Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jayden Hunt

I'll be sad to see him go. Perhaps this is why there's been no announcement yet on Baker. If Hunty does go, I have a feeling Melbourne would be keen to use Baker in Hunts role and can play Wing/Half back. I watched a few Casey games this year, and a few commentators and game day staff said Melbourne were happy with Baker's development, which I found odd as he has barely played any games for us. I thought he was a certainty to be delisted.

Hunt should play as a pressure forward ahead of ANB

Probably doesnt have the tank to do what ANB does, but that can change with hard work. Does he have it in him? maybe he doesnt.

I do remember him being rather crafty in front of goal. We need pace in our forward line. Hunt, Kozzy, Spargo is a lot faster than ANB, Kozzy Spargo.

I'll now compile the footage of all of his turnovers and blunders which cost goals.

Please give me 12-16 hours.

Playing 40 of 49 games across the past two years, including missing games through injury in late 2021, suggests Jayden is clearly a best 22 player. Our VFL depth is so poor, we can't afford to be losing best 22 players for nothing, as there are no replacements coming through. I really hope we make him a decent offer and he chooses to stay. I would hate to be relying on a 33 year old Hibberd or a brittle Smith to be playing many games next year, and I'm not sure we can afford to have Bowey in that role long term.

This is just factually incorrect. We have THE strongest VFL team in the competition by a significant margin, they only lost one game for the year. I'm certainly not in a hurry to lose Hunt, he has a significant point of difference for us but we have depth in most areas bar key position forward, we are pretty well stoked for small to medium defenders. You can't always pay everyone what they want and sometimes other clubs value your players more highly than you either do or can afford to match. this won't be the last one like this if we stay in the premiership window for a while.

I don't think we used Hunt correctly in the past couple years. He was made to play more lockdown and we rarely saw him get to use his place in an attacking way.

Agreed.

I seriously doubt Hunt was drafted with the future view of taking on the Tom Papley's of the league.

I don't think the lockdown role suited him as opposed to Hibberd who was born to play that role (albeit not well in the Brisbane semi)

I've always rated Jayden Hunt when he plays forward.

There's been a few games where he's kicked 3 or so goals playing either half-forward flank or forward pocket. I remember against Essendon twice he kicked a few goals. He also kicked that massive torpedo goal against Adelaide that time in Darwin.

While his pace is a weapon, I tend to agree with others that he often fumbles and turns the ball over too much in the back line. At AFL level you definitely cannot risk too many turnovers in defence and Jayden Hunt is sadly a culprit of this.

If we lose him to West Coast then so be it. I would rather play Jake Bowey in defence as at least you can trust his elite kicking.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents on Jayden Hunt.

Poita has made another sweeping statement. He fails to realise that depth is not the same standard as the first picked player in a position.

In a halfback flank which is Jaydens position Poita has just written off an aging AA, a very youthful Rising Star and a yes injury prone X factor player with considerable footy and athletic skills.

He has also hurled a brick at our breakaway VFL Casey Demons Premiership team. Neither Bowey or Hibbo qualified ( too good ie too many senior games ) and Smithy saluted due to injury under the guidelines for the Finals.

The backline included Turner considered a definite prospect for 2023 AFL Buntine a 70 game AFL GWS defender in their Finals  years, Smithy, and a rookie on our list Judd McVee. Plus our 4thbest defender in Adam Tomlinson.

We have the least total points in H and Away in 2021 ( 3 AA) and 2022 ( 2 AA with another 2 near AA defenders injured for much of 2022.

Casey Dees had the tightest backline in the VFL so we have no depth!!!

Hate to be in another team like Dogs or Tigers who had leakage issues all year.

We don't know how lucky we are but We don't want to lose a best or near best 22 player at any time.

Hunty has played some good footy over the 2 years but is under pressure as he is generally selected as the 6th or 7th defender.

But to say we have no depth is both incorrect and totally misleading on results over the last 2 years where we have maintained the benchmark for defence in the AFL.

Just to demonstrate how little run and carry Hunt gave us this year (at the direction of the coaches I'm sure) he had 6 running bounces for the whole year!   6!

Spargo leads the way for us with an astounding 8 bounces.  Man we were a tough watch this year

I'll try to find some more depressing stats for y'all

Bouncing the ball is misunderstood. The fastest movement comes from disposing of the ball, not running with it. Bouncing is often used when the players are stalling for time waiting for someone up the ground to move to a better position. Ergo, bouncing the ball is not necessarily an indicator of fast movement.

The ability to run, carry and bounce is quite important in getting the ball past opposition teams defensive zones - these skills are something that JH has - not saying he is faultless but I like what he brings and would prefer he stays

Agreed. His goal kicking accuracy from 45+ metres was his point of difference and he also managed a very impressive 31.12 between 2019 and 2020 with regards to accuracy.

Will always be remembered for nailing that game winning set shot from outside 50 against Carlton in 2019.

West Coast should think about playing him at times as a forward and certainly away from the lock down small defender role.

For ball movement true. But it is a good indicator of run and carry from a half back. Saad had 113 bounces this year

It's interesting that Saad had 113 bounces and our most was apparently Spargo with 8. That disparity suggests to me that whether to bounce or not is a gameplan decision, not a question of personnel.

To back that comment up with what I observed, it seemed to me that when our players took running bounces they seemed to then be in the wrong position to find the next target.

Not if we offered him a Contract, which doesn't appear to be the case. Would much rather keep, definately!

I believe Hunt enjoyed his time in WA after the grand final last year. Maybe his desire to leave is as much about a change of scenery as cash or footy reasons.

The travel wouldn’t be great but that means a number of games in Victoria a year. And the payoff is new golf courses, great beaches, good weather. He’s hardly going to be under huge pressure to perform or stalked in the streets.

saad bounces the ball the minute he gets possession

i find it hilarious when carltank supporters go 'woof' about his kicking when the majority go 35m up in the air, 45m downfield, and more often than not result in a turnover

The choice is simple would you prefer Jake Bowey playing half back or Jayden Hunt. For me it ain't even close.

Bowey👍...  Hunt👎

Bowey = Future.

Hunt = Gap Fill.

Hunt is No Defender, One on One he's not suited for but if he played forward of centre, could be beneficial. If it's Bowey or Hunt, personally, give me Jake over Jayden. A Good kick beats a Good Runner.

FFS keep him! He would have played in the premiership if he hasn’t got injured . He’s had a very good season. His pace is unique. Used correctly he add immense half back edge and attack.  He plays with passion and huge physical commitment. We’ve nurtured and trained him . Don’t throw that away.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
