Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Music after goals

I seem to recall when this issue was in the media last year, no-one wanted to own the decision as to who decided that music was a good idea. I think the AFL said it was the Ground Manager (ie, the MCC) and the Ground Manager said they had outsourced the match day ground management to an outside company. In short, no-one likes it and no-one wanted to own up to authorising it.  Nothing's changed - it's still a lousy idea.

As an aside, the AFL has allowed breaks between goals to extend from 30 seconds to about 40-45 seconds, presumably to satisfy Channel 7 so it can run ads and replays of the goal. I wouldn't mind bringing the break back to 30 seconds. After all, everyone seems to be saying that games go too long and if a game has, say, 27 goals, that's an additional 6.75 minutes tacked on for no good reason.

LDC you are suggesting the impossible. The only change to the time between goals and the restart will see it lengthen.  The broadcast media runs the game now. The AFL gave up the pretense that they run the game some years ago. What the media wants they get with every new broadcast agreement they give more money for more control.

Correct Ernest.  It's a Nick name. The Demons is our emblem.

I can't quite understand what's being debated here. We are the Melbourne Football Club, also known as the Demons and the Dees, just like Collingwood are the Magpies and the Pies, Essendon are the Bombers and the Dons and St Kilda are irrelevant.

Totally agree, the decision is wether or not the Demons is a "Nick name" or not.

Can we do away with that hells Bells pre grand old flag song while we're at it? Doesn't fit the vibe at all and the transition into our song sounds jarring. And in that moment i miss the 90s 😂

Seems more like the entrance music for the Undertaker wrestler

Sorry (To Jonesy I guess?)

Can’t imagine there’d be many songs that do transition smoothly into our song.

True fact ... When I see someone wearing a Demons cap or other garment (not at the footy) I usually say "go Dees" rather than "morning", "g'day" etc to that person. It is invariably met with a good response.

I try to say Demons more just to level it up a bit lately.

That's a great idea we should have Undertaker's theme!

I’m not going to buck the trend here. I absolutely loathe the songs after goals. But I’ll go a step further and say that I believe they’re actually a serious problem.

During the prelim last year, one thing I found bewildering was how quiet the Demons fans were throughout the match. I was firmly of the opinion that the PA-spew after each goal was sapping the onus out of the supporters to make the required noise, which gives the players that extra charge. Once all the music/SFX malarkey died down, it just left a strangely muted crowd who’s literal thunder had been stolen. From a purely-tactical position, it’s a disadvantage, and a f****ng annoying one at that.

While on the topic, the club has persisted using the intro to “Enter Sandman” while they players are warming up. It just plays on a loop. Bit lame, but whatever, it’s fine. Except the freakin’ loop sounds like it was cut by somebody who works in the marketing department. Every eight bars it just jarringly-lurches back to the start again on the completely-wrong beat.

It does my head in. @WalkingCivilWarYou might have the connections to get this message through, but I’ll happily provide the club with a better version of this if they want it. Nobody will probably care but me, but it’ll be a massive personal victory.

Okay, I've crunched the numbers. 99.9% of followers detest the music after a goal. The only vote in favour was the mother of the bloke that pushes the play button.

So why in hell does the AFL persist? It just doesn't make sense.

Because they do it in the USA so therefore it must be right.

The only time the AFL will listen to the fans is when fans actually stop going to the footy because of all this stuff. We can complain all we want about music, umps, MRO but it's fruitless. Whilst people flock to games and produce cash this isn't stopping anytime soon. You want to be heard, don't go or don't pay up...hit them where it hurts. We know people won't stop going though.

You have just answered your own question.  So many thing they do just don’t make sense ( but they do make dollars ).

I can and certainly will bring it up with our awesome triumvirate. Not sure anything will be achieved, but it’s definitely worth the effort to pursue it.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
