t have the opportunity to have every player around the ball all game to do that. There are only so many possessions to win in a game and if you have too many accumulators they just start winning possessions against each other - they cannibalise their own ball winning value.

Your need to complement a select few midfield ball winners with players that can turn those wins into scores and prevent the opposition from doing the same. If teams already have a player like Sharp then he’ll be less valuable to them and more valuable to teams that don’t.

Sharp is a very good player but I’ll be surprised if we pick him.

Yep, clearly a troll now.

Hahaha… didn’t realise questioning a club picking a player at pick 10 that no other analyst has picked under 25 is trolling…

BTW I’ve watched Nairns highlight list and he doesn’t come close to a top ten pick. Regardless, I’ll be proven right come draft night as there isn’t a chance that dees pick him with their 2 first picks

My last post on this topic.

Cal Twomey has linked us with him in his latest draft rankings and Mark McGowen has us selecting him at pick 11.

Would you have thought these highlights would have spat out a 2x Brownlow medal superstar in years to come?

Can you please explain to us why Nairn is one of 13 players to be invited to draft night if he’s not getting selected?
