Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The trouble Picket some posters ( eg Mach 5) want the finished product of a draftee at 18/19 and also concentrate on some alleged or minor defects which most often can be developed or trained for.
MY previous post on why we should embrace and take MJ sums up his good points snd I believe he has the attributes as a base of a very good footballer and also the odd elite trick that separates him from  C/ B grader like Sam Weid.

In fairness,  I'm pretty sure Pickett is very pro MJ. And vocal, (sic)

To all the doubters and supporters who have commented on Matthew Jefferson I offer the following comments following his highlights stats and career that has been covered by the gurus and "experts" alike.

1. Cadman is NOT going to be available and MJ is clearly the second best KPF on his record in Junior and Championship ( National ) footy so far.

2. Matthew has put on 8 kgs and about 3 cms since his first stats about 9/12 mths ago.

3. He like most of the top 15/20 draftees speaks very/surely and  confidently about himself indicating a degree of belief based on a good grounding on the forward line so far.

4. Regarding Lucas Cook and comparisons once again he like Wattsy was expected to be a saviour, almost lone handed. JVR and MJ have the benefit of if fit and available Tmac BBB Gawny Brodie and Fritta plus a plethora of mids and smalls playing forward to learn and develop plus our superior coaching at the Club now.

5. If you say that MJ is only being selected as being the next in line for FF and we should delay our selection till Mr Right comes along he is clearly 2nd best and has a number of skills that make good forwards. That is good mark good lead good kick ( record is  fine for the one poster who knocked this) and he is ripe for further development already maturing in size.

6. To be a good KPF you need to be a good rounded player with some tricks and to me looking at his highlights he has got some X factor as well these tricks which makes him a potentially good AFL player. Of course how he handles expectation and pressure are vital factors to be proven.

7. JVR came to us with his package of ability to play at KPF or KPD and has started well and been a very good contributor at Casey  who excites us with his potential. Because we didn't know about him as much he has not got the grilling Matthew is getting. We are accepting of him as we have seen some real evidence at Casey that he could be a  good/great Demon on the forward line.

8. There is no way knowing if  MJ will fulfil his draft potential but he looks a "good footballer" to me and I Will back JT and the FD to select him as we need some young forwards to blossom with our other stars to be confident of some success over the next 5 plus years. Recruiting good footballers ensures you have a choice of options in a team that their ability can break games apart with their talent.  MJ I have the feeling is this.

PS David Schwarz always looked a good footballer in 1991/2 in the Reserves and JVR and Bowser to me are similar at the Dees from Casey form and Bowers first 20 plus AFL games. MJ's highlights are indicative of a player with football gifts that may well separate himself from others and become an elite Demon forward.

Go forth and select JT and company and good luck.

Excellent points 58er. Back JT in.

Fox footy article.

Star Oakleigh Chargers goalkicker Matt Jefferson continues to be linked to Melbourne’s first selection, however the Demons have been proactive in flagging trades with other teams over recent weeks.

It could be a red-herring planted by WCE to get us to take him @ #13 instead of Allen or Hewett, making it more likely they get at least 3 of the 4 WA players ranked by Twomey in the top 15 (Ginbey, Hewett, Allen and Busslinger) with their picks 8, 12 and 20.

Lots of ducks and drakes being played out...

I get the feeling the Eagles are targeting two of: Ginbey, Busslinger and Allen. With Essendon apparently leaning to taking Phillipou, Ginbey is a greater chance of getting to their pick. But I don't think Busslinger gets past both the Blues and Western Bulldogs, and multiple clubs looking at Allen starting with the Cats, so there is a reasonable chance that Jefferson will be their highest preference with pick 12. This would suggest the Eagles value Jefferson ahead of Hewett, but just the go-home risk factor of a long term forward prospect to weigh up.

If Ess take Phillipou at #4, Tsatas will slide setting off a domino effect for other highly touted top 10 players:  Humphrey, Clark, Ginbey, Mackenzie, Hollands and will be looked at by Hawks, Saints, Carlton and WBD making it more likely that two or all three of the other WA players slide into the 12 - 20 range where WCE  have pick 12 and 20.  .

WCE first pick is #8 and Twomey has them taking Gibney.

I think Jefferson has a chance to slide into the 20s... and we still wouldn’t take him. I just don’t think he has demonstrated he has the tricks to justify such an early pick. Nice hands, nice kick, tall... what else?

What do you want from a forward?

Not overly blown away by this guy.

Many of his goals from his highlights package came from either “Joe the Gooses” or from close range set shots. Furthermore, a lot of his goals came from just the one game at Icon Park Vs WA.

On the flip side, we need another capable  key forward to develop and hopefully partner JVR when T Mac and BBB finish up. Therefore I’ll be happy if we select him.

After hearing Jason Taylor I didn't exactly feel that we are fully on the Jefferson band wagon.

Sounds like it'll be best available for pick 13 with then attention turned to a needs pick for pick 38 which sounds like where where'll go for a potential key forward.

I can see us doing a deal with GWS to get 2 picks inside 20 and giving them 13 as part of the deal. See my post on Dees Trade Thread for my possible scenario, if you are interested.

Eagles may rue the Rioli deal where they gave up him and pick 2 for pics 8, 12, a F2 (Port) and F3 (Port) as GCS seem quite keen on Gibney who by all accounts WCE were going to take at pick 8.  But that could be posturing by the Suns

Eagles got an extra 1st round pick but it was a big slide from 2 to 8 when it was known there are 'player' cliffs around pick 5/6 and another around 9/10.

So they may take Jefferson at 12!

This has some TAC Oakleigh Chargers footage, his marking is a highlight. As for his kicking (I can only go off the two highlights videos on utube), he slots them from different angles and ranges, let’s not forget how bad at times goal kicking was from out team last season.

Jefferson is a key forward who hits the scoreboard regularly and finds ways to tally shots on goal. He was named an All-Australian in the under-18 championships, with his seven-goal haul against Western Australia a memorable day out for Vic Metro, and he converts his opportunities with a minimum of fuss and a reliable goalkicking routine.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
