Simon Goodwin Presser (21/03/23)

Recommended Posts

The new season of Ted Lasso has a couple of great press conference scenes.

Watching Goody will never be the same perhaps

Interesting comments on the bump... Deserves wider discussion

“It is the third-straight March where Goodwin has said in the wake of a high-profile bumping incident that his players should eradicate bumping from their game.”

That’s very interesting.  Pretty much means that Pickett was effectively breaking a long standing team rule, or expectation might be a better word.

Goodwin clearly doesnt like pressers.

Doesnt help when that troll journo started sticking pins in him about a 2 year old BS story. Nothing to add.

He looked like he was holding his temper.

He's got a fair death stare, mastery of the sit-back, and a nice restrained 'see ya!' exhalation.

There's no question...

I asked him a question a few years ago and got the stare and close up, it is quite unnerving.

Simon Goodwin played a straight bat to the unpleasant questions.

I admire his self restraint.

I also wanted to state that Simon Goodwin is a hero of the Melbourne Football Club. He is a Premiership coach who broke our 57 year Premiership drought and for that I will be forever grateful.

Gee he's improved massively over the years.

He's more confident, ready for any question coming his way and has developed a good ability to shut down anything that obviously has negative ramifications to the club.

As an example he said they had not trained for players to bump. Kozzy in a split second decision had got it wrong. We as a group were very happy Smith was okay and as a player Kozzie is irreplaceable. So acknowledging the action as wrong, yet praising his player as a great player. Obvious yet nicely done.

His treatment of Bartlett was superb.

Goodwin looks in good early touch. Well done.

I think it was about a style of play from memory.

Did you mention the pocket lead?

The footballing community... Perhaps you start with banning the bump in junior football (16 and below)

Soccer allows for vigorous shoulder to shoulder encounters as two players vie for the ball but bumping as done in Aussie rules is not allowed

Just watched the presser snd thought exactly the same thing.

And he hasn't done it (improved) by changing his style. He's still himself.

As you say he,"s just more confident, which makes his Steele even more impressive

Chalk and cheese from say 2-3 years ago.

I 100% agree on banning the bump in junior footy. In my opinion adds nothing to the game and would potentially save hundreds (thousands?) of concussions and other injuries a season across national junior leagues.

I'm not convinced it is needed in afl either.

The two immediate changes I'd make is outlawing the rugby style spearing motion (like kozzie's hit) and jumping off the ground to bump (in any circumstances). Immediate suspension regardless of impact.

They should have made those changes in the preseason just gone.

I feel for Goody. Ever since a former someone was asked to step aside, he has had to continually deal with all the unnecessary muck just so said someone can feel better about themselves. Clearly Goody had areas to work on as a coach (he even said the game was getting the better of him) he has gone away and worked on those issues. The player’s clearly love him and play for him. That’s good enough for me.

As for this ghost that refuses to go away, they clearly are intent on getting 100% credit for delivering our 13th flag to satisfy their ego. Honestly, it would’ve been better if they had never come on board, as PJ was coming to us anyway by the way of the AFL.

As for the bump, it has its place, but it is slowly being eliminated from the game. They’ll soon prohibit tackling for its ‘potential’ to cause harm. May as well make footy a non contact sport.

From my understanding of Goodwin, he believes there is always a better option from a purely football perspective, than a bump.  Is he right?  If not, in what situation is the bump the best option to help win a game of footy?

The only thing about banning the bump: what about the magnificent bump/shepherd Kozzie laid to protect Petracca‘s goal in the granny?

It's a stretch to call that a bump I reckon.  Pickett stopped his momentum before contract, so I'd call that a block.

Second this.

If you watch the "Sound the alarm" video in the attachment, it's clear that Goody is driving the push for Luke Jackson to spend time in the ruck in the famous third quarter comeback, but after the game was letting everyone else take the credit for it.

You gotta ask the right question, Red. I’ve asked him a question on two occasions and both were met with a broad grin.

related: his all-time favourite song is “My Happiness” by Powderfinger. And his go-to on pizza night is a Hawaiian.

You’re welcome! 🤗

    GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Carlton

The Blues season is on the line and their captain and coach have been in the firing line all week. If the Dees cough this one up the media's crosshairs will do a 180 and will surely be directed at the Demons who have only won 13 games from their last 25 outings. This is a must win game for the Melbourne Football Club too.

WRITING ON THE WALL by Whispering Jack

The Narrm Football Club found a second way in the space of 12 months less a day to unexpectedly lose a home game against Walyalup on Saturday afternoon. The equivalent match of last year has been described as Melbourne’s “ground zero” of 2022 where things went wrong for the club after a long run of wins that included its 57 year drought-breaking premiership triumph. Unfortunately for the Demons, the 2023 version was a case of deja vu with the Dockers overcoming a half time deficit and runn

    CRUSHED by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons were dealt a crushing blow to their hopes of repeating last year’s premiership glory when they capitulated to the Werribee Tigers in the final term of what was for the first three quarters a riveting game of football. The Demons struck early with the opening two goals of the match but the Tigers fought back to level the scores by mid-term. From there on until the middle of the last quarter, there was never more than two goals separating the teams although the home side look
