Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What's the point of this? May as well have just hung on to Weid, Schache is basically the same player but with less physicality. I don't get it. I don't see him getting much time in the seniors at all.

According to Tim lamb it came about because the Weid requested a trade and the club decided to grant his wish. Fair enough I reckon. The Weid deserved a fresh start.

it’s just a low cost, like for like depth acquisition.

Holy lord.

Go to YouTube and have a look at 3 or so highlight packages. Not a single contested mark or strong body work lol. He came cheap as chips so who cares, but Jesus this guy is terrible.

Maybe he's just got excellent positioning and can get to open spaces where the defenders aint? 🤔

Yep we are not Fremantle. We don’t deny our players trades only to grant them late for low return.

Weideman deserved a fresh start and I’m glad we gave it to him. I think we got a good return in pick 37 and a cheap backup tall option which we really needed.
It’s a win win and I wish Weideman all the best.

This is just Tim Lamb’s gift to all of you who were all primed to be outraged about the Grundy trade and now need an outlet, as that one unexpectedly (in your minds) went good. Some people just always need to be furious and critical about something.

I’m not one of them. Welcome Josh. Hope you are able to turn things around at the MFC.

TBF, most of us would have been more outraged if we let Weid go and didn't have a direct replacement.

Schache potentially has more strings to his bow because he has played as a KPD. Unless we get a mature aged ruckman in the rookie draft, I'd say that Schache will be our starting ruckman at Casey, which is where Weid finished.

Schache's acquisition makes perfect sense, but isn't likely to be a game changer either way.

Can't really fault Lamb or the FD on the way they do things. As mo64 said we would have been outraged if we let Weid go and didn't bolster our stocks with the best available but we did that. This is the closest we'll get to list management thinking along the same lines as fans!

Reading some of the nasty comments on this thread would make Schach ill.

Yeah, a lot of petty personal insults.  Disgraceful.

Many of the insults are from absolute nuffies, who just don't rate anyone outside the stars of the competition.

He will play senior footy for us next year and will do some good/great things for us.

Similar to those whacking Hunter because he had some issues when breaking up with a partner and went off the rails.  He will be regular 22 and probably in our top 5 for B&F.

Looking forward to seeing what both can offer us!

Stop relentlessly bashing strangers.  It honestly reflects more on you than anything or anyone else....i am talking about a LOT of you :P

I agree he will be a useful player and we will need him to play his role when required, he did play a full finals campaign including a Grand Final in 2021 so he's got exposed form at the very highest level. Not everyone is a superstar/champion.

I think he’s an upgrade on Weid. He reads the play better (can also go down back), he’s a much better set shot and a longer kick.

Tmac

JvR

Schache

That’s my starting tall forwards (Ben Brown is done in my opinion)

Shache was involved in one of the most significant sliding doors moments of our grand final win and after about 40 viewings of the replay I’m still at a loss to understand how he wasn’t paid a free kick for a high tackle in front of goal when Angus attempted a spoil that seemed so obviously imperfectly executed.

Have no idea if this will come to fruition or even come out in the media and I put it down to pure speculation.

Was just having coffee with a few mates who I hadn't seen for a while and one of them is heavily involved with the Murray Bushrangers under 18's as a development coach.

We were speaking about the junior talent and then got talking about this year's trade period.

Out of the blue he mentioned that apparently we've shown some interest in Josh Schache and have had chats to Josh and his management?

I would like to think I can trust his word purely that he's got contacts within recruiting circles and Josh being an ex bushie.

I have own opinion on this and I honestly don't think it's the right fit even though we're lacking a key forward.

Our interest in Josh has been fulfilled. He must feel highly motivated for the rest of his career - and we have to support him in that journey, develop him to our ethos and culture, then allow him to work his game to our needs.

This sort of recruitment rarely turns out anything more than neutral in impact to a club. The feeling is that most people consider that it’s doomed to failure and that Shache will be around for a couple of seasons and get delisted.

At the heart of it, we have a player who seven years ago won the Larke Medal for b & f in the National Under 18 Championships and was considered good enough to be pick 2 at the draft at the end of the year i.e. close to the 2015 version of Aaron Cadman who has half of the football world salivating today.

The question is whether the club will take the time to unpack why he’s now at his third club and whether he can be mentored to iron out the faults he had when drafted or subsequently picked up along the way to improve him as a footballer.  Otherwise, he languishes at Casey and perhaps plays a dozen games of AFL in 2023/4 and then disappears off the scene.

My concern is that we have spent the same time trying to get Weid to the level required and failed - not saying it can't happen and both might surprise all their doubters - let's hope Josh can

Like Weid, he looks like he lacks real vigor and aggression or confidence - does have some ability clearly but sometimes that is just simply not enough

His highlights look good but every recruits highlights always look good to sell the product to the buyer.

Hopefully he will be the player he was touted to be in the 2015 draft year?

If he experts are correct talls take longer to mature and hit their peak around 25-26?

Got the following insight from a mate who is a lifelong Bulldogs supporter.

“Schache under the right coach could be better than both McDonald and Brown as a tall marking forward option. Matthew Lloyd reckons he has the best set shot kicking action of anyone he coached at the AIS.
Schache was kicking bags of goals in VFL ( 6 & 8 goal games) at the end of 2022 season.
But Bevo only played him sporadically in 2022 and mostly as an intercept marking back (he was quite good) and backup ruck (also quite good) but rarely gave him a chance as a key forward. Like most tall players, Schache is a late developer but a valuable  pick up for the Dees.”

I think he has the attributes we need ... but does and will require transformational skilling through astute development and coaching - plus, I suspect, a good deal on support/encouragement on and off the field from his new (and great) teammates. He has come to the correct team to make these adjustments.

I think all of our draft trades provide us with an upgrade on the players we lost, we will be a better team next year for it. Schache and hunter could do very well with the new start and team to support them. Looking forward to next season, we are still within the premiership window all of our players, old and new need to give there best to help us to another premiership or two. hopefully our coach will also step up and not be afraid of making changes either to the side, or where players are on the field.

'Footywire' which is usually fairly accurate is showing a one year contract for Schache.

It surprises me as when a player changes club it is usually for a minimum of 2 years.

If it is one year it really gives Schache a strong message to decide how much he wants a football career.

I'll update the Contracts Thread for Schache.  If anyone sees any other info on his contract please let me know.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
