Derksen plays in the NEAFL, itโ€™s a terrible competition. Lever was injured all year and he is light years ahead of Derksen and plays well before Adams

Derksen plays in the VFL comp like everyone else.

Giants are affiliated with the NEAFL comp anymore and haven't been for a few years now.

Totally agree. Dunno much about Derksen but to think he is replacement for May or keeps Lever out of the team is fantasy. He canโ€™t get a game at the Giants, and is not even on our list!

I've already explained above why I don't see Lever in the team, but I'll do it again. He struggles to join in on offence, struggles 1v1 against any size, and isn't quick. He doesn't suit the game style that is ball park Geelong.

Correct. Personally i think Lever obviously appeals to North, if we can get Zane Duursma out of it there is a potential win-win to be had there.

Iโ€™d prefer to keep May than Lever. He is a far more capable player even now.

Lever surprisingly seems to have some value.

Comparing May to JUH is crazy talk.

May was captain of the Suns, an AA, a premiership player.

Yes he's had some issues, but he's also played 250 games, which is not something you achieve by being a total disaster off the field, hanging out with the wrong people, not turning up to the club etc etc.

May has a young family, and is still hungry for success. JUH has no idea if he's coming or going, and has publicly trashed people. He is a nightmare.

We need to show May a lot more respect than to put him in the same bucket as JUH!

All in all, he could rightly be seen as a divisive figure in the locker room when the Dogs currently need anything but. On top of the fact that May is no longer a top defender in the competition and hasn't been for some time now. Champion of the club and easily our best pure defender of this generation, but far from perfect over the journey - we all should be across the string of incidents by now.

As a side note, Lindsay was a shell of himself after that aggressive and totally uncalled for real time feedback he received from May on KB - how to kill the confidence of a kid.

Gees some negative takes here. My take is May at his best was one of the few players who alone turned a game out way off his own back. The best type of leadership.

One of a few players that 2021 relied on and therefore I cant be negative about him. Maybe he had some negative behaviour but we don't know the full story.

This is a different argument. I would absolutely do a deal for Lever if we got the right price but if he stays he is definitely playing before Derksen. People are listing Levers faults but if can play as the 3rd tall, he is one of the best at it. He is not a 1 on 1 defender has never been one, he is an intercept defender.

No i agree, he's a third tall who can intercept and reads the play at an elite level, he's also a high level on field leader which is why a lot considered him a future captain.

I personally think though the position we're in, if we can get a really good return for someone like Lever, or Salem, or Langdon, we should absolutely have a look at it.

May has been brilliant for us, he was part of the best defence Iโ€™ve seen at our club.

I loved Goodwin and May at MFC, but it'stime to move on.

I am quite surprised at the number of player moves we are making consider the coach does not have his feet under the table.

But his car's been seen in the carpark a few times ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‰

If this is genuinely us saying โ€œwe canโ€™t guarantee youโ€™re best 23 next year, so you may want to find another club to get more game timeโ€, Iโ€™m OK with that.

If he leaves, I will be sad, but I see the logic. Peak May was a beast, made us tough to play against, brought leadership (albeit with a side of problems), and was essential to the flag. But peak May is a thing of the past now, sadly.

Doesnโ€™t make our decision to sign him up at the start of the year look very smart, though.

It is worth remembering here that Lindsay spent much of the preseason rehabbing a knee injury sustained last year. I rather suspect much of his drop-off in the second half of the season was fatigue/fitness related.

Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg, Idun, Ash, Aleer and Fonti are the reason Derksen can't get a game at the Giants.

I would guess all of those players would make our side.

Bulldogs would be mad not to take him at the right price

Donโ€™t reckon the Dogs would be after a character like May, after the year theyโ€™ve had with JUH.

I think the Aints are the watch on May, especially with Wilkie talking to the Dogs.

A welcome move.

I thoroughly enjoyed Steve's work as a defender and I am grateful for his role in the 2021 flag, but as good as he was (is) as a player, I don't think he was as good as a teammate or club man. Entrecรดte was very revealing. So thanks, cobber, and goodbye.

100%

The most lauded and respected defence in the AFL

But....the new backline that King wants to construct, will begin to take shape

One of my favourite players in recent times. Loved his passion and relentless driving of standards. Sad to see him go, but itโ€™s the right call.

Cheers Maysie, all the best

Another way to look at this is when we moved on McDonald Jnr to blood the newer generation - how did those decisions pan out? A rebuild of a rebuild?

I still think May even banged up and slowing down will likely be ahead of the person who replaces him just based on the law of averages and the last thirty years of our defensive players.

Certainly in terms of a hard, tall strong imposing HB he was the most solid I've ever seen at the Dees.

Why would we want to play a third tall who can't join in on offence or line break?

Which teams are structuring up like this?

Geelong is the closest comparison with Gutherie, Henry and Stewart, but Guthrie for example carries the ball and joins in on offence.

Lever has never shown this ability IMO.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
