Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I realise there may be a few more possible delistings.

But from my understanding these will be the following jumper numbers available for any players drafted or traded in for next year's season in 2023.

It will also be interesting what jumper number Brodie Grundy may end up receiving at the Demons?

The following jumper numbers available for season 2023 are...

#2 - Nathan Jones retired in 2021 and the number was left retired for season 2022.

#6 - Luke Jackson is going back to his home state of WA to play for either Fremantle or West Coast.

#12 - Toby Bedford requested a trade to GWS.

#19 - Fraser Rosman has been delisted.

#28 - Majak Daw has retired.

#29 - Jayden Hunt has been picked up by West Coast as a free agent.

#38 - Mitch Brown has retired.

Anyway, that leaves at least 7 available jumper numbers for next year.

Personally, I think Brodie Grundy will be given either number #6 or number #2 but number #12 might be an option too.

Anyway, we will have to wait until about December or even January 2023 to find out who will be given which jumper number.

No. 29 will never be the same 😢

Except yes it will because Eden Zanker wears no. 29. 😍 don’t ever leave us, Edo!

And I won’t have to rename my chook. JH is still apt since they’re Harmesy’s initials too.

Try facing this to inform of a forced name change…

Oi that’s me on a good day! In fact that’s me after hair and makeup professionally done for the B&F. I thought I looked rather fetching. 🤭

So long as no current MFC player changes jumper number, which is the most ridiculous thing football players and clubs do.

The only time I don't mind it is if they are coming down from something like 47 to inside the first 20. Th idea of changing numbers to 'reinvigorate' careers used to seem really strange to me.

Nah I can't get around it, ever.

If you come to the club and get 47, make it yours.

Geelong's premiership 22 had O'Connor in 42, Stewart in 44, Close in 45 and Blicavs in 46. None of them have felt compelled to "move down" to a "better" number.

Then the comps best midfield is sequentially numbered.

10  Brayshaw

Trac to be half forward and jack goes wherever the danger is.

I love the synergy of this.

The (1)1-(1)2 punch gets my vote.

Liam Jurrah was twice the player wearing #48 than he was in #24 🙄

BBB was a premiership FF in #50

Grundy takes #6, Pick 13 takes #12, Hunter grabs #19, Schache takes #28 (Omac's old number) and Pick 37 takes #38. Jones #2 takes one more year of absence and we give it to one of our 2 first round selections the following year in what is touted to be a super draft!

****UPDATE****

#26 - Sam Weideman has now been traded to Essendon.

I really like some of the suggestions for jumper number changes.

I also understand the argument of making a number "your own" too. Ben Brown has certainly made number #50 his own and I like that.

Each to their own I guess? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I am not against the idea of giving Joel Smith his Father's (Shaun Smith) number #29 jumper if he wants it? I feel number #44 hasn't brought Joel much luck, due to injuries, and a change of number might do him good? But only if he wishes to do so and it doesn't put too much pressure on him?

I do think jumper number #2 should be reserved for an extra special player though. It has a lot of history attached to that sacred number with Robbie Flower, Stephen Tingay and Nathan Jones having worn it.

Nevertheless, it's always fun to speculate and see who gets their suggestions correct. 😉

Not forgetting the dual premiership player, the great Alan Rowarth. Only 70 games because of injury, but a great Demon with a 70% win rate. Thanks Alan.

I get the romantic notion of your suggestion but, seriously, how could a change of number possibly make the slightest bit of difference to a player's form or luck with injuries?

What constitutes a “good” number? Serious question.

How do we know who will become an “extra special player”????

The jumper number, while special in the heart of the individual player, is otherwise meaningless.

That said, if I had my way #29 would never be issued to anyone ever again. 😭

In fact, every other club would be forbidden from giving their #29 to a player. Ever. 🙃

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
