Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 5-day isolation period isn’t mandatory but is recommended. She is symptomatic, so is erring on the side of caution.

Most of us have already had covid but that doesn’t mean we can’t get it again. We’ll all be testing daily and hoping no one else has it. 🤞🏼

You're all doing 'the right thing'. Best wishes; I'm sure the girls draw a lot from the DA. You all sure make good viewing!

They say that a finals campaign is a new season. Hoping we get to use the Carlton facilities for our training sessions, so we can create a home ground advantage at the 2 or 3 finals games, and really set ourselves to "boom".

Move in there and push Carlton out for a while. I'm sure that won't happen.

Casey fields just doesn't work for us. Too far to travel, poor public transport, and usually challenging conditions, though it definitely has a home ground advantage. Interstaters must hate all that travel, and the open environment.

Why did they start  the renovations before the end of AFLW season? (Disorganised, disrespectful or the board thought it was appropriate.)

Oh well, anytime, anywhere.

Go Dees.

Might not be that simple, Kev. You know how these things are. Probs have to lodge an application of some description to postpone renos and the whole red tape thing kicks in.

I’m spewing as much as anyone that our home ground advantage is gone.  Despite being a huge pain in the a** to get to, Casey has such an awesome vibe and the girls feed off that. But I’m so confident we can take on anyone, anywhere.

❤️💙

They certainly do Tim! They appreciate us so much. They always make heaps of time for us and it’s never tokenistic.

The Club deserves praise though since we are given the means needed to support the girls on a practical level. For example, we are the only W team who have a banner every single match. And we have probably as many giant heads for the girls as we do for the men. And who doesn’t love the giants heads?! 😁

Many aflw facilities are getting renovations now that were timed to finish before the January season, then got caught out with the season moving to spring.

I assume that’s the case for Casey, and the cost of moving timelines with construction at the moment is monumental.

The grand final was unlikely to be at Casey even if we host it.

Princes’ park is designed as the leagues showpiece venue. Might as well get used to that

It's a bummer for the team they don't get their home ground advantage.

Good for me but.

It will be like old times, getting a tram up one of Melbourne's two great boulevards to watch a game at Princess Park.

With our method, a bit more protection from the win and weather won't hurt either.

Really KM stop looking for scapegoats over 2 games of footy!

in your other post you have blamed even the Board! MFC I presume who would have no say ( vote or similar) on this timing.

Actually the timing is probably making Casey Fields available for start of VFL next season.

Who exactly are disorganised?

And it's not even disrespectful as its  a plus for the girls for the next 20 years of our AFLW home games.

PS Hope Mach 5 doesn't  blame Perty for this!!!

I hope not.

Would much rather have them play somewhere close to MCG. Casey is such a difficult venue to get to and the conditions don't help for showcase footy.

To change venue at the end of season stills seems strange to me.

Would have liked to get Ikon for our tor training purposes and develop as a home base.

As for building contracts. Would assume plenty have written in them circumstances that allow for delays, etcetera. The contractor definitely has it, so assume the contractee has it as well. I am not a legal, but start and finish dates are generally flexible.

So priorities to the mens team!

The womens fixture was brought forward, so the contract was going to be finished before late January (last years women's fixture start date). So the men start the season about late March. Finishing the sheds by late February would not be a great sacrifice for the men, as they could use Gosch's as a temporary venue.

I hope so too, DiO .

Unfortunately a member of the Demon Army who was at Saturday’s match tested positive for covid this morning. Because our QF is on Friday she won’t be able to attend. Hoping no one else comes up positive. 🤞🏼

Best of luck for all!

The Demon Army are the best cheer squad in the AFLW. Vocal, prepared for any weather, customised chants, and banners week in, week out when very few teams have them. The vibe created is a big part of the "love" part of my love-hate relationship with Casey Fields!

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the renovations are that are underway? The surface itself it great, they only just did the training facilities a while back, so I'm guessing the existing changerooms?

Spot on DiO, the change-rooms are being totally replaced.

And thank you for your praise of the DA. The girls are always very grateful so it’s an absolute joy doing it for them. And we wouldn’t ever have them run onto the field without a banner, as is the case with most of the other W teams. ❤️💙

My goodness you don't want Casey long term with updated Home Ground updated  facilities for AFLW and VFLW and VFL yet you are drumming up opinions on gender football favouritism and the length and timing of the contract.

Plus you STIILL want the 2 next Finals games Yes that's all you are cogitating over the AFLW Dees to play at Casey Fields. Make up your mind please.

Actually not that it would bother you but the girls love Fortress Casey and embrace it proudly but suspect that Ikon Park is ok to them as a substitute.

Plenty of good reasons we all know ie crowds, transport lack of wind hopefully and The GF will 99% be played there if we or another Victorian Club ( other than Geelong) host .

Time to move on KM it's simply not worth it as you are making a mountain out of a molehill and note you have not even acknowledged some of my points which I assume you can't fault.

Let's just hope the AFLW  team win our first flag and they can unfurl it at Casey in Round 1 next season whenever that may be. ( August 2023 start again maybe).

Saw the team selections

https://www.womens.afl/news/113307/qualifying-final-teams-crows-captain-back-after-rapid-recovery

We go in unchanged.

Great for our cohesion.

Adelaide have Randall returning.

Hope she is underdone, as she is an important player for them when she plays. A powerhouse, who can play back or forward.

LOL someone suggested we all tuck our jumpers into our pants tomorrow night as an homage to Eden. Everyone laughed, me included. Outwardly that is. On the inside I was thinking only if you put a gun to my head. 😑

Quote from Meggs,

Mick Stinear, the Demons coach, wants his team to continue to live in the moment, take their chances for goal and play out the full four quarters.  Ikon is a happy ground for Melbourne and our game plan will flourish in a more pristine environment than the travails of Casey Fields."

i think if we take our chances for goals well, we win.

Last few games we have played for the four quarters, give them nothing, fight, fight all game.

We have also been playing mainly in our forward 50 area. I assume this is where the game style will change for us. They need to be ready to fight all over the field.

The backline has been great at repelling the opposition's forward forays easily. I believe this is where we could also win or lose it. They will have to work hard on Friday. I want Gillard to play close to her opponent and for Birch to read the play and go after the intercepts. They have been very good at launching attacks from the defensive arc with lots of precision balls, spread, and aggressive use of the corridors. Be interesting to see if they back themselves for the entire game, or go into their shell if it doesn't pay off, and some errors and turnovers happen.

Our midfield has been great this year and I expect them to keep on, keeping on.

Our field marking including the forwards has been an advantage for us, keep clunking them Dees.

Can't wait to see some of our runners break the lines.

Play smart Dees, and as Stinear said, "play in the moment"

Go Dees.

Really nervous about this game.

In the GF the beat us by shutting down our space and stopping our ball movement by not going directly for the ball but going the tackle instead, especially in their F50.

Even without Phillips and with a proppy Randall they will be a formidable force if we aren't ready for and have counter tactics for their high pressure game style.

Our forward line has been much more potent this season than season 6.  It was Adelaide's defence that beat us twice last season, including the grand final.  We had 9 goal kickers last week, so our forward depth is our strength, particularly with Hore playing her best footy at the moment, and Harris continuing to be Harris.  Banners is just growing stronger each week, for her youth she's scary to oppositions.  If we're able to counter their backline we're okay.  I also think the key to their attack is Ash Woodleigh (hurts me to say that, given she used to be a Demon).  With Gillard, Birch, Heath playing at their peak, and the inclusion last week of Gay, we need to minimise her impact.  Our midfield is incredibly strong - Paxman, Purcell, Mithen, Hanks, L Pearce are dominant forces.  Plus I'm loving the impact Mackin has made on the team, she's a beast. Zanker and Lampard for some annoying reason tend to go unnoticed by media commentators, I reckon Zanker was one of the best on ground last week.  But hey, if their understatement means the opposition don't consider their impact, that's their loss, because they both have the ability to impact the game.

I think we're okay :)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
