Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Welcome to Demonland Pick 13

I’d be definitely happy with MFC picking  Phillipou. He would have time to develop and a forward line featuring him and JVR and Kozzzy and Fritta would be very dangerous indeed.

Normally not a fan of highlight reels but he looks the goods.  Great balance, good hands and kicks straight!!  Also possibly the longest legs I have ever seen!!

Nice long arms, too ... with strong hints of reach and 'hang' time ... just like Liam Jurrah. Perhaps not quite as fast but that can be worked on ... youthfulness is an asset ... turns on a small circle, so that is a start. Beautiful kick and prepared to go the distance with those kicks. Thus, knows his game already. Got my support - get in there with the early pick, Demons. For a decent forward coach, he has the essentials to develop and win games.

Not sold on Keeler to be honest. I see too much of Casey Sibosado if some can remember a while back.

I don't see too many defensive or 2nd efforts. Jackson had that and was of of his biggest strengths.

I also have heard that his fitness and work ethic can be a bit of a concern and may need some work.

I put Jefferson in the same bracket.

I remember the Summer of Sibosado well. Another example of potential being left on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wasted Potential.

Agree that Keeler is far from perfect but there is a bit to like and in the right environment with the right attitude he has the potential to be very very good. Just like your comparison with LJ he is probably a better mark and kick than Jackson was at the same age - does he have the desire and will to be a top-grade AFL footballer? Thats the big question our recruiters need to ask and answer

However, given our list profile and lack of good mobile talls I'd be surprised if he wasn't in the conversation for pick 13

Yes his highlights are excellent and reminds me of a young Franklin but slightly better overhead.

Interesting series of marks by Keeler - hang time and extraordinary reach overhead, some hang for chest marks, taken on the chest and then the arms enfold the ball; can get low for the knee-high marks and taps; leads well and well out of the square - sometimes outside 50 - and he can kick 'em from there, no problems. Great talent with some big time coaching - very handy.

I think Serhat Temel would be a good option for this pick.

Maybe Matthew Panos if Temel is already taken.

What an absolute blast from the past is Temel.

People use to get sucked in by his man child frame when in reality he was just another Billy Morrison.

Haha Billy was actually a Melbourne supporter growing up and is back to being a Dees member also.

#13 feels like no-man’s land to me in this draft: outside the top talent and a fraction beyond genuine slider territory (I seriously doubt we’re getting Phillipou). We should moonwalk out of this one.

Would be looking at West Coat for #20 for example, or the Giants for their #19. Then see what offers we get for a that sweet spot on draft overnight and maybe slide even further.

Could equal another healthy future first and an upgrade on our second rounder, and then pluck a couple mid-to-late 20s picks to fill our spots in this draft, a la Sparrow and Jordon in 2018.

Go into 2024 as premiers with three first round draft picks and just as many second-rounders and watch everyone have a meltdown because the world is unfair and we win.

Where is he playing now days, I remember he was playing in the Northern Football League years ago.

If I remember correctly also, he was invited to do a pre season with the Dees under Neale Daniher one year after he was delisted.

ur thought process is 13 isnt a good spot to pick a talented player but if we slide back to 19 or 20 we will have more luck? how does that make sense

Anyone who is enamoured by whatever falls to or who they're targeting at #13. We're not in a rebuild.

I'm [censored] at rating draft talent. All I have read though is that beyond #6 there is a blanket plus some stay-home arrangements. Of course next year is a better pool (it always is). We traded forward cookies for years. We can sell them again to get up, or just back out for a year and collect the rewards. We have a fairly healthy list (sans KPF, which we don't get in the draft).

I can see us potentially trading this pick if the player we want is gone and there's not a slider. I'd think the teams most likely to want to trade a future 1st are those with new coaches - Nth, GWS or StK, with Nth and GWS holding other teams 1st rounders. So it could be something like Melb give pick 13, GWS give picks 31 & 57 (2022) and Rick 1st (2023).

Guys like Keeler, Lemmon, Barrett could be still available at 31 or 37 (I haven't factored in the academy moves) to help top up our talls and then there's always a slider who was predicted to go earlier or the ability to get someone who adds the x-factor (like Munkura) at 37 and it wouldn't be far off the right spot. We'd then have an extra pick up our selves if a bid for Emile-Brennan comes earlier than expected. Hopefully he'll slip through to Cat B rookie.

If we don't trade this pick, i think we just get the best possible player at 13, which might be Jefferson.

the only reason people are saying this years draft is shallow is because they have only seen these kids play this year, this is the crop of kids that have been mostly affected by covid and barely played over the past 3 years.

Doesn't mean there isn't talent there, in fact there could be a lot of hidden talent, which is where the best talent scouts come into play.  keep and eye on the kids that get picked around the 25-40 mark.  could be some real diamonds in the rough.

No developing talls please, they will take 5 years before they are ready and our time is now. There are a number of tall forward and back free agents coming up. l would be going after another small forward to help kozzie and cover for the significant hole he leaves in our list if he leaves. Small forwards also contribute and develop quicker. Jacob Konstanty sounds like someone that has some goal sense and can tackle. Also has some upside given his only recent return to footy.

And finishing 13th in the Melb Cup  6 or 7 places above 19 or 20 does provide ONE advantage, greater prize money but generally means you are a better horse.

Picks after top6/8 often are called as lower or out if elite but that doesn't mean they are not good players and that no 20 pick is  better.

Sliders are often players who have suffered injuries over the draft year and slide because if it but can be dodgy  with a bad knee or other perceived or real disadvantage.

Kossie was No 12 and  is a better player than Sparrow or Jordan. In the 20's or 30's.
Your reasoning is not logical nor based on any facts just fantasy in believing this sort of [censored].

In 2013 the No 13 selection was Patrick Cripps probably number 1 today, recruiters who picks 1-12 must be now kicking themselves.

If you have a look at the history of pick 13 it is scattered with some exceptional players over the years some like Jack Riewoldt, Taylor Adams, Shane Crawford, Robert Murphy, Daniel Talia and Nick Dal Santo just to name a few others.

So a slider sometimes turns out better than the number 1 of that year.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
