Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We cannot draft again from WA

To not draft from interstate any more is to wave the white flag and say we don't back our system, player welfare, development or future success. We might as well pack up shop. Seriously.

This is amongst the silliest things I've ever heard suggested

The Interstate clubs say the exact same thing in regards to their feelings about Victorian players wanting to come back home. You as a professional sporting club has to pick the player who best suits your needs, I was hoping for Young or Serong but Jackson won me over. To be totally honest I had the same theory of thought during the Jack Watts and NicNat Draft. I was glad we took Watts but would we of been a more successful club quicker with NicNat. Probably not, reckon he would a done a runner too.

Natanui was seen as a bit of a flight risk.

Bit couple that with our off field mess and horrific culture at the time then absolutely no doubt he would have done a runner once soon enough.

Your post is conjecture in entirety. Runs second to the title of this thread in the sweeping statement stakes

You cannot compare where we were when Watts was drafted with where we are now. Might as well compare zucchinis with watermelons. How's that for a sweeping statement!

I'll take the Don't Argue on the chin Stiff Arm. I can base my opinion regardless of the info I do or don't have, it's only an opinion. Also I can compare when Watts was drafted as that was why I wanted him picked over NicNat. Strictly State based.

There has been plenty of players who get drafted from other states and remained in Victoria some examples are Cripps and Grundy they have turned their backs on their home states regularly when asked about going back.

Blake Acres is from WA recruited by the Saints then off loaded to Fremantle and now has come back to Victoria, for the money.

At the MFC Chandler is from SA, Petty is from SA, Sparrow is from SA and Alex Neal-Bullen is from SA.

The current players who are very iffy are Rivers and Pickett 2023 will decide whether they want to return home or not.

Often players who come from other states and meet and marry a local girl who's roots are in Victoria will stay for the family support when they have children.

We must always take a risk and take the best available no matter which state he comes from, only if you get 2 players of equal potential, you then think about needs and finally consider the local as more attactive.

Ssshhhh!

That logic doesn’t fit the Hyperbole narrative, we’ve lost Farmer, Hogan and Jackson in the last 20 years

We can all have our opinions on whether to draft from WA again or not. It’s a given that every club will be drafting from every state over the course of time. It’s a national comp, and every recruiter and list manager has a responsiblity to get quality players and quality people through the door.

If there’s more players going home these days, the only thing that will happen is if there’s 2 players they’re choosing from and they can barely split them from best available or list needs, the local boy will get picked. If there’s a clear stand out between the next 2 on their board, they’re picking the stand out regardless of where they’re from, unless this draftee has said he doesn’t want to move to Victoria.

When I say ‘stand out’ or ‘barely can split them’, that’s taking into account everything (Physical attributes, mental attributes, list needs etc.)

If we are facing Covid restrictions again, and on form we probably are, then I'd have to say it could be a problem recruiting kids from Interstate, particularly WA.

Life has been [censored] in Victoria over the last 3 years.

These kids can see their mates living free and easy and it must be hard for them to have to miss out. I think that would have been a big part of LJ's decision to return.

Lifestyle, restriction free, among his mates......

Penn, I suggested Jefferson and George would be a great draft for our future quite  a while ago. We would get one at 13, but not the other at 37. A trade up of 37 would be needed using a Future pick.

What do you think about that scenario?

Our need for another key forward is obvious to us all and Jefferson appears to be the next best after Cadman. If JT agrees that is probably it. George is the touted game changer who will be out next season, who but for injury, could have been too 5-10.

It is a chance to get him lower than his value if we really want him and can get a trade up done. It wouldn’t be easy.

The other alternative is take one and whoever at 37.

I’d like to see us get some run with our pick, or another mid who impacts the scoreboard.

I like Holland, Allan, Hewett for this reason. I think the 2 first rounders next year is where we target the key forward

If flight risk is a nationwide issue, surely Victorian clubs will be the main beneficiaries? For every player we might lose there must be more wanting to return to Victoria. Of course, there are 10 Victorian clubs then fighting for those players, but I just see that as another reason for the club to make sure it is managed in a way that makes us a desired destination.

This is a bit of an over reaction.

We still have Kozzie.

It's always a risk but if a gun player leaves we need to be compensated.

Not sure if Brody is a great replacement for Jackson.

I feel like Jackson is a better fwd option.

Great to have two big rucks but that doesn't translate to goals scored.

We really need an established big forward in this premiership window asap.

Tmac is injury prone and Bbb has slumps.

Weid is gone...no biggy but we didn't have a big gun to target with bb out of form and Tmac out injured and it showed.

Melk wasn't it that's for sure.

We lost a flag as a result.

We got Langdon and Lever in from interstate

Langdon hails from South Yarra, I believe. Lever from Romsey.

We Have from interstate:

May (NT)

Moniz-Wakefield (NT)

Spargo (NSW)

Turner (NSW)

Van Rooyen (WA)

Rivers (WA)

Woewodin (WA)

McVee (WA)

Dunstan (SA)

Neal-Bullen (SA)

Sparrow (SA)

Petty (SA)

Kossie (SA)

Chandler (SA)

B. Brown (Tas)

and Now Grundy (SA) and Adams (WA)

And this year we lost Jackson(WA), Bedford (Vic) and Hunt (Vic)

The go home factor is a beat up that happens less often than people think, and also often a $$$ factor hidden behind the go home factor to sell it easier to the media and clubs, as well as soften the backlash.

If the WA players are the best available, get them!

May is practically Victorian and joined us. Same goes for Dunstan and Grundy

Spargo and Turner come from an area that feeds to Melbourne far more than Sydney, they were probably born in the Wodonga hospital. Ben Brown and AMW have no teams to go too!

SA players don’t go home from Victoria all that often if things are going well. North really botched it with JHF and the crows have spent huge money getting some big recruits, but otherwise they aren’t flooding back.

We’ve been a victim of circumstance with Hogan and Jacko. It’s worth evaluating and possibly avoiding Perth city kids with tight knit families. The Northern clubs have to do that with Victorian players. But it’s a risk/reward evaluation and circumstances shouldn’t conspire against us as often as they have with Hoges and Jacko.

Dawson, JHF and Rankine all gone back to SA in the past 2 years.  I'd say it's no different to WA just that we were unlucky and notice the WA one more.

There are more Vic's that move home but also more Vic's in the comp too.

It's a nothing subject really, and player movement is only going to become more and more!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
