Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Goodwin 'confident' all four (May, Fritsch, Viney, Salem) will be available next week, as mentioned in his post game presser

That could just be coach speech. He was confident some would play this week too.

Having been to training last week I reckon Viney will play. He didn’t train with the main group but was doing agility work with with a trainer before training without any strapping on the knee and looked to be moving very well.

Salem trained with the 2nds. Theoretically he could play but they may bring him back through Casey.

Fritsch didn’t train at all and was just having shots on goal.

Given Kozzy will be out we need Frisch to fill that scoring void. Given he didn’t train last week I have no idea whether his foot is ready. Perhaps they were just keeping the load off for another week and that’s why he didn’t train.

I can’t see May being ready this week based on his slight limp. Given his age I think they may be conservative with him. He was kicking the ball at training off one step and had no strapping on the calf but running at match level pace is a different story. Thomo played well enough not to rush him but there are massive match ups in the next 2 weeks.

Sparrow too. It’s odd being judgemental for a team that started like that but that’s selection with 4 of our best 8 players out.

I left Sparrow out because right now I see his role coming off the bench and just giving guys like Oliver and Petracca a breather. I know what you mean but.....

I've accepted that reality Sparrow could turn out to be a Brad Sewell type player who'll be a good ordinary foot soldier that'll carve out a solid 150 game career.

No chance we rush all 4 guys back in. Tomlinson played well and deserves another crack while May gets 10000% fit. If May blows a calf you can kiss our season goodbye.

Likewise I think Salem goes through the VFL to get some touch as he’s missed a lot of pre season.

Lets assume at this time that Koz gets off and as per presser all of May, Fritter, Salem, Viney are available for selection. I would still only select Fritter and give May and Viney another training block ready for round 3. Salem I think needs to find touch in the VFL first. He is great when cherry ripe and in touch but Bowey, Rivers and McVee all deserve to maintain spots until he can show that.

Assuming the above Fritsch in for Laurie only change. Melksham as sub again.

I think if Koz out more likelihood we make two changes and try and replace his midfield minutes and hardness with Viney straight up.

May won't play next week.

Agree, would rather delay his and others return by and have him / them 100% fit when he / they are back.

Upside we have plenty of depth, gives these guys exposure and experience on the big stage. Let’s utilise our squad’s strength.

It’s going to be a long season…. we want all our key players cherry ripe come September. (exact opposite to last year)

Daniher and Hipwood didn't look too flash yesterday so no need to rush May back. Give him all the time he needs.

Brisbane were slow and ponderous yesterday. we'll carve them up. if Salem ready I'd give him some gametime.

Viney should come if fit. Doubt Fritsch is ready. And given its a foot injury lets be cautious.

If the medical/conditioning/training staff say Viney, Fritsch and May are 100% fit  they must be selected.

Midfield bull and inspiration, best goal kicker, top defender - how do you not play them?

If Kozzie gets a holiday, there are 4 changes to a side that had a big win.

It's rather different to the dark old days!

Fritsch (if fit)for Laurie, he’s not up to it yet, couldn’t understand how he played in front of others

Viney (if fit) for Kozzie (1-2 weeks)

May (if fit) for Thommo unlucky

Salem (if fit) or JJ for Hunter (I’m with you ANG13) not convinced with Hunter yet

We just won’t make 4 unforced changes. We never have.
Goodwin seems hell bent on not repeating the mistakes of last year and grinding our best players into the ground. We have to be fit come finals. No point finishing second and bombing out in straight sets again because half our squad can’t get out of bed, let alone play 120 minutes of finals intensity footy.
It is early in the season and we have depth and plenty of kids desperate to play. None of the debutants disgraced themselves yesterday and both Chandler and Tomlinson had wonderful games. No point rushing 4 underdone players in for round 2. If it’s a final, sure, but it’s round 2.

Out: Pickett, Laurie

In: Viney, Fritsch

We will smack Brisbane, They got us when it mattered last year but we are streets ahead of them playing fully fit.  It'll take about 3 minutes to get back in their heads and then it's all over. They've got a deep, dark chasm to cross to get to our side and that won't happen anytime soon. Personally I was worried about last night with our outs but jeepers, we're even better than I thought and that's saying something! I just want to beat the Pies, that and the Premiership, that's all I want. The rest is just fluff.

I don't see them as "unforced" changes Jaded.

They are three of our best and would have played Saturday night if fitness allowed. As I said above though, 100% is the key.

Tomlinson was excellent. I hope he's given another week and potentially more if form permitting. Am I crazy in thinking Petty isn't an automatic lock, if he gets beaten next week and May is ready to return v Sydney? I know some, even me, have pencilled him in as a future AA Backman, but that doesn't exactly mean his spot is an absolute lock, if others 'below' are performing. It's easy to forget he's still 23* and isn't immune to a dip in form.

You’d imagine Brisbane will be fired up after their Round 1 shocker. Big game.

Pickett will miss. He has to. Maybe Melksham takes his spot?

Well yes, but I’d also imagined they’d be fired up yesterday after last years preliminary embarrassment. Lions defenders have always been a liability over the past few years, their fwds have annihilated weaker teams but often struggled against top 4 sides, but their midfield has always been solid. Yesterday they were carved up the middle largely by a couple of kids.

I have said it through the pre season I am out on my own on Demonland with my views on Hunter and he did nothing last night to convince me he should be playing in front of some of our young players or even Harmes on last nights form. And if Salem is fit I am definitely playing him in front of Hunter, just my thoughts.

I don’t expect Hunter to be dropped but I would.

Awful call. What are you basing his “nothing” game on? only having 12 disposals? Langdon had 14.. should we drop him also? .. Hunters 12 touches were damaging. 3 score involvements, 75% efficiency & i saw him on numerous occasions do the 1 percenters. And considering how dominant his preseason was, he’s only going to get better. Not sure why the anti hunter sentiment.. But you’ll eat your words in no time.

Just my opinion that we have others in front of him.

More than happy to eat my words on Hunter.

Confirmed crazy

Petty is a lock in the starting 18 and is May’s heir to the throne

Some think he is a star-to-be, personally, I don’t see it. Sewell would be a good comparison.

I don't see it either. To be honest he's been underwhelming for me since the 2021 season.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
