Thought some might be interested to know that the West Coast Eagles have tabled a 6 year offer to Chad Warner which is front loaded with the early years at $2million per year.
WCE are stacked with Draft picks in next year’s Draft, so expect it to happen.

I don’t believe an offer has been tabled, but they have certainly been active for some time and I suspect will ramp up their intensity should Judd commence the year strongly.  Warner is their clear priority.

Warner is overrated for mine. Much like Heeney and even Gulden. I’d reckon most of the Swans team are overrated, particularly given their output the past 2 GF’s.

That's a lot of cash but the same deal will likely be available in 2 more years when he can move as a free agent and thus strengthen their team without costing them the farm. Plus he'll be joining early peak Harley Reid and a bunch of other good draft picks who have 2-4 years under their belt.

I'd still bet that he signs for 2 more to get him to free agency.

Just a heads up on Harley. In my opinion I'm not sure about a positive or negative influence he could have on West Coast. This could in turn have influence on who stays or goes there.

I had a lot of respect for Warner after the 2022 GF. Basically the only player that stood up on the day and could hold his head up high across a disgraceful team performance.

But yeah your point stands about their side being overated and then being exposed on GF day.

I reckon they don't expect Reid to stick around, so they're going early so as to convince Reid and others.

I can't see Reid staying at the Eagles.

Leaving aside the go home factor, they are years away from being a genuine flag contender. Arguably the tigers are closer given their incredible bounty of top end draft picks.

Maybe he says, come with me boys, I'll take you on my back to the promised land.

But I think it's more likely he'll leave when his contract is up for a Victorian club that is the premiership window.

If so, it could be a win win for the Eagles like the Judd - Kennedy scenario as, assuming no injury issues, clubs will pay through the nose for him - and for good reason, kid is a genuine star (though given how AFL ready he was physically, he's pretty close to his ceiling already I reckon- a bit like Ollie Wines when he was drafted).

On Kennedy, I just checked the Eagles all time goal kicking list.

Incredibly he is leading it by 199 from Darling and 200 from club legend Peter Sumich.

Luke Parker kicked 3 goals in the GF, also in junk time and is now at North.

I presume Warner warrants a thread because of possible flow-on benefits to us?

Anyways, see my post on the 'Petty Back??' thread. Warner golfed with (ex-Swan) Eagles. And more decision-maker types than Harry teed off with!

Thanks Goodwindees, makes a lot of sense.

Hearing Bombers will offer Reid a massive deal and also have 2025 picks and future picks to get a deal done

makes sense for West Coast to offer Warner that sort of deal in advance

There is an interesting article in the age today about reid. Effectively saying he turned up out of shape, got concussed and now has a calf issue. Also discussed the balance the Eagles have with keeping him happy but also enforcing standards.

Reid is signed until the end of 2026 which is when Tassie gets picks (I think)

If Petracca did decide he wanted out at years end, you couldn't be more certain of anything other than the MFC will be making an enormous offer to Harley Reid and sending the picks from a Trac trade to the WCE to get it done.

From the sound of it he is returning to Victoria quite soon, and it just so happens that TWSNBN have popped up on the radar.

Swans have known for quite some time that both Warner and Logan McDonald want to go home. Apparently with Warner it's a matter of when.

My uneducated thoughts make me wonder if Reid already thinks he’s above/beyond the Eagles.

Turning up unfit in year 2 is exactly the opposite of what you want to see and a few injuries in a row could effectively kill the entire year (see Petty/Clarry etc)

I hope he finds a level of professionalism of a Trac (football only) or Pendlebury so we can all watch him reach dizzying heights - wherever that may be

Thanks.

You're right - that is an interesting article.

I really like Peter Ryan, one of the best sport journos I reckon.

And it's a good article.

But you have to think part of the deal with the Eagles to get the interviews was not being critical of Reid

I say that in the context of giving him a complete pass on not coming back in tip top shape, in fact coming back in what sounds like pretty average shape.

We've just had the draft, where a huge premium is placed on young  men being uber professional and driven.

Sure, go home, recharge your batteries and have a good break. But surely minimum expectation foe all players is they do the required work to start the preseason in good shape.

I doubt a single demonland poster would give Windsor a pass if he came back in poor shape.

And I thought this part of the article was strange:

'The Eagles plan to treat him like any other player – as Reid wants to be treated – but that is not always simple, as some of the issues he might be forced to deal with are different to the average player’s.'

By strange I mean, it seems as if the Eagles are not treating him like any other player as returning in good shape is a mimimum expectation of all players and Ryan doesn't suggest he has received any consequences (which is not to say he hasn't).

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
