Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ginbey can play the Hibberd role and that is the role East Perth played him in when he was in their seniors.  2021 he played for East Perth Colts and Wesley College as a rebounding CHB, where he was outstanding. He’s not big enough to be a KPD

It was Woey who moved him into the middle this season for 2 reasons, out of necessity and to show the versatility Rueban has in his game. Woey felt Rueban could eventually be a midfielder and he flourished.  WA ended up putting him in the middle and he has shot up the rankings, but I see an Elliott Yeo type where he will be a half back who can be thrown into the middle if needed.

The kid has many strings to his bow and oozes leadership

I’m thinking Ginbey won’t be available, West Coast will take him with one of their 2 picks before us.

Do we look towards filling a need for a key tall at this pick

KPD - Lewis Hayes/Busslinger

KPF - Jefferson

I actually wouldn’t mind us taking a punt with this pick on the Vic Metro boy Gruzewski who showed a bit to me in the championships. Another WA boy who will be a little under the radar due to missing a lot of the season with injuries is Ed Allan, he has a high ceiling and could be one who we say how did he not get taken earlier.

Small forward who impacts the scoreboard could also be something we look at Konstanty with that pick.

Having said all that I was really impressed with Sheezal in the championships and as good as the draft is next year if he’s sitting there at pick 5 do we offer the Hawks pick 13 and next years first and second (bearing in mind we have Freos 1st and 2nd pick) and pick 37 for pick 5 and 24 this year.

Equally intrigued by Gruzewski & Allan @Pennant St Dee..

Shame that both spent a decent time out injured, so we really have only seen slices, but what we’ve seen has been pretty good. Gruzewski looks like a great mark and kicks it well (field kicking when playing back was impressive). Would love to have seen him play more forward than back so we could get a greater sample of him as a forward. His marking is very clean.

Those of us outside WA didn’t see much of Allen outside of the final game against SA, but his athletic testing was exceptional. If he’s inherited any of his dad’s footy nous, he could be some player.  Seems well suited to the wing, but at his height, could he play a role in the fwd line?

Isn't that what the WA teams do to their highly rated local products?

Don’t see him as an out and out forward but very much see a Bont, Fyfe, Cripps type mid who creates headaches match up wise when moved forward

Ditto. Good hands and a good kick. Gruzewski has the foundation of a very good forward.  His contested marking is a real asset.

It will certainly be interesting who the Demons pick.

I have faith in Jason Taylor though. He has picked some gems for the Demons over the years.

The MFC recruiting staff usually do one or two "mock drafts" prior to the proper AFL National Draft at the end of November and they are usually 80-90% correct in who they think other AFL clubs will choose.

The eternal question is...at draft pick 13# do you go best talent available or needs base, such as a tall forward? 🤔

Not one for pick 13, but what are your thoughts on Darcy Jones @Pennant St Dee? I’ve gone back to some of the Champs games and really like his pace and spark. Small, but looks to have some tricks.

Coached against Darcy this season and really liked  what I saw. Knows how to find the footy, takes the game on, quick/smart decision maker in congestion. Work rate is exceptional and has the tank to run all day.  He’s taller than Caleb Daniel but reminds me so much of him. I watched Daniel play against WA in his draft year and he was that far ahead of the other players in terms of skill, awareness, decision making and impacting the game it was crazy. At the time all the talk was about him being too small but I hoped he would be taken, Darcy is in the same mould. If he’s best available at 37 I have no issue if we take him

Thanks mate, always appreciate your insight. Can definitely see where the Daniel comparison would come from. Pound for pound, Daniel was easily amongst the best in the ‘14 crop.

Jones looks like he can play across all areas of the field as well.

My understanding is that the club have had several interviews with Murray Bushranger product in Brayden George.

They will be up the border over the next few weeks to interview a few Bushie lads as well some potential bush league smokies.

Ollie Holland's another Murray product who boards at Geelong Grammer was also interviewed by the Dees during draft camp and were thoroughly impressed with his maturity and leadership which has been a trait of his since his was a young fella.

I believe they'll conduct a few more interviews with Ollie over the next few weeks.

Thanks DD36. Hollands would be an excellent pick and suit our future midfield needs.

I'm about taking needs unless there is a huge discrepancy or slider. At 13 someone like  phillipou would fill a need as a developing forward. If he's gone and there is no other forward rucks we rate then sure take a mid. The problem with that is a mid will almost certainly not play senior footy for two years behind out current talkent and we will then be traded if we have a mid glut. Drafting for needs could result in a kid making a much earlier impact. Think bowey, kozzie or even jvr who will probably debut early second year. That being said, most teams seem to take best available talent.

His recovery is coming along well. Sought out some clubs regarding rehabilitation programs etc.

Won't play next year though.

I’d take the punt on Gruzewski if I had the choice. He just looks AFL capable in the way he is able to take contested marks and his kicking looks smoothe.  Showed his values in helping Lewis Hayes finish the time trial.

Just as important as a player’s on-field skills are his unselfishness and his prioritising of teammates first at all times.

Max helping the Hayes boy finish the race, thereby finishing later than he otherwise would’ve, speaks absolute volumes. It’s that heart thing that we always talk about and look for.

What are your thoughts on him dazzle? I vaguely recall you had some good things to say about him earlier in the year. One of the phantom drafts likens him to Toby Greene.

I think if it was a top 5 pick we would take best available. However, our drafting from 6-40 under Taylor sees him taking players that he identifies with certain stand out qualities. Pickett, Oliver, Jordon, Sparrow. I could go on. Other teams did not have those guys so high in the draft but were proven wrong by our drafting. I think we have to be looking for stand out qualities to know who we will take at pick 13.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
