Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wouldn't be assuming we get much output from BBB going forward - Goodwin has said more than once he will have ongoing knee issues to manage for the remainder of his playing days

I suspect this isn't a fix but part of the ongoing maintenance regime

My sense is that if we are still reliant on him being our main tall target inside F50 in 2023 we have not improved - I remain hopeful that one of the following can happen

- JVR has a massive summer and performs at the highest level consistently

- H Petty is used as a tall forward

- Either Grundy or Gawn (or both) can have a meaningful impact in the F50

- J Smith trains as a forward over summer, stays fit and surprises everyone with 40+ goals (yes, I know this one is a bit out there 😀)

Or Josh Schache* surprises everyone and becomes a real KPF option.

*Is that spelled correctly or in the great tradition of Demonland, have I stuffed up a player's surname completely?

Using the real estate analogy, it's not how he starts but how he finishes. So long as he comes good for the finals (as in 2021) we will be OK.

If not, then we have the opportunity to find and develop alternatives who are likely to be need for 2024.

Honestly given his output last season I’d be really worried if the match committee were relying on him being our main focal point up forward.

I like Petty in defence but I really would like there to be a serious consideration for playing him as a permanent forward.

You could be right tiers nurse him through the early part of the year and have him ready for the run home, we can only hope.!!

Either way, during the season we need to find out over several games if Petty can play forward and Turner can hold down a key back position. The beauty being this can happen in the same games. Let's not wait until the last 5 minutes of the season again.

I feel like the club knows Brown is only capable of 12-14 games a year now.

I’m using this assumption to fuel my theory that Petty will play as a forward in 2023.

Maybe, but when has Goody ever thought that of any player, and not squeezed every ounce of juice from them in a single season? (that was a bad analogy)

I’d like to see Petty remain in the back half of the ground. Our backline is our strength.  If it’s not broken, don’t stuff around with it.

Rather see (hope) that JVR is part of the solution for the forward line along with a well ‘player managed’ BBB.

…..and better delivery / connectivity coming from / with the mids

I'm not necessarily advocating Petty as a permanent forward, I just want to know if he is a viable plan B if needed. Currently we don't have enough evidence.  I like the look of JVR at Casey and by all means, play him so we know, but I rather he not think we are totally reliant upon him. Let him develop naturally. It then allows Turner to be given his opportunity also. Without injury, it would be hard for him to get picked before May/Lever/Petty but he deserves his chance.

There is such a thing as being too safe. We need the flexibility when required, as it will be.

I find this suggestion of throwing Petty forward just bizarre. It only weakens our backline. Heck, if we really want to solve the KPF question we could just go the whole hog and move Steven May down there.

Agree, but then I'd actually like to see that done too on occasion.  If we're behind early in the last and need to kick a bunch of goals to get back in the game with a forward line that's struggled to kick goals all game, then I think pinch hitting either of these guys up forward would be worth a shot.

I recall that game 2020 (against Freo I think) when we through May forward, he kicked a succession of goals and we nearly pinched the game back.  Maysie can be an absolute weapon on his day up forward.  Would have got us into finals that year had we got over the line.

But overall I agree that Petty to FF is too much robbing Peter to pay Paul.  We'd only be that injury to May away from swinging Petty back down the backline and at the same time taking away or key forward and destabilize both ends of the ground.  Disco could be a solid option down back one day, but I'd be very surprised if he's close to Petty and May's standard just yet - give the guy a few years to build his game and body like we did with Petty.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
