Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why would he do that? There would have to be extra $s for the extra years.

because if he doesnt do that he'll be out of the system in two years having wasted his time playing vfl

That doesn't make sense. Why would we want him for 4 years if that's the case?

if bowes is on 800k a year for 2 more years, surely we can say ok make it 400k 4 years and we'll do it. we can definitely fit that into the cap surely

GCS would def thought of that. And it would be the first thought in every club recruiter's mind

I'm wondering if the kid's body is shot or he's just not a best 22. Backended contract, maybe $1.6mill over final two years. Could be a simple as a club paying a lot money to buy pick 7 (which will end up being be at least 8) and have one list spot filled with a NQR Bowes

no he'd be stuck at the suns still and whilst he probably plays games next year they clearly prioritise weller/budarick/powell for whatever reasons probably some being the fact they're on less coin and also probably because they havent expressed they wanna play as midfielders like apparently bowes has

the suns see bowes as an asset they have plenty of and he's a player who will have suitors therefore they're prepared to offer his money out rather than smoothing it while other players who have less to offer other clubs or who they have less similar types to on their list they will smooth out. i think his body is fine he's only 24 he's only had one injury interrupted year and that was this year iirc

some talk that cats are going to get bowes and pick 7

so that'd be...

IN: pick 7, bowes, bruhn, henry
OUT: late first and second round picks

handy!

I’d hope Collingwood and GWS hold out for better picks, threaten to send at least one of those guys to North.

I doubt they’re getting pick 7 straight up regardless but somethings really fishy if the Cats find the room needed for Bowes. Might be the move that forces the AFL to finally dig in to that magical salary cap

So these interested clubs will offer him more total money over more years. There's no way he takes the same money over more years.

For starters, I'd like to know who paid for the hobby farms that Cameron, Hawkins and Stanley own just outside of Geelong city

But does anyone seriously think that the AFL want another SC debacle? They are too busy furiously sweeping the Hawthorn racism disclosure under the carpet. Transparency and accountability are looooooow on the AFLs priority list

Ralphy tonight on OTC said Bowes was on about $550k for last 2 years of his contract.

Riewoldt asked if pick 7 was part of the deal and Ralphy said yes. He then said the Saints were not interested and Reiwoldt was furious.

If the deal is basically Bowes with pick 7 , to take over his contract and maybe a late pick back, I will also be furious.

How else, if we are not near the bottom and don't want to trade a star Dee, will we get a pick 7?

It is basically trading 29 year old Tomlinson for 24 year old Bowes and pick 7. Anyone on here against that?

It’s been so long since Geel has been at the pointy end of the draft that they probably wouldn’t know what to do with pick 7… probably arrive late and miss the call

Seems too good to be true. Perhaps Bowes has his issues?

It depends if we have other targets. But taking on a NQR just to get pick 7 is essentially taking on a list clogger and hoping you hit pick 7. It's a brave new world, I guess.

You think Bowes is a list clogger?

Let me suggest this: we let Hibbo at 33 in probably his last year go and replace him with Bowes at 24, plus one of the 7 best young players in the country.

Bowes is younger, taller and a better user of the ball than Hibbo.

If it meant having Bowes for one more year than Hibbo, to have pick 7, who could be a 12 year player for us, would you say no?

If Baker, Tomlinson and maybe even Melk went, you would be a mile ahead on salary cap room and have a player who is ahead of all of them and a possible, young, future good player as a bonus, from the draft.

I don't know enough about Bowes to say one way or the other.

But Hibbo for Bowes is not really an apt comparison as they don't play the same position.

The better comparison is Baker though and I'd be happy to get pick 7 and exchange Bowes for Baker without knowing anything about him.

The only question remains is how much salary cap space do we have?

If bringing Bowes in impacted us getting, say, Naughton, I'd be against it.

Jackson to Fremantle.

Fremantle send Pick 13 to Filth and future 2nd Round Pick to Gold Coast.

Collingwood send Grundy to Melbourne.

Gold Coast send Bowes and Pick 7 to Melbourne with Freo picking up a large portion of Bowes contract.

Dees get Bowes, Grundy and Pick 7 for Jackson

Gold Coast get a future 2nd Round Pick and cap relief for Bowes and Pick 7.

Filth get Pick 13 for Grundy.

Freo get Jackson for Pick 13, Future 2nd Rounder and taking on part of Bowes contract?

If the Traloar deal is anything to go by we won’t have to trade much for Grundy

I’m not against it Red, but how do convince Bowes to come to us when his wish is to play midfield and how do you get Tomo to agree to move interstate again?

Deals like this are done months in advance, we aren’t getting Pick 7 which is all anyone really wants out of this deal.

Heard yesterday on trade radio that it was around the 850k mark for next year (wasn’t said about final year but assuming it’s similar). Some very intriguing contracts at the suns, but imo to keep players, they did what they had to.

No Tomo goes to Dogs. In other words salary is swapped and we get younger player and 7.

I don’t think this deal was done months ago, as he is contracted and Suns just came up with the idea, but yes, you have to convince Bowes to come to you. Well someone is going to.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
