Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah doesn’t impose himself on the game with physicality but always runs to the right spots and is a lovely kick both at goal and around the ground

That's what I sort of thought - feel we need our bigger bodies to be crashing packs, inflicting pain.....

Agree he's big enough - issue is whether he'll use that size to actually impose himself....

In the highlights I saw of Jefferson playing as a junior, it seemed he excelled in an emptied out forward line where he could beat a 1 on 1 opponent.
I believe he won’t get this at Casey in the same line up as seasoned vets like brown/tmac and even Schache. Whether or not he needs this to exploit his greatest attributes is yet to be seen.
Happy for him to have something of a gap year, developing in the gym and working on adding strings to his bow whilst we have other options ahead of him.

Be interested on your take on The Shack - I haven't seen much of him at Casey but during the game with the D's I thought he looked like he had good skills with ball in hand but didn't use his size to impose himself - bit like the Weed, tentative at times....am I misreading his game?

No. Suggest you seek a job at the Deez as JT's 2IC.

Don't understand as a supposed Melb. supporter why you would continually bag a 19 year old kid?  Just bizarre. And while you're at it, listen to your inner voice, the one that tells you to STFU.

It’s not saying that. It’s saying ignore the noise you know you’re right. I’m actually not bagging him, this is a cut throat business and I don’t see enough strengths for this guy to become a regular player at the level. You may believe differently and that’s fine. Isn’t this a discussion forum? you’ve resorted to abuse as your form of discussion I’m just stating what I see. Maybe watch a few Casey games and give us your view of his strengths

i watch casey's every game

he was much better earlier in the season when he didn't have additional talls competing in the same role

positives based on what i've seen:

  • he runs to the right spots
  • his hands are quite good
  • his kicking shows penetration and accuracy

negatives based on what i've seen:

  • he doesn't appear to have much tank
  • he's as skinny as a rake
  • his hangs his head when things don't go the way he wants

you're just another hanrahan, typical of too many on this platform that want perfection and only ever look for the negative

Thanks for your observations. I’ll stop critiquing the kid as it clearly offends some. It’s not meant to although my tone isn’t always great

Our forward structure was Brown-Tmac, Fritta and Gawn/Jackson in our Premiership year. Our defence was Petty May Lever.

It never needed to be changed other than personnel. 2 key defenders and the interceptor. And 2 key forwards and medium tall with a resting ruckman.

Brown standing in the square alleviates so much pressure from Roo purely by the defender he takes. Fritsch gets a third tall who he can play off if Brown is there. I struggle to understand why people can’t see it to be honest.

POINT WELL MADE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons had a number of points to make to themselves, their opponents and the VFL football world when they traveled up to the Gold Coast to take on the Southport Sharks in the 2022 Grand Final rematch at Fankhauser Reserve.

After living the glory of an almost perfect premiership, the Demons stumbled after winning the opening four games of the season and have struggled in their recent northern state sojourns - their only loss in 2022 came at the hands of the Lions in Brisbane and they were given a touch up by Gold Coast in Round 7. Last week, a team of 14 Melbourne listed players folded like a rickety card table in the final term of their match at Werribee. Suddenly, they were in fifth place with a few competitors breathing down their necks. Add some injuries and a suspension and Casey’s season was on the line.

As it was a week earlier against Werribee, the Demons were pitted against a committed team with some experienced mature bodies, desperate for a victory to keep them finals contention. This time however, the Demons maintained their composure for most of the game and they were able to do so through the agency of their mix of AFL and VFL listers. Of the former, two in particular stood out.

Josh Schache started proceedings for the visitors with the opening goal of the game in its opening minutes. He kicked his second before half time and then booted his team’s only two goals in the last including the final score late in the match that put Casey in front by a solitary point. Apart from his accuracy when up forward, Schache fought valiantly in the ruck against Southport’s man mountain, Brayden Crossley who was called in to the task after the injury to Jake Bell. Crossley was dominant in the ruck duels but Schache's contribution around the ground as well as up forward which included 15 possessions, seven marks, four tackles, and five hitouts on top of the four straight goals was crucial.

James Jordon has spent much of 2023 on the cusp at Melbourne with a number of appearances as a substitute. He was back in the midfield at Casey this week but his prolific 30 disposal display was sublime, on top of which his five clearances, and four tackles and a goal were timely given Clayton Oliver’s injury and James Harmes’ suspension ahead of the Kings Birthday blockbuster. This spectacular goal has all of the hallmarks of goal of the year.

Casey was well led by Mitch White and the experienced Matt Buntine and fueled by outstanding performances from Roan Steele (23 touches, 10 marks) and George Grey (3 goals, 16 disposals, 5 marks and 6 tackles). Two of Grey’s goals came late in the third term after the Sharks had wrested the lead for the first time in almost an hour of play, a contribution that gave the visitors an 8 point lead at the final break.

A few young Demons who are pushing hard for AFL promotion in Blake Howes (23 touches, 8 marks), Taj Woewodin (23 disposals, six tackles and three clearances) and Bailey Laurie (22 touches, six tackles) were all busy. Deakyn Smith played a strong game as the small defender while Daniel Turner, Andy Moniz-Wakefield and Ollie Sestan all had their moments. Together, they put together a fine team effort and made their points well in the Queensland sun.

With the upcoming Kings Birthday weekend, the Demons return to their home fortress for a match up against Collingwood VFL next Sunday.

Very impressive 2nd half from Grey.

Attended a number of CBs and looked 'ok'.

Pushed forward for some quality involvements and goals then a fab marking attempt that resulted in a free on the boundary late in the final quarter was very gutsy to hold up play and get us going towards 50.

Shown some very good signs in patches in a number of other games over the years but today was another level imho.

What do the Casey experts think and where are we at here in terms of getting him on our list?

Agree that there are coaching issues but basic skill and decision making processes seem to be playing a significant part in the equation too - Angus Brayshaw hitting a Baggers defender on the chest when he was 20 metres clear of opposition and with 3 D fwds clear and begging for it is illustrative of why our scoring rate has slumped. As are the simple set shot misses ( Chandler last night was sub sub par for eg)

There seems to be a lot more selfishness in the forward 50 as well.

I was stunned at Frittas snap goal when Chandler was standing all by himself in the goal square last night.

Probably for the other game thread, Brownie, but I think 'snap' is a bit harsh. He had, and took, his time, and on second and subsequent looks I reckon the angle was less, and the distance to the closing defender greater, than they first appeared.

Though 'Chin' did look somewhat less than congratulatory...

He kicked a goal that he's paid to kick, did kick & would kick every day of the week.

I would rather Fritsch take the shot than start 2nd guessing himself.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
