Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years

Mate, no one has ever said that?? Nor did I say any journalist were quoted as saying so.. All that is being said is the strong Port Adelaide interest in Pickett and not just from Cornes.

Here's a few snippets.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2022/09/16/thats-where-the-odds-say-he-will-be-edmund-gives-his-verdict-on-picketts/

SEN’s Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund doesn’t think Port Adelaide will be successful in its pursuit of Kysaiah Pickett.

Edmund broke the news earlier this week that Port was exploring the possibility of trading for Pickett over the upcoming trade period.

“Port are trying, absolutely trying,” Edmund said on SEN's The Picks.

“I think he’ll stay at Melbourne (though), I think, that’s where the odds say he will be in because he’s contracted for one more year and I can't in any way, shape or form see Melbourne wanting him to go and sanctioning a trade.

“I think it would take something significant, Kozzie would have to put in a trade request and at this stage, that is not happening,” Edmund continued.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2022/09/20/cashed-up-power-to-continue-pickett-pursuit-after-disappointing-dunkley-snub/

Port Adelaide will continue to aggressively pursue Melbourne’s Kysaiah Pickett despite his contract status according to SEN’s Michelangelo Rucci.

While reports have suggested that Pickett is excited about his Melbourne future, Rucci says that they’ll continue to ask the question in hopes that the small forward requests a trade this off-season

Port’s definitely there, they’re asking the question quite often,” Rucci said on SEN SA Breakfast.

Kysaiah is contracted at Melbourne next year, not that contracts mean much at this time of year.

“The real question there is, how much does Kysaiah want to accept what Port Adelaide put in front of him?

“Then it’d be going to Melbourne and saying, ‘Well, I want to go home’.

“Port might be in for the long game, but if you don’t ask, you’ll never get anywhere.

“They’re definitely keen to get Kysaiah Pickett to Alberton, there’s no doubt about that at all.”

Thanks - I hadn't seen anything from Rucci or Edmund that wasn't purely linked to Cornes.

There are two stories here though, sort of. One is that Pickett doesn't like Melbourne (the city). The other is that Port is interested. There's no surprise about the latter, as you've said. But it's the other story I'm more interested in - whether there's any truth to the rumour that Kozzie doesn't love living here.

Then we play hard and say that Kozzie is also a required player.

While he is out of contract, I do think we should play hard on this one and force a suitable trade. (More suitable than the Jackson trade.)

1. Our recruitment team identified he was a great talent.

2. We gave up a lot to get the draft pick which we used on Kozzie.

3. Our coaching and development staff have developed him exceptionally.

4. We have provided an excellent environment and given him everything we can to make him stay.

There is no way we should accept a deal that isn't equal to his value. We will need to make noise to the AFL to mediate a better deal if necessary.

If Kozzie goes, the equation is quite simple. We will demand Zak Butters.

Butters is from Victoria.

The club will have a plan to quietly connect-attract-convince Port players they see as suitable in the event of Kossie requesting a trade.

I’m sure they would’ve quietly tried something similar with Young/Brayshaw/Serong last year but couldn’t convince any of them to request a trade.

Best thing we can hope for is a shabby year for Port and instability at Alberton!

So what do you reckon? Stay or leave?

This could be an all day brainbuster, but I need to get back to work.

If the decision is purely based on football, he should stay.... However players tend to be too complex individuals these days so ... Who knows???

Add to that the fact that the AFL draft system is a joke (see JHF last season)🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Put simply, LJ’s manager was never negotiating with us to stay and apparently Kozzie’s is. That is a big difference and probably what leads to some confidence from the club he will stay.

Kosi is a completely different person to Jackson. We need to stop lumping these two together.

Kosi also has, as previously mentioned, a serious girlfriend who resides in Melbourne and family spread across two states.

He has had a vastly different upbringing to Jackson, and just because Melbourne the city isn't his cup of tea, does not mean he isn't willing to deal with it for the sake of playing footy for a club he loves, where he sees long term success and has great friendships.

If he does choose to leave, I am sure the club already has contingency plans.

Jackson was never serious about staying with us long term. It was obvious from the second he only extended his contract for one year. Kosi has already previously extended his contract and if his management is in talks with us it means Kosi is definitely open to staying.

This whole thing might just be a clever ploy to up his contract value. Maybe he thinks he will have a phenomenal year in the midfield and earn himself a few more dollars/years.

Not sure if you are referring to me in the “lumping together comment “ but my post is more to deal with the discussions with Managers, or lack thereof, probably indicating different outcomes.

Are both of these statements known/facts or assumptions?

The former is known fact and the latter also appears known fact, given Richardson’s comment that negotiations with Kozzie’s manager are progressing well.

Relax 'layzie.🙃

No amount of 'brainbusting' will give the answer until he signs or after we play our last game.  Either is many many months away.

Pay kozzie whatever he wants.

Yes, he really is that good and worth it alone on marketing for our junior supporters.

Never have I had such an emotional attachment to a player since Liam Jurrah and Jeff Farmer.

I was disappointed that Jackson left, but devastated is the word I would use if Kozzy left.

He is such a special player and brings so much joy watching him play.

Pickett would also be twice the loss Jackson was.

Not because I don't think Jackson will go on to have a wonderful career, but because Pickett is a special player who holds a lot of space in the heart of Melbourne fans.

Losing him would be akin to when we lost Farmer, who was a cult figure amongst Dees fans.

Short of losing Oliver or Trac, which thankfully is nothing we have to worry about for 7 more years, I can't think of another player I would be sadder to see go... maybe Fritta.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
