Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Strange that they were looking at Ginger Baker given their surplus of mids.

They lost Dunkley and Hunter, they wouldn’t have looked at Oscar last year, which is the time period we were talking about.

Ah I never mentioned Bailey Smith?

The first sentence of your second paragraph essentially confirms what I said he needs to do to get a game

BTW it's not Hunter's to lose its Hunters to win - he is no walk up start without doing a great deal right and sustaining it

I know you didn’t mention Bailey Smith, you just said that the bulldog’s wingers were average and you were worried about Hunter as a result. I was pointing out they have close to the best winger in the game, that two excellent mids(including the eventual B&F) and a number of strong role players pushed him out. I was disagreeing with the idea that the dogs had average wings last year. With the exception of Langdon most of the mids you mentioned and definitely the mids you didn’t mention, would’ve been playing on our wing.
We picked Hunter up to play, it’s his spot right now, that’s why he came across and what we pitched him. I’m not a big fan either but he’s an upgrade on what we had. Sure he needs to earn it, every AFL player does, and I hope Woey and Howes go past him, but right now, he’s playing wing round one.

See the problem here?

Hasn't earned anything yet I'd suggest

Seriously look on the club website report on training today, the first pic is a bulked up Sparrow. He has the guns out and looks imposing. I suspect he has spent a bit of time in the gym and will be playing more of a bull in the midfield role

Bevo began pushing Hunter out two seasons ago when he plonked him in a forward pocket for much of the year (God knows why)

He'll be a great winger for us

Hopefully our two ex Bulldogs will relish being away from weirdo Bevo.

Maybe - That works if Hunter is playing his role well

He was dropped from a team that is inferior (IMO) last season even though the Bulldogs had pretty average wingers eg: Roarke Smith, McLean, Williams etc.

If he gets really fit and does the team things, he may be a starter otherwise he is heading for Casey IMO

I am not so negative re Hunter. He had issues with the Coach at WO and feel a fresh start and a will to play top senior footy hopefully will revitalise him.

Going to be a hard act to contain,  young Sparrow. Great future at the Dees in my opinion. Did someone say 'Little Ron'?

I'm banking on Lachie for a stellar season in the red and blue.  He knows he didn't change Clubs to play at Casey.

Nothing  but the members stand side wing passing to our forwards snd linking with our backs is acceptable.

Tough enduring and on the job all day needs to Be his mantra and a finish somewhere in the top 10 of the B and F for Lachie.

No Coach either issues Lachie starts with a blank canvas!

Yikes. Average! Bailey Smith is close to the best winger in the competition at his best, I’d have him on our list in a heartbeat! The dogs had the problem of too many quality mids and had Treloar, Dunkley along with Roarke Smith (who is decent) McLean, Williams all rotating on the wing, that pushed Hunter out, not a lack of quality wingers, an oversupply.
The reality is our competition for wing spots is much less than the dogs. Brayshaw and Jordon both did incredible jobs but aren’t natural wingers, Oscar Baker didn’t come on, Woey and Howes were too young last year and will still be developing.

Hunter should be aiming to walk onto our second wing if he brings quality skills, application and effort. I’d have Woey a sneaky chance to take Hunter’s spot if he wavers as I really rate his improvement and if he continues his trajectory he’ll be pushing hard. But it’s Hunters to lose atm. The question is what we do with Brayshaw, Jordon, Sparrow, Harmes, Bowey, Salem not all of them will play and while a few of them will be walk up starts I think there’ll be some different roles for them this year.

Nice problems to have😂

Some really great photos there.  The Bowey kick and Viney mark with the terrace houses in the background are both superb. They capture the exact moment in precise focus.

Hope you are right - at his best he would make us a better team and make life much easier for our forwards

Hunter is a gut running freak. Suits us defensively as much moving forward. His disposals are not that damaging. Just like Langdon before he came to us, disposal was the problem. Hopefully the coaches can replicate Langdon with Hunter and let him improve this area.

I think Hunter compliments our game plan, Langdon and will give opposition headaches as they can’t tag both wings.

Two genuine wingers… Bring it on.

Dunstan isn’t a premium player, BF or filling a need. He was always back up to a top 4 midfield. Hunter will provide a need if he wants it enough.

Hunter is no lock. His form has been trending downward, he has behavioural issues, and has lost a step. He gets talked up far too much around here lately. I understand that he would be very handy as a needs fit if he recaptured his better form, but there is little to no evidence of that happening based on 2022.

His ability to kick accurately inside 50 to the advantage of forwards is his biggest asset to us IMO

Pencil in more goals to Fritsch in particular solely because of this

Expect Jordon to get better too and not want to lose his spot again. Both will be vying for that role in the 22

Hunter has been a higher calibre player for most of his career, and may be better suited to our side. I highly doubt Dunstan thought he'd slot into a premiership team as a regular with Clarry, Viney and Trac as inside mids

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
