We have McVee, Sestan, Verrall and K.Turner as rookies.

37 on the senior list we can have up to 38 on the senior list can't we?

Leaves us with cutting K.Turner, putting Melksham on the rookie list and picking pick 42.

As stated in the OP. I expect Melksham to be moved onto the rookie list and we'll have 2 picks in the National Draft and 1 in the Rookie Draft.

If we can package 6 & 11 up to move up to 1, then we'll use Pick 42. If we keep 6 & 11 then I expect we'll pass at 42 and hope we can get Brown in the Rookie Draft.

Yes probably see Kye Turner delisted.  Can’t see him staying on given we would want to add 6,11 and Kynan Brown (use pick 42 to match if required) and a rookie.  Hopefully Billy Wilson as a rookie if he’s available.

Why would we delist him, when he has been injured most of the season and hasn’t had the chance to show us his ability.

We won't 'pass' on #42; it is too valuable:  it will probably come in a few spots after all the gcs round 2 picks have been used for academy players.

If we intend to not use it in a pre draft pick upgrade, it will be cashed in at some stage before or on draft night for a pick for Brown and or a future pick.

Delist him, have him as a train on and then take him in the PSD because we move Melk onto the long term injury list.

Does this work?

him = Kye Turner.

Question for folks:  If Melksham goes onto the LTI list is it for the whole of 2024 or can he be brought back onto the senior list to play later in the year...?

I agree. He showed some real promise particularly in that practice match against the Saints earlier this year.

42 will end up being around 33 by the end of bid matching

We can still use it to trade up higher right up to draft night

Gold Coast have 3 players and 6 picks before it, so it will be 39. (Dogs haven’t any picks before it to be eaten up for Croft)

edit: hawks have f/s in McCabe but all picks used for it are after 42

Disagree with the above. I started working on a mock draft last night, and while I do have it coming in, I only have it coming into 40. Gold Coast have a heap of Picks before us yes, but most will be chewed up with their first academy player. Then they'll mainly be using picks with points after our Pick 42. Throw in Bulldogs and Hawks using points for Father Son selections with picks after our 42. It won't be as drastic a pick upgrade from 42 as some think it will be.

Didn't stop us delisting Declase I think the same will happen.

I think we've been saving 42 for K.Brown.

Brown not worth 42 rookie pick at best.

K. Turner played 6 games for Casey and is 6 years younger than Declase was.

Not sure how many games Declase played for Casey.

With issues with Joel Smith that might help him.

K Turner's kicking looks below the level required IMO. We already have a lot of depth in the key backs plus we are good chance to pick up another tall defender (O'Sullivan or Curtain).

I can't argue, because I haven't seen enough of him.

I don't agree however that we have enough depth in the key backs, as May is nearing the end, Tomlinson will go next year, Adams is not a certainty to make AFL standard and that leaves us only Turner at 193 cms, not the biggest of key defenders to play on the Lynch, Hawkins types.

Petty who is now a forward, could also be gone next year.

If we take a young key defender in the draft that would be good, but he may need a couple of years to be ready for the AFL.

We played two or three defenders each week this year, so key defenders are only 9-15% of the players in the 23. So I think we have about the right number on the list, especially given there is evidence that Petty and/or JVR can go back.

We are better off focusing on drafting high quality players at any position and trading next year to keep the balance in our list. I also don't think you need to plan too far ahead given the amount of player movement these days. We have another window before 2025 if we have an issue.

Anyway, it looks like we will not be taking three picks in the draft according to Tim Lamb.

Did Lamb say that?

I thought we would use 6 and 11 and K. Brown F/S with our last.

Fair enough.

So we are possibly either trading up for one high pick and maybe Brown later, or if we can't trade up, use both high picks and maybe Brown as a rookie.

Unless he forgot about Brown, or we are not taking him, which I don't think is the case.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
