For all the doom and gloom regarding a weak draft, the GWS recruiter believes this year is good to about 12 or 13, excluding the academy and F/S kids. In his opinion, it falls away quickly after 15, and they probably won't use any of their later picks. I think Taylor has something in mind for 7 & 8, and I never expected we would have such a dramatic cleanout.

We've gone from barely participating due to late picks and pre-commitments (White, Sinnema) to right up the interesting end and in a position to live trade like wild creatures.

I wonder... if Harry Dean hasn't gone by pick 6, would Carlton want to trade up their 9 and 11, in exchange for 6 plus some 'cash-in' selections?

Everyone gains, with the caveat that Carlton is included in everyone.

No such thing as 100% for top 4 picks. Too many disappointments there as well. We should know from past experience. Playing the numbers game is still high risk.

As I say would love if one of Robey, Grjl, Sharp or Taylor drop to us but I think its unlikely at this stage.

sharp and greeves scare me theyre 2012-2022 coded midfleiders, they win teh ball yes but they cant kick, langford is our guy for that going forward and rivers offers enough too, we need class and composure, players who can use the ball inside and out. greeves certainly doesnt impact scoreboard like robey does, sharp has done it a few times but wouldnt rely on it

maybe @spirit of norm smith man rory wright or is that a reach there? would be a nice HB/mid option but also could be a lockdown small in time too, dont think there is any concern about "matching" the kalani bid, will fall to us as woey did at the end of proceedings with our last live selection

or talor byrne if we go NHH, didnt realise he trained with us in PS that also makes him a likely JT selection, especially if we think dovaston is a reach at 8

I've put in zero effort this year looking at tapes of this current crop of draftees. I thought I'd start last night, but it was just a cursory glance.

I've heard that Sullivan Robey has shot up the draft boards in a similar fashion to Oliver in 2015, so I started with him. Admittedly, it's a tiny sample size, but my goodness he looked ordinary. He's supposedly top 10 quality ? Maybe I just started with his worst video. Bad kicks, dropped marks, errant handballs, and the slowest decision maker you'd ever see. I'll look at more videos, but the round 19 talent league game I saw I couldn't have been less impressed. If he's a top 10 draft selection no wonder they're complaing about this year's draft.

I think any combination of Grilj, Lindsay & Dovaston if we keep picks 7 & 8 would be a fantastic result.

Grilj - Speed & Endurance, Line-breaker & full of xfactor

Lindsay - Looks to be the best kick in it, composed, good decision maker & leadership qualities having captained most of the teams he’s played for.

Dovaston - we’ve really lacked any kind of small fwd with high end talent & ability to hit the scoreboard since Kozzie, looks to be a bit in the Nick Watson type mold.

Lindsay sounds like a clone of his namesake?

Do we take a Sharp or Greeves type if they fall to us?

I know we’ve all been crying out for more outside midfielders, but we probably don’t have that young developing inside bull other than Langford (of course that depends how much you see Windsor, Kolt and Lindsay developing in that mould)

Im pretty aligned with this as well.

I think with where the game is going, all 3 prospects fit the sort of game style Kingy is talking about.

I know some question Grjl ball use at times but i really do love his break away speed and X factor.

Doveston is exactly the kind of small forward this club has lacked over the journey. The annoying and cocky type similar to a Nick Watson type.

Unfortunately every pick over 60 is worth zero points. They can go into deficit in next years draft, might put the GCS pick back a couple of picks

A tier: (Serong, Flanders, Sanders, Ginbey, Caldwell, Lindsay) at most 3 players - Robey, X Taylor, Sharp

B+ tier: maybe 8-10 different players but very light on for talls or sure thing mids. It’s mostly flankers who can progress to midfield or star in their role.

Adrian Caruso (GWS recruiter) said on SEN yesterday that they really rate the first 12 or so, though I can’t remember the exact words he used, then drops off after that. Top end not as elite as usual, as you have said. But it seems that our range (7/8 moving to 11/12ish) may actually be at a normal quality for that range.
