Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cotchin has been rubbed out once and fined 11 times.  The whole process is a standing joke

Hall got to play in a GF, Dunkley the same, Cripps gets off etc etc etc

The correct term for conduct is intentional and the ball was in play (he could have tackled him) so it can only be ruled as careless. You can take that to the bank - anything else is contrary to the actual definition.

Smith kicked the ball. he could not have tackled?

ever seen Cotchin do anything like diving off feet into a bloke?

he is clever the little [censored], he does small things off the ball while in a scrap that are hard to prosecute. Kozzi needs to be smarter

Buddy’s is 4 weeks every day of the week. Except for the day his matter is heard.

The Buddy incident can help us if there was a linear effect in effect.  For instance, if Buddy gets 2 weeks then Kozzie 1? (or a fine?)

Can't see Buddy getting 4 or even 3 and the outcome with the Buddy incident was far worse than the Kozzie/Smith incident

But it's the AFL so who would know?  And which incident gets held first? (if both incidents are referred to the tribunal)

If Cotchin was just an average footballer he would have almost certainly been rubbed out at least a few times with all the incidents that he has been involved in

And 11 fines?  Shouldn't a player start copping weeks after a certain amount of fines?

Watching this one at the ground, it's always a shock to see a late bump and the optics/outrage factor probably relates to this just not being something you see much, even though the incident had zero consequences.

Re the Cripps incident - he got two at the tribunal prior to the unfathomable appeal reversal. To my eyes the Cripps incident was far worse than Kozzie's, even watching in realtime last year - he elected to jump, was always high and over the top of ah chee, used his arm to go directly at the head and never contested the ball, and succeeded in knocking ah chee out. Kozzie's in comparison was late and not in contest, but much lower on the body and was rising up into it, lower impact, zero consequences for the opponent. He will probably get at least as many weeks as Cripps' original 2 weeks because that is what the afl does, but comparing the two it is hard to fathom how that could be the case for mine.

Kozzie often straddles the line with late bumps and has had countless downfield frees against for bumps, usually to the side and pretty innocuous. The front-on nature of this one was rough and he will hopefully tighten up and pick his spots as his pressure game is good enough to include bruising bumps in more in-play circumstances. He maintained great pressure the rest of the game while reining it back in.

Pickett's was worse than Buddy's, Pickett left the ground and hit Smith after he had disposed of the ball. Buddy was following the ball and ran through Collins on his way. Don't think Franklin gets a suspension.

Of course Frankenstein won’t get more than one week maximum even though he KOd his opponent.
Kozzie will get multiple just because it is a bad look.

Jon Ralph thinks Buddy will get one week as Collins passed some test today. He then went on to say Pickett will get multiple weeks. Personally, I have no idea what to expect, and it appears the AFL and anyone else associated with them is in the same boat.

That's the point I'm making ... nothing is by the book so we don't know what to expect

Where it's different to the umpiring of the sport (with all the grey areas and split-second decisions being made) the AFL has all the time in the world to get consistent outcomes via the MRO & Tribunal

But they don't and the name players are protected species (a lot of the time)

What I'm hoping for is that Kozzie falls into the above category (protected species)

It's the AFL's version of fairness (not) And in the dog-eat-dog world of competitive sport, you push the envelope but don't cross the line

Agree DC .

Cozzy didn’t kill anyone , apologised immediately,no injury sustained at all. It was silly for sure ,but some on here want the death penalty or link to concussion matters.

A week tops

There is perhaps a bit more complexity to the MRO grading than I had first though.

Was it careless or intentional? Most of the time these are graded careless but Pickett leaves the ground - what else was he intending to do? Upgrading to intentional will add a week to his suspension.

Severity should be medium - it was actually "low" but the Guidelines don't just allow the MRO to upgrade it to medium, they pretty much mandate it given the potential for severe injury.

But then was it high contact or not? It's almost implicit that he didn't contact Smith's head because if he did, Smith would have been far worse off than he actually was. So was it just shoulder to shoulder/chest, and if so is that "high" or is that "body"?

If he gets intentional, medium and high, that's two weeks. If it's careless, medium and body, it's a fine. So IMO it's anything from a fine to two weeks. For him to get three weeks, it has to be intentional, high and high, but I don't think the MRO can give it high impact given Smith appears to have walked away unscathed.

Great summary. Unlucky timing (again it feels for this MFC supporter) with the current concussion spotlight but I’ve advocated for more emphasis to be on the act rather than the outcome for a long time.  I think 1 or 2 is a fair result, and I think any more would be a grossly unfair distortion of the grading matrix.  He needs to bump way more horizontal than in the upward trajectory this had.

Cornes running around the studio like a lunatic in a costume. Loves game by Horne Francis.

Sickening stuff.

I hope this means Cornes knows Kozzy isn’t going anywhere. If not, I hope Kozzy is made aware how much Powers biggest fan was out to get him and he tells them to stick the offer up their [censored].

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
