Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You have a truly bizarre taste in footballers. You like a guy that gets it 10 times and can run quickly, but you don't like a guy that gets in 10 times and is an elite kick.

I reckon about the only one you've got right, PF, is Clarry, and Blind Freddy would have got that one.

Give me a quicky ANYDAY!

It’s about freeing up cap space and at the start of the year, he was unfortunately one of the players in the group that were potentially going to be let go.

Yup. I think that the Hunt departure and the nonchalance about Tomlinson exploring his options, given we won't offer him another contract, are more about to do with the future Pickett offer, and not about bringing in Grundy + another trade target on 600-800k a year. Although I'm sure we could be willing to backend something if someone we wanted was to openly ask for a trade to us in the next few weeks.

I think Brayshaw's move to the backline sealed Hunt's fate going into 2023. Gus was in AA form and most likely would of been awarded the AA if he hadn't moved back into the midfield. Our 3 tall key defenders are a lock in May, Lever and Petty and add to that Salem, Hibberd, Brayshaw with the 7th defender being one of Bowey or Rivers, it's hard to see Hunt playing ahead of any of those guys.

I could be wrong, but this is maybe why Baker might sign on for another year on a low wage of around $200k who has similar abilities. Whereas Hunt would command around $350-$450k if he left Melbourne and this would be Hunt's last big contract for his career so it's a win win for both. Hunt leaves on a bigger and longer contract, while Melbourne free's up cap space of around $200k.

Sad to see him go, but understand. If both Salem and Bowie get back to their best, not sure there's a place for him. Also, OK to have speed, but he was never a great one-on-one defender, which is what we perhaps need more than anything else.

Still a bit of a hole down back since Neville Jetta left us.

Jetta was a clamp. Underrated and unique player that bucked the trend. Every indigenous footballer has been described, for better or worse, stereotypically as either "magic" or "explosive". And yet he was the neither, a stable and ultra competitive lock down defender that beat the best small forwards in the game regularly. Perhaps if he'd played at that level for the first half of his career, he'd be more highly regarded? But also just the nature of his position means he goes under the Radar🤷‍♂️

Back Pocket respect.

Summed up well.

Can anyone say if Jayden was offered a deal by the Dees, or is it a case of him leaving because the deal if offered was too low, or no future commitments to getting into best 22??

Lowball over from the club so had no option, more money and longer contract at the Weagles

Is that a fact?  Or are you just kicking a kid when he is reluctantly leaving?

It’s amazing how chuffed the Eagles fans are with recruiting him. I don’t think he has ever been particularly highly regarded by opposition fans, but he is a superstar all of a sudden if you read social media. I really like Hunt, but he has serious limitations, they revolve around decision making and ball use. He was a very late bloomer and wasn’t really rated at Brighton Grammar, until his senior year. His pace set him apart, but he just lacked a little footy nous

You realise he was taken at pick #57?

Why can't we be gracious and appreciate his time in our beloved red and blue.  For mine he will be my favourite opp player!

Hope it all goes well for you, Jayden.  Will miss you, your flair and your feistiness!.

Most players in Hunt's position would take the security of a better financial offer, when your current club doesn't show you any love.

I agree with Picket, and Hunt should have been given an opportunity on the wing or up forward. Let's compare Hunt (the ball butcher) to Spargo (elite kick) when both were played up forward.

Spargo 2021/2022 49 games 28 goals 28 behinds

Hunt     2019            21 games 21 goals 10 behinds

Hunt's pace could have been utilised to apply forward defensive pressure, rather than go-slow Spargo.

Spargo will need to improve, but he brings a few excellent attributes to his role, and he ain't slow!

One of the problems is players like Spargo make space, flap their arms and yell for the pass and then are totally ignored.

It is clearly better according to our coach, to bomb it long to the outnumbered contest and ignore players making space.

Hunt was a very good contributor since he was drafted. He gave his all for the club and will be missed by many. One of the few players in our team that would get the crowd buzzing when he’d go on one of his runs.

Without wanting to stoop to this level, I will. Spargo is an assist king. It would be better if he also improved his goal kicking return, but it's not a fair comparison on the goals front, because what defensive pressure, gut running and safety of ball use is Spargo bringing that Hunt didn't in the same position?

Players like Spargo need to stop flapping their arms, and get to the fall of the ball. Plus kicking to a stationary target can be easily intercepted. Kicking to a leading target is the higher percentage play.

I've watched the 2021 GF probably 50 times, and the most inexcusable bit of play was at the start of the last qtr. Sparrow rightfully ignored Spargo's lead into the pocket, and kicked it to BBB at the top of the square. Spargo had a dummy spit instead of running to the fall of the ball, should BBB have dropped the mark.

Spargo gets way to many credits for his 1 or 2 30 metre passes a game.

And yet Spargo always polls well in coaches awards and is continually selected, so perhaps plan A is not to bomb it long to the outnumber and ignore him?

Spargo led the league with the highest % of kicks to marks inside 50. This in a team where we go on about how poor we are at our inside 50 connection. The thing Charlie needs to improve is how he gets the ball more and continue to improve his defensive aspects.

And converting his shots inside 50 into goals.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
