Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Nice mix of imperial and metric measures. Reminds me of US gas station pricing where they weirdly mix decimals and fractions.

Gas prices grow along with inflation as this sign at a gas station shows in San Diego

Height check (as long as Matthew isn’t standing on a box or Brodie isn’t crouching).

Brodie Grundy is very quickly becoming one of my favourites without even playing a game. Seems a ripper bloke and the way Bowser talks about his training and athleticism is incredibly exciting.
Also, yep, Matt is not short, Brodie appears to be leaning over slightly, but Matt is more than big enough.

Matthew Jefferson

Very similar

That's interesting.  In the earlier reports he was shown as slightly shorter and only 79kgs.  Must be growing and filling out

I think he’s yet another reason to get excited about 2023 and beyond. Our player development now is terrific with players being given plenty of time at Casey to fill out and strengthen and learn the game. Looking at the training pictures of JVR and you can see that he has now become an adult.  I think Jefferson will be the same. I love his one grab marking, and with time, there is every reason to think he will be a great pick up.

In the current environment at the MFC we no longer throw the younger immature players to the wolves al la Jack Watts who probably was scared for his football career after the 1st match, even Roos stated he never would have allowed Jack to play in the Queens Birthday match but given him more time to develop.

First welcome to Matthew.

Did I misunderstand JT in the video? He seemed to suggest if we had traded up it would have been to get Jefferson. If so they must really rate him highly.

A funny thing judging  height in metric. As an old impérial person I am ok with all things metric except people's height. 195 means little to me however 6'5 gives me  an exact idea of his height.

Not that it’s for any comparison, but JVR managed 36 goals in his maiden (flag winning) VFL season. I would expect a very competitive Casey to provide similar supply next year. No weed and no Mitch brown.

given jeffers is labelled a finisher, what’s a good pass mark goal wise for a solid vfl season?

Very hard to weigh up the supply to JVR given Casey had a lot of entries but also a lot of targets. 36 goals in 18 games was a great results.

Jefferson isn’t as physically ready but should play more as a full forward and with less mature competition for targets.

Either way, set the bar at about 1.5 goals a game and hope he clears it.

15 for a skinny kid in his first year. JVR looked way more developed in the body at this time last year.

I wouldn’t put a limit on him but this year JVR had Mitch Brown and Weid sharing the forward line with him, I hope that we target another ruck/forward to share the load up forward with MJ at Casey.!!

It's no secret that our team & gamestyle is built around competitors & toughness - players who will win 1v1s, punch above their weight (so to speak), and bring 2nd/3rd efforts. We're not a beautifully skilled team, our gameplan isnt attractive or free flowing. We're down & dirty. We win contests. This is why we wanted to trade up for Humphrey & had George in mind - brutes who play with authority & power. These are typical JT picks - Sparrow, Jordan, Bedford, etc. - none were the most polished or skilled players but they never die wondering. This is his MO & is his philosophy on how AFL footy should be played.

From what we know Jefferson goes a little against the grain in this regard. HIs 'contested' marks (at least via highlights) aren't truly contested in a body sense - they're run & jump, outreach. He appears nice and agile & I like the groundball stuff I see in the videos, but apparently those moments are few & far between. Seems a nice kid without too many hard edges. There are some obvious parallels to Weideman across all these attributes...long reach, nice kick, nice skills, good athlete, nice guy. We waited years for Sam to add to his frame thinking this would improve his physicality but ultimately, he just couldn't take contested marks when he was bodied early. He doesn't play with any authority. KPFs in AFL without authority don't make the grade.

Jefferson looks like a nice player, but his style would typically work well in a team that moves the ball quickly and kick to his advantage or an isolated/space situation where he has freedom to run at the footy. Weideman would do well in this type of team as well, and I expect he will be improved at the Bombers for this reason (+, nothing like a club change to pull your head out), noting their style under B Scott is TBD & their inability to win contest is why they've not recently been as good a team as us.

I just think it doesn't feel like a Melbourne pick. A part of me thinks JT doesn't quite know how to pick KPFs - his preferred attributes (toughness, competitiveness, heart) are rarely seen in underage key forwards because Height, not power, is why kids are told to play forward in junior footy. Its why key position players are such a crapshoot at the draft

In any case, all the players I preferred (maybe other than George, who's speculative in his own right) were off the board by the time we picked, so I have no issue with it. We've filled a need, he's a great height, and its all in front of him as to where he can go. I'm behind him 100%.

I understand he’s not a Hawkins clone but the above shows a smart footballer that uses his body, vertical leap and reach to protect the ball drop and take numerous one grab contested marks. Let’s not forget Hogan had his flaws.

As for Humphrey I might be in the minority but I’m happy we didn’t give up three first rd picks (all be it picks in the late teens) for him. For all of his physical presence there are apparently question marks over his disposal. I agree we are a contested side but we yearn for class finishers and I think Jeffery will give us that in years to come.

As long as he shows up Day 1 with the right attitude and willingness to learn and work hard, he'll be fine. As a supporter that's all I expect and can reasonably ask for. And the best players have belief. I've no problems with him aiming high. Nothing wrong with a bit of swagger as long as has the work rate and attitude to match.

Don't worry about that, He has quiet confidence but a steely attitude to learning and is a very very quick onboarder. A very popular young fellow he is also unassuming in much the same way one R Flower was!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
