Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I love petty but if you were judging the game on form not name, he goes out for may. Not Tomlinson. He was exceptional last night.

What are you talking about? Kept Naughton to 1 goal. Naughton is an absolute gun.
Tomlinson played on Lobb who is borderline a potato (still has a fantastic game!)

The Dogs skyscraper fwd line had 50 i50s and they kicked 9 goals

Their 4 talls kicked 2 goals.

Your judgement is terrible Muriel

Tommo has dispelled the doubts about whether he was still AFL standard. But he is still behind Petty unless Harry has a serious loss of form. Great to know Tommo can step in when required but he isn't first choice.

I think Petty was lucky Naughton can’t kick. But to be honest I don’t think any defender can go with Naugton in the air. He’s hands and timing are ridiculous

Yes Naughton missed a couple but as you said, it’s impossible to stop someone who can take the sort of aerial marks he can. He didn’t let Naughton get on the lead at all. He is only 23 which I think people forget. Naughton is also 23 but has played twice as many games as Petty.

Kozzie will miss - no way should any footballer not miss at least 2 weeks for that.

Salem back via Casey

May & Fritsch unlikely.

Viney will come in for Kozzie.

I am stunned that some people are casting doubts over Petty. He is one of the first I would put in my side

We won't be winning another flag IF we're picking players on reputation and not form.

Let's be clear, I'm not saying Petty deserves to be dropped, I'm saying the next week or two should be the selection criteria for who May replaces.

Good grief we just beat a potential top 4 side by 8 goals and people want multi changes. Now matter how good a team is there will be members who have average games. The only changes IMO will be Kossie out if suspended and perhaps Viney back in.

I have said it through the pre season I am out on my own on Demonland with my views on Hunter and he did nothing last night to convince me he should be playing in front of some of our young players or even Harmes on last nights form. And if Salem is fit I am definitely playing him in front of Hunter, just my thoughts.

I don’t expect Hunter to be dropped but I would.

I have absolutely no idea how or why you hold this view.

Hunter is a proper wing, allows us to spread the field and to not rely on Langdon, plus he’s a strong two-way runner, a very good kick, and a smart read of the play. He’s a critical addition to the side and played his role well last night.

Tomlinson was excellent. I hope he's given another week and potentially more if form permitting. Am I crazy in thinking Petty isn't an automatic lock, if he gets beaten next week and May is ready to return v Sydney? I know some, even me, have pencilled him in as a future AA Backman, but that doesn't exactly mean his spot is an absolute lock, if others 'below' are performing. It's easy to forget he's still 23* and isn't immune to a dip in form.

Yes, you are probably alone. Petty is not at all close to being dropped.

However, with Tomlinson playing well, the broader point that there is selection pressure on all players is valid.

Just my opinion that we have others in front of him.

More than happy to eat my words on Hunter.

Who are the players you think are ahead of Hunter for that wing and why?

The only reason we're talking about dropping players after that win is because of the quality coming back. May, Fritsch and Viney are automatic inclusions. Salem is too unless it's thought he needs a run in the VFL first. Nobody wants to drop anyone after last night's win.

naughton is the best tall forward in the competition imo - his reading of the play and ability to take pack marks is second to none

fortunately, he's not the greatest kick in the world

our tall triumvirate of lever, petty, tomlinson worked very well together

I'd love him at Melb, Choco could teach him to kick.

You would think that without Kozzy we really need Fritsch goal kicking magic. It would be hard to defeat the Lions without Kozzy and Fritta (combined for almost a 100 goals last year!!!)

Kozzie being rubbed out has no bearing on Fritta’s inclusion in the side for round 2, which is likely what many will think. Even with Kozzie out, if Fritta is anything less than 100% he simply wouldn’t be playing.

I mentioned this before but Fritta was *sooooo close to being in the side last night.

Harmes is the real worry for me to be honest.

He started the game straight into the guts but was barely sighted at times.

With Viney out and given the opportunity for more midfield minutes he only finished with 15 disposals. Seemed to fumble a lot last night and had little influence around the contests.

When Viney is fit and ready to then he comes straight back in. I think Harmes is most vulnerable here to lose his spot to him.

Harmes kept The Bont very quiet, he did it very quietly

Suprised you didn’t notice that

Lol he barely had a hard tag on him mate.

I watched the full replay this afternoon and followed Bonts movement around stoppages. There were times Harmes stood near bont and that was it. Not even a hard arm across him or anything.

If anything Harmes probably spent more time on Libba and Treloar then he actually did on Bont. There was a CLEAR focus that we weren't doing a hard tag on him and it was us simply backing our midfield system over theirs which proved success.

Hatmes role was purely to fill in for Viney and provide extra grunt around stoppages.

Watch the actual game again.

I will happily watch the game again

Libba Treloar and the Bont were all fairly quiet in the 2nd Half

IF Frittata is 100% fit he should come in for Kozzie

IF Viney has recovered fully in for Laurie

IF May 99% fit give him another week … even if 100% keep him back for Buddy

IF Salem ready he will need a week, or two, at Casey

Libba had 18 disposals and a goal in the 2nd half with 11 coming in the 3rd quarter. That's not quiet by any standard...

Treloar had 16 disposals and a goal in the 2nd half with 11 also coming in the 3rd.

Bont was definitely the quite of the two but that had nothing to do with Harmes as there wasn't a hard tag on him.

Not sure entirely sure what exactly is 'quiet' in your books, but Treloar and Libba were still going fairly hard in the 2nd half.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
