Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thought we’d go more ready made since were in our window, but can’t complain as he looks a talent. He’ll need a few years in the gym, but if he can clunk marks like that at AFL level he’ll be a player.

Welcome to the Dees Jefferson Jefferson Jefferson Ford!

Unlike some recent Demon Forwards - I emphasize 'some', I am referring to a recent defector who I saw kick a swag against Box Hill,  who marked 3 in 20 after that - this lad can hold a mark. A commodity not to be sneezed at.

I note the face palm from Lord Nev: don't get me wrong, it's not a put down, I know someone who knows him, he's a great lad, but he didn't manage to hold on to his marking opportunities. That's an unfortunate fact which would be difficult to argue with. I wish him all the best, but I can't see that aspect of his game improving.

Then again, and this is something I'm not privy to, Sam was possibly pulling down the same one-grabbers when he was at Jefferson's stage and I'm aware that because of the sheer pressure AFL games applied in AFL football, Jefferson's marking capacity will be tested. Peace, brother.

Ultimately pairing another young key forward with JVR was too good an opportunity to pass up

Clubs can go a decade being a key forward short (we'd know)

They'll compliment each other well

Also a bit ironic we took a key-forward with what was originally a Freo draft pick

I wonder if we secretly had more interest in Hewett and tried to keep it quiet. He might’ve been the great result JT was talking up. That or Allan going earlier and Hollands or Buss sliding.

The guys who went in the rest of the first round weren’t really ready to go prospects either, at least in positions of need anyway.

We played JVR in the reserves the entire year, I don't think we have a large emphasis on selecting ready to go players

A young raw key position forward.  Jefferson takes some good marks and has a simple kicking technique.  He drops a few as well and looked awkward in his second efforts.  Like a young Max King is how I’d describe Jefferson.  We need to be patient.  He needs lots of protein shakes, gym work for 3 years and a determination to succeed.
Drafting young key forwards is a risky choice.  From Cook to Weideman to Hulett, we’ve not been successful.  Yet with BBB on one leg and Tmcd on the other side of 33, the outlook for a future of a JVR and Jefferson combo is the opportunity that ultimately looked the deciding motivation for JT.

Looks agile and has a leap.

A few less centimetres shorter than the King twins but he’s hardly a shortarse.

Best wishes young fella.

He plays like Charlie Curnow to me. Has the leap, strong hands, is a few centimetres taller than Curnow. If he turns out half as exciting, he'll be another JT special. Just needs to add 15-20kgs.

I'm ok with this pick.  He looks like he has good hands, which is what the Weed always lacked.  I'm not seeing him double-grabbing marks he should hold easily.  He's agile and can work at ground level and he kicks straight.  He looks to have all the tools to succeed.  We also have plenty of time to build his body before he needs to be slotted into the senior side.  Looks like a good pick.

Somewhat disappointed as I think he's a very 'un JT/Melbourne' player in terms of competitiveness and physicality. JTs KPF drafting has been his weak spot and all else being equal, this is a very similar pick to Weideman albeit without the spectre of the McKay or Curnow misses.

Like with Weideman, my concern is you can't teach physicality. It's innate in some, lacking in others. Jesse had it from day dot, JVR has it. Weid looked a million bucks with a run and jump (which if you recall, was his touted draft strength) but at AFL level you just rarely get the opportunity to attack an aerial ball unbuffeted. Hopefully Jefferson has a few more strings to his bow.

I really do hate to be critical of an 18 year old kid who hasn't played a game and presents well. But it feels like a story we've watched to the end before.

Having said all of that - I'll be right behind him, hope I'm so far wrong and he's Josh Kennedy reincarnated.

I'd more be face plaming that you referred to him as a defector.  Yeah Weid left the MFC, but I think it was a move that all parties were comfortable with based on him getting a fresh start and likewise for us and Schache, with the Bulldogs.  Weid was going nowhere at the MFC for the past 2 seasons.  Hardly a defection.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
