Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As the dust settles on another tumultuous trade & draft period, our attention turns to our Western enemies (no, not the dogs) after the departure of Luke Jackson

Currently owning Fremantles 2023 first & second round picks, expect an update every Dokka loss, hamstring injury and noteworthy Jacko moment.

Based on 2022 standings, we would own Fremantle's picks 13 & 32

IN: Jefferson, 2023 R1, 2023 R2
OUT: Jackson, Knobel, Wagner

Let's hope for a top 5 pick next year (theirs) and ours the last pick in the first round.

Should give us a good spread.

More Fyfe injuries, Lobb out, Tabener the most subbed out player, their key forward - a very good defence, also held together by the glue of no injuries to their brittle Pierce. Undersized midfield with Mundy gone.

These factors, and the unlearnt lesson that you 'can't just turn up and expect it the next year' should all form a perfect storm that nets us a top 10 pick, hopefully.

Looking at their ins and outs, that is not a given.

Lobb is a big loss, as is Mundy and Acres had his best season in 2022 as did Logue. Tucker was used in 14 games also.

It will be very interesting to see how they go in 2023.

No chance of a top 5 pick imo but Im thinking they’ll be between 6-10 on the ladder but I’ll definitely be cheering against them.

Biggest factor imo is that their draw will be a lot harder and like us post our premiership year, oppo will be well prepared for how they like to play.

That coupled with the fact that they've lost some quality and experience in important positions.

Agree with others that I reckon they'll slide, but not too far if injuries don't strike hard.

6-10 I'm hoping.

Remember our 2019 year...would have been no chance of that happening to us either.

We finished 2nd last...

Not saying it will happen by any stretch but recent history shows it's a possibility.

Imagine finishing in the bottom 5 having given away  your top end picks.

At least we were able to top up and go again.

so should we

time will tell

Maybe but we were tipped to contend in 2019 too. Hopefully they have a down year before rebounding like a few teams before them (us 2019, Richmond 2016, Geelong 2006)

They are potentially Top 4 , their mids will get better and I think Fyfe will play mostly as a forward. Their season depends on their key defenders staying fit, they are very light on down back, if Ryan and Pearce go down with no Logue to come in they could be in trouble

Fremantle supporters aren’t as mentally disturbed as Eagles supporters but by gosh, the pressure on Jackson to perform given we have their first two picks next year will be immense.

If Freo fail, Jackson will enemy No.1 for the purple twits.

Agee! This is the thing with the Grimaces. They have massive upside and downsides. Apart from Fyfe and Taberner, they were a healthy bunch. Mundy and Lobb are big loses. Lobb is middle of the road at best which is indicative….

Oppositions worked out the Grimaces toward the back end of the year and they fell off a little. But, the midfield is young and full of potential. They possibility fell off due to age and experience and will be better off next year.

They lost a lot thru trades and got minimal return IMO. Jako is not a Fyfe, Oliver, Pendlebury, Hawkins or any where near the footballer who provides maximum output. The pressure is on him now.  But, he may provide as he has the talent and the ability. At 21 yrs, I doubt it.

lots of arguments for a top 6 finish, and/or a bottom 6 finish. Next year is side show I’ll watch with interest… I hope like hell they fall off and the weaknesses show up big time. I think they are a few years off the big dance and need to fill big holes.

The Jako trade may be their big downfall as they need to recruit/trade and offer no trade or recruiting value.

Speaking of defenders 'Pennant'...do you have a view on Jed Adams?

I know it's not the right thread but seeing as you're here....

What I like is that if Fremantle do well next season, that's fine, we're okay, all is as expected.

But on the other hand, there's a real shot at the kind of draft booster that nudges 'very good' list into 'terrifying'.

I'm trying to feel a little sorry for having such negative attitudes to another club, but really... nah. Bring on Failmanlte!

We can always hope! Maybe they get a bunch of injuries. But with Brayshaw, serong, Young, Cox, Ryan, Brodie, O’Driscoll etc they are on the the up. Add Jackson and O’Meara and I can’t see them being outside the top 6

O'Meara is cooked. Won't add much Value to their team.

At the same time, what we achieved this year in terms of the draft and associated recruiting through the wisdom and criticality of JT has been extremely satisfying - particularly since we did not venture into the top 10 picks (allegedly top 10 - some I would not regard as the same high quality of what we managed to occupy on a new dotted line). So, for 2023, there most probably is no real need to sniff the air for what are regarded as 'the best'. Provided we can now progress (as a Club) to a new game plan/s or alternatives in our 'systems' to benefit the whole team, we are responsible to:

* develop our new players with greater intensity than we have in the past

* extend the skills and knowledges required for our whole team to perform more effectively and successfully as a singular but potent unit

* provide experiential opportunities (not just one or two) for our young guns with deepening assistance from our terrific, more experienced players and mentors

* be prepared to quickly respond to/tackle or appeal for explanation - at/from the senior levels of the Club - the AFL and umpire management  at any and every suggestion of disadvantage, disregard or unfavourable circumstance as these impact the playing group, the Club and its administration quite negatively, and concurrently contaminate the ideals of even playing fields upon which our AFL game depends. Bias and advantage are far too apparent across the last two decades '...up which we should not put!' (To quote from the entertaining Captain Blood.)

Freo will go backwards. To make consistent top 4, you need consistent goal kickers. They just lost their highest with 36.  Unless they find someone to kick 50+ theyll be no better than this year and will fall back to the pack with a harder draw.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
