Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think what was more damning was our stoppage work and post clearence stuff.

Players like Oliver getting sucked into the contest and then having no accountability and respect for their opponents who simply just ran off them.

It's no wonder Rozee kicked that last goal in thr end because our mids in general paid no respect whatsoever.

All comes down to attitude and mindset.

Who knows, but you have to raise the flag.

We missed Sparrow in this regard and at the contest.

Getting sucked into the contest: i know this is an asside, but Steven May (gloating about who was in the flag 18) and Ed Langdon's (Collingwood are a one trick team) hubristic behaviour last year tarnished our team-first ethic. And it's mighty hard getting back on that pedestal.

I think Jack handed a bit back and Max wasn’t the only one copping it, it’s Hinkley’s DNA.!!!

I'm not sure...Port have been targeting Max for a number of years now.

They were prepared to give away a few free kicks because the tactic works.

First & foremost Max needs to look after himself by taking the game on. He's a big boy.

If he goes up another level then the tactic fails, but he didn't. His game was off which ensures he will get more of the same.

As for the team, they need to up the pressure rating in these games then maybe flying the flag wouldn't be necessary.

The opposition would be more concerned with getting a kick away & hitting a target.

I mentioned a few weeks back that if you go after our leaders we are vulnerable. Port did exactly that. Belt up Max and sit someone on Viney.

It’s happened before and it will happen again

It's footy... nothing new.

Everytime a team puts the "niggle" in to us....we do what...... ( insert sounds of fav  silent things )

Works a treat for oppositions. Umps turn blind eye to the [censored] treatment handed to Max.

But he is a big lad..  not enough mongrel imo.

As long as we stay the same... it all stays the same  and other Coaches will use the tactic to advantage. ( after all it's their job to win )

It’s almost like the team has been instructed not to get involved in any ‘flying the flag’ because it detracts from the next play and players getting to position if they get sucked into that type of stuff.
But there’s definitely still a time and place for it in terms of getting some mongrel and venom into the team on game day.
I love Max but I’m starting to see him flop around - almost staging for free kicks rather than holding his ground and looking to hurt the opposition or at least intimidate with more aggression.

The overall fear factor of the team has sadly and substantially waned this year.
Time to inject the mongrel back into the mindset of our players.

King has a point.

Honestly Max need to harden up and retalliate sometime himself.   He had Powell-Pepper and Butters doing most of the bumping and annoying.  Both are half his size.  If he does not react himself how are others in the team to even know it is happening?

Max tends to be right off every time this happens.

Here is a tip though Melbourne....You defend your own...Every player. Get in there and fly the flag for your captain.

Watching the game it appeared we gave them the initiative for 3 quarters.   The only time we really fired up was in the 3rd quarter when there was probably the most niggle in the game.  Starting a brawl can change momentum and get players cracking in that much harder.

I think we missed a trick by not reacting to all the niggle he received on the day...Maybe next time!

No ones in fear of playing us now... quite the opposite....see us as that cheeky win.

I agreed with most of what King said, with the exception of Steven May.
I don’t think we want him running out of position just for some push and shove.  The on ballers, who would have been directly involved in the next stoppage, should have helped him out (on numerous occasions).

It's not about retaliating it's about going harder at the next contest.

There are players that you never try and get under their skin as they only play better.

This is the leaning (Goody speak) Max needs.

You're never too old to learn.

Sometimes you need to go a little beyond the basic mechanics of the system. Not suggesting we do what Freo did a few weeks ago with Lobb but look at how Collingwood absolutely bit back when Nick Daicos was getting roughed up by the Swans.

Kingy is right. IMO this speaks to the desire / belief / toughness . We have all been here before, we know how this story ends. However, this time we have our belly's full. Its a tough mental game. Do the boys have the resilience and pride ? We will see. They know what it takes to win and that has to count for something.

In essence , it's a form of bullying. One that works a treat really.

You never lower your eyes ( head ) to a bully. You push back twice as hard lest they win the mental battle and own you.

We aren't good at all in this regard.

Some teams know how to OWN us..and its our OWN  fault.

No, and that's why it's up to Max to lift his game when he's confronted by these attacks.

If the opposition know he's only gong to play better, they will lay offf.

Unfortunately to date it's been the opposite.

His performance has suffered.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
