Demonland has made the difficult decision to not to permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I'm no expert but didn't give the impression of an ACL.

More like an awkward inward hyper extension with some significant bruising.

Fingers crossed

Please me right DD. If you are then I'll send a crate of beer to your house.

Well I hope it's not the dreaded ACL. He has been a very handy player for us. A player we really can't afford to lose because he plays as a defensive forward and is a good mark and shot for goal.

Plus he deserves to play finals and have a crack at the big one

Devastated for him. He’s been great tail end of the season and was looking like he might get the fairytale finish to his career. Instead it’s looking like nightmare finish.
Seems wrong to just let him leave the club with his knee rooted. Could we delist him and then pick him up as a rookie? Or have him work with our forwards in some capacity?

The club will do everything it can to ensure he leaves with his knee back in shape but it may well be the end. Cruel, mean and nasty.

I am waiting to hear the news.

Fingers crossed Jake Melksham will be ok? 🤞

Sadly, I think an ACL injury would end his career.

I remember when I did my ACL in my right knee playing football. I was jumping up in a marking contest and landed awkwardly and I heard a kind of "popping" noise. That was my ACL tearing apart. 😕

Anyway, I genuinely wish Jake Melksham all the best. He has been an excellent player for us. Especially in the 2nd half of the year when Bayley Fritsch was out injured and we needed someone to step up in our forward line.

I wish him well. I'm strongly of the view that Melksham will move into coaching, eventually with ambition to be a senior coach.

Does anyone know what the rules are for players with injuries like this which come at the end of a contract? Because it's a 12 month injury (usually) do we have a legal obligation to keep him on our list next year? Or, if he's out of contract, do we just not offer him a new one? It's a messy end, either way, unless he was already adamant that he wanted to retire at season's end.

Without this injury JM would have been offered another year simply because our forward stocks are so low.

Hopefully it's the 12 week type of knee problem rather than the 12 month one.

Does raise the issue of insurance/compensation for players like JM and Dunstan who are both facing a loss of income from final year or country football etc

He was thinking about what he was going to do post football in 2022 and then got a reprieve and thank goodness he did. Jake saved our bacon whilst waiting for Bayley to return.

If the injury isn't the worst imaginable I would say that if he would go again given what he has shown the last couple of weeks. He really loves the Club, players and supporters and is one of the nicest people you could meet. Just watching him in the forward line encouraging and advising the younger players I would love to see him look at coaching but then again he may be ready to move on, spend more time with his young family and start the next chapter of his life.

God I hope it's nothing too serious, he's been a fan favorite of mine for a few years now.  Just such a great positive vibe and attitude towards the game and always looks like he tries more than anyone else out there, never gives up...DON'T GIVE UP MILKSHAKE NEVER GIVE UP NEVER SURRENDERRRRRRRRR

Melky turns 32 tomorrow (!).

If he needs a knee reco and is out for a year, I think it might be curtains* for him at AFL level, sadly.

*  Not saying I wouldn't trade him for Curtin.  :D

Omg it’s his birthday tomorrow. Poor thing what a shocking “present”.

IF he has done an ACL and if that means he will retire, I think our culture will see that he will get another year's pay of some sort and then be delisted, at a time we can replace him, say to upgrade a rookie.

That way he will have one year of income and we will have our list place.

The rest of the list and all the player managers would be watching on and that will enhance our reputation as a club that puts it's players first and continue to drive our culture of "we are all in it together".

Except it worked yesterday.

5 goals for the team in the 2.5 quarters before his injury is hardly evidence of that.

I posted this in another thread. I think it sits better here. It appears Melksham is done for the rest of the season but was instrumental in getting us to stay in the top 4 and the team now be considered a serious contender.

If (when) we win the big one 23 players will receive a premiership medal, Melks won’t. I reckon the 23 players deserve and should get ‘player’ medals but I feel anyone who was named in the playing 23 throughout the season should also be given a separate ‘premiership team’ medal. (Could be given at the B&F night later on). Rationale being that it is a team game and they contributed throughout the season.

This way people like Melksham would get due recognition for how they contributed throughout the year. (Similar for Jones back in 2022).
This should be instigated and ‘minted’ by the AFL.  Lastly, if this already occurs…. sorry.

Terrible blow for Melk & Luke.

Melk really was making a difference up forward for us with Fritta out.

What a great effort to make it back into the team and hit peak performance when we needed the lift.

He is the ultimate pro and has given us some fabulous memories and contributions.

Please....no more player podcasts before or during finals mods! 🙏🏼

    PODCAST: Jason Taylor Interview

I'm interviewing the Melbourne Football Club Recruitment Manager Jason Taylor early next week on the Demonland Podcast. I'll be asking him about moving up the draft order, our new recruits (both Draftees and Trades), Daniel Curtin, our recent recruits who have yet to play a senior game, who he thinks will be the next Judd McVee and more. If you have any further questions let me know below and I'll see if I can squeeze them in. I will release the podcast either Monday or Tuesday.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE by Meggs

It was a hot afternoon at IKON where the ferocious Cats came to play, had read the manual on how to beat us and the Demons were unable to match them for the first three quarters.     With physical pressure, they took the game on with relative ease and though our resistance seemed better than the previous two weeks it was still not good enough.     Within the opening minute, Kate Hore marks within range, but her shot was a miss-kick, like a fat iron, and it kinda set a flat tone f

    TURNAROUND by Meggs

Following successive comprehensive defeats by fellow Top Four heavyweights the Demons play down a division this Sunday against the highly promising Cats.     Strangely, no games against the Cats for five seasons and now we play them twice in one season.     With the blueprint on how to defeat the Dees available on the dark web the real question is, will we crumble again under the finals pressure cooker or will we rediscover our #DemonSpirit and execute a turnaround?   Mak

THE SECRET IS OUT by Meggs

We were expecting that after last week’s comprehensive defeat by Brisbane, our coach Mick Stinear would have his charges coming out breathing finals fire. Instead, it was North who had the aggression, the numbers, who blocked our scoring avenues and rendered us impotent, unable to match the Kangas during any phase of the match.   Darren Crocker, the North coach, later highlighted that how to beat Melbourne is no secret following recent losses to Adelaide and Brisbane and now North.

CATCH EM ON THE HOP by Meggs

A sunny Sunday afternoon feast of finals footy awaits at our team’s favourite home ground, Ikon Park.  Great vibes at Princes Park where we remain undefeated from 7 matches and counting. Expect the Dees to come out strongly, sparring and outmuscling the Kangaroos in the middle.  With Paxy back firing and our gun forwards mesmerising, hopefully we catch ‘em on the hop. Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane have filled ten of the twelve Grand Final spots in AFLW history, and this dominance

    COLD AGGRESSION by Meggs

“Cold aggression”, Lions star full forward Dakota Davidson called it. Brisbane outmuscled, outran, and ultimately overwhelmed us. They certainly came to play and exorcised their 2022 grand final grudge defeating the Demons in the rematch by 25 points. Stats count and Brisbane won the key ones. Inside 50s 42 to 24, centre clearances 8 to 6, uncontested possessions 133 to 75 and 51 marks to 27. The Lions’ sustained pressure is the kind we usually bring for other teams.   There

    HOME PRIZE by Meggs

Big stakes this weekend. For the winner, will it be a Dees minor premiership and potential home grand final or will it be a Lion‘s Top Four finish and a double chance?    Huge interest circulates in the how the ladder unfolds over this weekend’s final round of the 2023 home and away season with some 10 teams vying for 8 places.     It’s AFLW Pride Week, a celebration of people from all walks of life coming together, being respected, loved and accepted.
