Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It’s about freeing up cap space and at the start of the year, he was unfortunately one of the players in the group that were potentially going to be let go.

Interesting. I have heard it rumoured we're looking at the draft more the next two years, partly to accommodate contracts, but wouldn't have thought Hunt's next deal would be any type of amount that would have much of an impact overall.

You're far too wholesome for this place WCW.

But he ain't quick. (Spargo)

His brain is and that’s worth more than pace and a rare commodity.

I think Jayden has left NOT because of money and contract length but because Goody and the footy department have said he wont play much senior footy next year. WCE on the other hand have offered him a regular AFL spot. It’s probably combined with more money and a longer contract but Jayden will want to play senior footy.

In summary it’s all three things but the primary reason is he wants to play AFL footy.

We can only speculate on ‘why’ but he had done great moments playing for us. I’m just going to remember him blasting out of defence with Langers using the old give and get. I’ll also always remember that 70 meter torp for a goal against Adelaide.

Hee always seemed like a pretty relaxed, good guy. I wish him so the best at WC with the usual caveat - not against us

Players like Spargo need to stop flapping their arms, and get to the fall of the ball. Plus kicking to a stationary target can be easily intercepted. Kicking to a leading target is the higher percentage play.

I've watched the 2021 GF probably 50 times, and the most inexcusable bit of play was at the start of the last qtr. Sparrow rightfully ignored Spargo's lead into the pocket, and kicked it to BBB at the top of the square. Spargo had a dummy spit instead of running to the fall of the ball, should BBB have dropped the mark.

Spargo gets way to many credits for his 1 or 2 30 metre passes a game.

I suppose if we had better players for his position than Spargo, they would be playing instead of him.

To be honest I couldn’t care less & even a pick in the 50s would probably land us someone better than him. Never rated him & clubs only get better by moving on the bottom tier blokes each year. I see him purely as depth but think we have enough to cover him , as there are 100s of players of his calibre. Yep he’s quick, but who cares when you only touch the ball 1 times a game & then burn 30% of them or get caught holding it. The supposed strength of his is speed, yet for the life of me I can’t understand how if that’s his strength then he can only get the call 10 times a game. This says he has no footy IQ, can’t read the play or the ball, which is useless.

Yep people will bag me & defend him, but you don’t have a leg to stand on as clearly  the club didn’t rate him & or want him & I’ll back our FD over anyone on here.

I’m not my happy about this move at all. Yes he’s not in our best, but he had what most players didn’t and that was raw pace.

What he had was the ability to find very little of the ball & then burn the very few pozzies he got.

About time the club got ruthless, we failed miserably this year & the only way you get better is by moving dead wood.

You have a truly bizarre taste in footballers. You like a guy that gets it 10 times and can run quickly, but you don't like a guy that gets in 10 times and is an elite kick.

I reckon about the only one you've got right, PF, is Clarry, and Blind Freddy would have got that one.

Agreed. All everyone mentions is speed. I couldn’t care if he was Aussie Bolt, he has 0 ability outside of his speed. His amazing speed only  gets him to a pathetic 10 stats a game which he burns. How can you be quick but not win more possessions  or get to more contests? It means he either tums to the wrong spots or then isn’t good enough to win the ball. Clear the list, free up some money & pick any one of 100 blokes in the draft.

Sensible decision on where he sits on our list and has own long term security.  Like the guy and his run, but his decision making and skills at times let him down.  WC want speed as they are sorely lacking it with their current group.

Good luck to him except when he pays us.

I really enjoyed watching Jayden play and there was always a spark of excitement when he took off on a run or teamed with Lingers with linking handballs up the wing.  I'll miss him in red and blue and wish him all the best in the west.

But I think it's the right decision by the club. I think the club has decided that Jayden is not the lock-down defender we need and are going forward with Hibbo and Joel Smith sharing the role over the next two years, with Joel Smith re-contracted with an increased offer over that period to ward off Sydney.  Hibbo and Joel will both be cheaper and shorter than Jayden's offer at West Coast.

We need to free list spots and salary cap over the next two years and we have a set of fringe players that we don't want to contract beyond that period. Those looking for value in the compensation pick - likely to be 3rd round 51 - will be disappointed but that's not the goal.

Without wanting to stoop to this level, I will. Spargo is an assist king. It would be better if he also improved his goal kicking return, but it's not a fair comparison on the goals front, because what defensive pressure, gut running and safety of ball use is Spargo bringing that Hunt didn't in the same position?

Thats about it.  He can be a front and centre player , as in the Round 23 2021 game at the cattery, but thats not his value. That's Kozzie and ANB's job mainly.

He needs to do more for sure but something good usually happens WHEN he gets the ball.

But I love jayden Hunt and he brings great competitivenss to the club, and is good overhead which many don't acknowledge.  But sadly Bowey and others are the future. I hope he makes mega bucks at the eagles and has a good backend to his career. I'll never boo him either.

What is 'historical negationism' about it.

It was written six years ago!!  In 2016, the year he made his debut and played 19 of 22 games.

Serious question Picket, I can't get to a lot of games live. So what do you make of comments along the line of, He's often in good position but gets ignored ?

I like him and I’m sorry to see him go if that pans out. I loved the hair/headband/sleeves combo he had going with Langdon. I was going to suggest that’s the end of BT, Derwayne and co mixing them up, but I’m willing to bet some overpaid nuffie in the commentary box still calls Lingers “Hunt” at least once in 2023. I was really hoping he’d get the chance for the 2022 flag to atone for his disappointment in 2021.

As others have said though, I think the decision makes sense for both parties. All the best Jayden.

You should have burst in to tears and said it was because you’d heard he was going and see how he reacted. Probably would have been pretty awkward and embarrassing for both you and Jayden, but it would have been pretty entertaining for anyone witnessing it. 😁

Too soon?

Your evaluation of Hunt is way off the mark which is evidenced by the fact WCE have offered him a three year deal and apparently 3 other clubs asked about him.  If he was as poor as you suggest he'd attract no interest, but in fact the opposite is true.

Jayden is a competent AFL footballer but is worth more to others than us.  Why you have to denigrate someone who has played over 100 games for us and given his all is beyond me and says more about you than perhaps you want us to see.

I don’t care what you or others see, I’m not afraid what others are of saying. I say it as it is & don’t care if a player plays for us as I’m not sentimental on players. I don’t have favourite plays or care who comes & goes, it’s about winning. The whole attitude of loving an average player is the reason we were the worst sporting club in the country for over half a century, but that should be over now. I’m not denying he played AFL or 100 games, but majority of those were while we were pathetic to be honest. I also acknowledge that another club took him, but be realistic that club list is one of the worst seen in the modern area so it’s not saying much. I mean I didn’t hear Geelong, Swans, Pies chasing him, just junk clubs that are desperate. We clearly didn’t want him so I’m on the winning side of this conversation because he ain’t a Dees player anymore, which I’m happy with.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
