    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We actually did offer him a contract earlier in the year which he decided not to sign.  Now, we have other priorities.

Would love some insight into why he decided not to sign 🙏

I'd trust Demons 11, who has a good track record of mfc info, a lot more than anything reported in the media.

I'd be sad to loose Hunt.  Rode out and survived some of the hard times at the club and sadly missed out on 2021 by getting injured just at the wrong time.  Seems like a genuine and likable character around the club, totally without any obnoxious excess ego.

I do rate his abilities as a footballer, but I feel that neither the MFC or Jayden have ever quite extracted his full capabilities on a consistent basis.  Having said that, no team has 100% superstars 100% of the time, but I thought Jayden usually played with good effort, courage and toughness for a guy of his build.  Had a bad start to 2022, but battled hard to win his way back into the team in the later part of the season.  His last quarter against Carlton this year was an absolute ripper and showed what he can be at his best taking on the game with pace and dare.

It would be somewhat odd for a guy that's battled his whole career at a struggling club on the rise that's now at the pointy end of the league to go backwards to a cellar dweller.  I guess he must have his own reasons and motivations, which is fair enough.  Would rather he stayed, but respect Jayden wherever this may land.

The choice is simple would you prefer Jake Bowey playing half back or Jayden Hunt. For me it ain't even close.

Bowey👍...  Hunt👎

Bowey = Future.

Hunt = Gap Fill.

Hunt is No Defender, One on One he's not suited for but if he played forward of centre, could be beneficial. If it's Bowey or Hunt, personally, give me Jake over Jayden. A Good kick beats a Good Runner.

While I agree with the last line, let's not forget there are a few other skills that players need to have. For example, Hunt is bigger and stronger than Bowey and has shown a greater capability to take a contested mark. I'm not arguing that Hunt is necessarily better than Bowey, or vice versa, but if we only looked at one particular weapon in the arsenal, it would be like arguing we should keep Sam Weideman over Clayton Oliver because Weideman is a better tap ruckman.

FFS keep him! He would have played in the premiership if he hasn’t got injured . He’s had a very good season. His pace is unique. Used correctly he add immense half back edge and attack.  He plays with passion and huge physical commitment. We’ve nurtured and trained him . Don’t throw that away.

He was available for the GF. Was not selected.

He played every game up to round 22 and got injured. However despite being finally fit for the GF, it was clear that MFC and Goody weren’t going to change the team through a winning finals campaign.

I know.  But if it was a player that was a first 18 lock, he would have been brought in, eg, Salem.

It was this decision that has lead to him wanting to leave imo.  He has worked his [censored] off for years and in 2021 played a very good season only to not be selected.  terrible luck getting injured late but he would still have been devastated.  Can we really ask him to go hard again and again know that if we make a GF he is probably a 50-50 chance of playing?

I reckon he was stiff and deserved to be selected.  Deserved a spot in the 22 over Bowey for example (harsh on Bowey I know).  almost played every game and was a big part of why we finished top

You’re right Dub. I’m heartbroken at the thought of him leaving. My only consolation is that it’s not Essendon or Collingwood who’ll get him.
On the positive side though, I can still wear my guernsey with 29 on the back since my fave AFLW player is Eden Zanker, and she’s no. 29. 😁

I'm a big fan of Jayden and believe he's got enough flexibility in his game to have an impact up forward, on a wing, lock down small defender or a rebounding one.

Trouble is, he doesn't really play any of these roles that a high enough level to demand a spot in the 22 but still, he'd be in my team every week.

We do need to rejuvenate the list a little and bring in some more youth and hopefully unearth a couple gems.  Players like Hibbo and Melk will get us nothing and we'd be paying them scraps (no offence to them) where Jayden might snag us a 3rd rounder and save us $300k +/- to assist in the future.

It's a ruthless call offering peanuts to players and force there hand to go I can see why we're doing it.

yeah it is sad.  we won't see Langers and Hunt running down the wing together again!

Agree on Zanker, she is great and so young.  will dominate in a couple of years

Yeah, but I hate WC every bit as much (if not more) than those teams.  Only consolation is that WC are rubbish at present, but even the thought of Hunt making them more competitive makes me sick.  That's said, I'd happily see WC spend decades in mid tier ladder positions, never genuinely compeditive enough to play a meaningful role in finals, but not low enough to get good draft hands either.

I actually wish this for around 3/4 of the comp, so it's not a totally logical theory I know, but perhaps if most opposition teams cycle pepetually between later positions 6 and 18 and make bad calls trading low picks for duds our missing their low picks, maybe that would work.  Again, this is all pretty wishful thinking for WC as recient history suggests that they are well enough run that the don't stay down for long and asides from Hawthorn, I think they have consistently snagged more flags than any duration of their existence.

Although he wasn't top tier he was certainly on a tear last year and lost his job due to injury. It's brutal but it does happen and the ship sails on with or without you.

I try not to get too emotional when players leave becasue it is the club that comes first for me but this one will sting a little. Back when we were on our long road back to relevance it was guys like Jayden that got our younger fans excited and all watching headbands. I would still like to have him on our list and pushing for selection as we really don't have many players who offer what he does. It would be great to really try and play him to his strengths, how many times can you remember him going on a good run and carry? Not that many. I guess in a system based team it makes it hard for players to have that 'free role' where they can go rogue and step outside the sqaure.

You can't make the same argument with Bowey versus Hunt and Weid versus Oliver due to the reasons you named. Bowey and Hunt play the same position where Weid and Oliver are totally different players in different positions. Besides I'd play Oliver as a Ruck before Weid anyway. Just wouldn't let him jump at the centre bounce. Wink wink Cough cough. Who would you prefer in the back 6, Bowey or Hunt.

    DEE-RUBBING by George on the Outer

    For the second week in a row, the Demons had to endure some particularly oppressive match conditions — this time, playing in 30 degree temperatures at the MCG, following the humid sticky Sydney atmosphere of last week.   The warmer conditions didn’t seem to worry the Dee’s since the ball was so much easier to handle, and handle it with surety they did in handing out a 45 point drubbing to the much fancied Western Bulldogs.   After a slow start that saw the Dogs out to

    CROSSING THE PICKETT LINE by The Oracle

    Melbourne’s performance in losing its Round Zero contest in Sydney has certainly caused the club, the coach and the players to come firmly under the watchful eye of the football world and exposed all of its aspects to a microscopic lens.   Much of the commentary surrounding them has been less than complimentary and, while some might argue that this is unfair after only one round, leaving aside some of the scuttlebutt that surrounds a lot of the discussion around the game, a fair amoun
