Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Salem....really? He was one of the players that complained to the PA when they did that brutal pre-season along with TMac a number of years ago.

Salem is one of our tougher players in actual fact. His toughness is underrated, he definitely has some mongrel.

Well to be fair if anyone had the right to complain it was probably him when he got concussed by a brick.

The more the days pass since Friday the more I think that the loss in Adelaide might just be the galvanising moment for our 23 campaign. Skipper gets beat up, your star mid goes down, the footy world starts banging their drums........BRING IT ON I SAY........Seeing what Grundy has said and just the general vibe I'm expecting this moment to be recalled when the 23 cup is ours. Some losses are better than wins and this one might just be that loss........Go Dee's, unleash hell.

I hope you're right.

We were disappointing last year (failing to capitalise on generational talent and a narrow premiership window), and a little wary of 'losses we need to have', but the truth is we're too good to not dominate, the issue is between the ears and some coaching tweaks.

What Port did required a response, but "flying the flag" is a notion from a bygone era.  All it does if give away feekicks, possible reports and definetely distracts us from what actually counts, which is winning the contested ball or applying immense pressure on them if they have it.  Leave the umpires to sort out these [censored] tactics (which they did to a certain extent), play harder within the rules and win the game.  Then those nonsense tactics will stop.

Do you know which team is the first to support team mates being unfairly dealt with? It’s the Pies, the team playing the most selfless footy in the AFL, pressuring the hardest, always running to help out team mates and with a great team first culture and of course, winning.

We were them in 2021.

That’s a shame. Because it’s the only show in the industry that actually talks tactics and not media clickbait.

Bring on that moron.

I’d love to see JVR cop a week for a late “spoil” on that hot head.

Every media [censored] was frothing at the bit for him going after Langdon.

Anyone every notice he picks on smaller players?

I'm not sure...Port have been targeting Max for a number of years now.

They were prepared to give away a few free kicks because the tactic works.

First & foremost Max needs to look after himself by taking the game on. He's a big boy.

If he goes up another level then the tactic fails, but he didn't. His game was off which ensures he will get more of the same.

As for the team, they need to up the pressure rating in these games then maybe flying the flag wouldn't be necessary.

The opposition would be more concerned with getting a kick away & hitting a target.

Well said rj. Ports pattern is target max because it worked before in 2019 and other times.  . Hinkleys predictable . Where's rod Grinter when we need him

i agree - its really the only show that talks about pure footy. They are both past players and whilst they may pick and choose what they talk about - i find their analysis and insights really useful. For example the clips that Kingy showed on our unaccountable midfield where there to see...i could always tell something wasn't right by losing clearances or the stats show up on screen that CP is -10 or just that gut feel that the team is under performing.. but could never put the finger on it.

Kingy is going after us on all of his platforms. I actually don't mind it to be honest. Most of what he has been saying is pretty much consistent with what we have all been thinking. I'm not totally 100% on the culture claims, but there is something definitely up with attitude against teams that can match it with us and not playing for each other. It takes a bit more for it to be culture. The defensive side is absolute for all to see.

The players will hear it and see it and that to me puts them on notice, which is exactly where i want them to be. Hopefully the coaching panel don't escape their fare whack as well.

Also see that Goodwin's contract is up end of 2024 and that the view is that he'd ink a contract extension without too much fuss. Is it that clear cut though? - I'm not calling for Goodwin's head (just yet), but I wouldn't rush to ink an extension until we at least finish the year I would have thought. We have 2 maybe 3 years of window left right now and if we cannot challenge this year (pass rate is a PF), then i'd be looking to change things up and that may mean some turnover in the coaching staff.

Goodwin said he'd back our midfield against butters and rozee.

He should know better and next hopefully he has a fix.

Poor coaching effort all round last week

Gawns been niggled and infringed for 2 years and we've not responded. Why start now.

Was a bad take, 1 goal the other way and they are talking about how he battled through the adversity. The niggles weren't the be all of the game.

King is very late with this analysis. Watch any game from the stands and keep one eye on Max. He's crashed a dozen times a game off the ball. Been happening for years. Great insight Kingy (NOT).

The reason his teammates do not run to him could include:

  • Max has directed them not to get involved with the crashing - save your energy for an attack on the ball
  • The crashing of Max happens 60 metres off the ball - running to protect him stuffs up the structures
  • Means there's a potential mismatch on the ground that can be exploited by our guys
  • High risk of fines, suspections and the wrath of Christian
  • We get sucked into playing the game on the oppos terms.

So thanks for absolutely nothing Kingy.

So retaliation works, does it? Like JVR giving away a goal.

I'd much rather retaliate on the scoreboard.

We didn't do that either.

Our team lacks mongrel and it is infuriating. Look at how Collingwood went after Langdon last year. Look how they responded when Daicos was targeted. We could learn a thing or two from them about mongrel and desire.

I have to agree with @Queanbeyan Demon this isn't anything new.

Its a simple, crude and brilliant bit of coaching from Hinkley. The vision you see where players are just slightly pushing him to delay him getting to marking contests is legal (apart from the obvious one paid against where the player actually held/blocked him). But I hate to say there's not much you can do to stop this at the moment apart from having someone run with Max...

This vision King brings up below of the little elbow as max is down on the ground isn't the greatest example. Not sure how many players actually see it besides Hunter who clearly remonstrates. The other mids and backs are set up in position on a player. The balls going to be thrown back in at their HF. If one of our guys leaves their man/position we're pretty stuffed especially with how well Port were winning contest and moving the ball Friday night.

In saying all that I would like to see some more grit from our guys at times throughout games. Prefer it on the ball but there are teams that inflict that intimidation without going overboard that we lack. Petty is one of few with Viney that does this consistently.

We're just not.

Having to put Petty forward to shore up our KPF stocks has only unbalanced our backline - neither Lever nor May will be AA this year. Now with Petty out we're losing at both ends - undermanned backline and forward line without a reliable KPF target.

Sorry, I should clarify.

On paper, we should dominate - killer midfield. AA backs. Kozzie. Fritter. Gawn/Grundy. But with some underwhelming game day coaching, bad luck with injuries, and arrogant Hollywood football, we're not. Aside from BBB and Petty (admittedly a decent gap), we're largely the same team who won the GF. In fact we were nearly full strength on the weekend. We had no real excuses. Can't expect to have everyone on the ground at once, for every game. Other teams do without stars.

Agree we're still missing a KPF target, but that alone should not stop us from performing. We still have enough goalscorers on the ground who should get the job done. I just think we're not playing that well, and like last year, the beat-ups against poor teams is clouding perception of where we are actually at - and that's an often lazy, uninspired, rigid brand of football that does not stack up against teams who apply pressure and play to the usual plan to beat us - and we get beaten the same way every time.

And I disagree with Petty going forward. He's integral to our backline.

So yeah, sorry, on paper and in theory we should dominate. But it's not working. And it'll take somebody to actually look at where we are, rather than the 'that's not us' or 'that's the loss we needed to have' [censored], because that continues to gloss over the real issues. We've had plenty of 'necessary losses this and last year, and not surprisingly, against the better teams who have worked us out.

Therefore, it is a coaching matter that needs correcting…play Harmes- it is as simple as that.

First Crack, 360 and On the Coach are all full of over analysis, and sensational tripe.

They make massive calls and huge generalisations each episode, typically based on footage of maybe 2 - 3 plays in an entire game.

Round 2 David King called the Cats cooked....

Watch the game with your own eyes and make up your own mind imo

When it comes to aggression and standing up for teammates the Pies are terrific and have been for as long as I can remember!

They have owned Melbourne for far to long and the Demons need to stand up for themselves as a team.

Pies have some very average players, but are playing as a team and coached to go for it no regrets, like Bazball in cricket! Markov, Cox, Noble, Lipinski are just players, pressure their weaker players and under the pump they will falter!

Port niggled hassled Gawn all night, Butters was on fire did the Demons bump him every opportunity make tackles really stick!

We have “A” grade talent but feels like we need to step it up as a team.

Petty and Sparrow both go hard and we’re missed on Friday night, but lots of players went missing.

While I’m far from giving up on the Demons this year, be very happy to see a bit more mongrel, and someone step up and own FF/CHF in partnership with JVR!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
