Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am also really happy for Sheezel. I’m Jewish and it is a massive massive deal to have a Jewish kid not only drafted into the AFL but be a genuine star. It’s really fantastic. I wonder if today is the first time two Jewish players have taken the field together in the same side?

It certainly is fantastic. The quest for total inclusivity should never stagnate. This goes quite a way towards that goal, (pun absolutely intended, this kid’s a ️)

Jackson should be texting Max to see how his knee is. Gawn did all he could to make Jackson a star and he [censored] all over him and our club. Deserves nothing.

Just a tad ridiculous, even for you Jaded

And how do you know he hasn't messaged Max to show concern for his knee? More than likely he has, I'd say

Never said he didn’t.
And if you don’t think that deciding mid season that you’re out the door, putting in no effort for half a season and then not even engaging with another WA club that held pick 2 (when all you apparently wanted was to go home) is not [censored] all over the club, then you’re a lot kinder than I am.

I guess i was referring to the whole last quarter where some were paid while others were not. The whole rule is inconsistent and unclear. This game was a good example.

I’m not talking about St Kilda winning the flag (because that’s Collingwood’s IMO) but I reckon there’s a bit of a whiff of Melbourne 2021 about them to start the season.

After a couple of years in the wilderness, the group has a collective buy in and a major emphasis on defence and keeping the opposition to insanely low scores.

Could not be more impressed considering their injury list, and have major upside in regards to returning players.

Going to be tough this year. I actually felt more optimistic last year, at least you knew where you were. Collingwood and Lions both look scary when they click. Going to need everything to go right.

Brisbane were not that good last night. We were just plain terrible. Hard to say whether we were shell shocked from Gawns injury.

Collingwood play with no fear and have a game plan that is all out attack. Question is whether they can sustain that all year long. All it takes is a single team trying something different to break them down and then all else will follow if it works.

It’s early days and declaring flag favourites right now is plain old ridiculous.

Not sure where I said any team were favorites.

I tend to categorise the teams as ‘contenders’,’serious contenders’ and ‘the rest’, and yes, they can chop and change week to week. That’s footy.

Sadly, Collingwood is currently in my mind a serious contender. I hope I am proven wrong in weeks to come.

So did I. The AFL's explanation seems to overturn that.  But since when has the actual written rules affected AFL decisions on anything.

I guess there can't be a deliberate out of bounds free kick paid until the ball has actually gone out of bounds? The time clock on the live feed showed 00:00 well before the ball went over the boundary line but the siren didn't sound until after.

Should've been paid as a deliberate out of bounds against Brayshaw with a minute and a half left on the clock.

Freo should have tried the Lever to Gawn dink kick to Darcy with fifty seconds left instead of kicking to a pack at the top of the square. Stupid decision to burn precious seconds by taking a short kick on the outer side with just thirteen seconds left.

Kudos to the Roos for not conceding even a point in that last thirty seconds but so many bad decisions from both sides in that last couple of minutes.

I looked again this morning. The game clock hit 0.00 before the ball crossed the line. The siren sounded just after the game clock hit 0.00 and the ball crossed the line.

if this happened in a granny it would be a travesty. What is the correct ruling here. I think the AFL have backed the umps in but not sure it’s the correct call.

The clock is not relevant on the Tele.  The game ends when the umpire hears the siren and signals as such.

The umpire and players all heard the siren  a split second before the ball went over the line, and clearly before the Bounday Ump signalled out of bounds. The Field Ump consequently had no option but to end the game with no further decisons needed.

The Boundary Signal initiates the 'deliberate' not just after the ball has been kicked  with intent. Ball has to cross the line to become a deliberate.

Correct decision and kudos to all officials involved.

Pity about the Nuffy commentators - Cam Mooney and Daisy Thomas - feeding into the confusion.

Stick to special comments and gambling promotion boys. It suits you more.

Huge kudos to Clarkson and Lyon though.

relying on "when i heard the siren" is not very logical

light travels much faster than sound. how anyone sitting at home on tv could tell EXACTLY when the siren went is beyond me

i believe umpires are also mic'ed up for the siren so they in fact probably hear it before the players

Freo should never have been in that position to begin with. Ffs it was their home game against a two time wooden spooner who literally hasn’t won at that venue in 198 years.

And had an armchair ride from the umps to that point. I’m actually surprised the umpire didn’t find a reason to give that free kick

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
