Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jayden Hunt

In the first Sydney loss, he got exposed in some 1v1's that really hurt our chances of winning. They are the kind if contests that decide finals. Think he may have been dropped coming off that.

Ultimately our mid/small defenders aren't great in the contest, which is why Hibberd should as is going around again. Neither Hunt nor Smith are good enough in 1v1's to help us win a final IMO, so if he leaves I don't see it hurting us if we make it into the finals next year.

Unlike most I'm in favour of Hunt leaving.  If he's "best 22" then it's only just best 22.  We have Bowey, Rivers, Hibbo and Salem who are all capable best 22 players to cover him and I have more faith in Smith than most.  Smith clearly has injury issues but I think at least he has significant upside which is far in excess of Hunt's.

With the WCE offer we'd have to pay a reasonable amount for a player who is not vital to our team and probably for a significantly longer period than we want to.  Not only that but Hunt has clear faults in his game which are not offset by his pace.

If we are to improve, we must look to improve our bottom 6 whilst also adding top end talent. Moving Hunt on just replenishes the list, provides opportunities and a career path to plays from Casey and helps our TPP situation.

Having said all that, I'll be disappointed to see him go and wish him the best in the west.

Has he Dub? I don't think several is accurate. I'm pretty sure he wasn't dropped once last year, it was the ankle injury that cost him games and was only dropped once this season.

Fair call out.

perhaps not selected rather than dropped is more accurate.  Was dropped in 2020 and not selected for many games. not selected for the GF in 2021 when fit, dropped this year.

That game our defence was a shambles. They had no Buddy, we had no May, Petty went off injured about 4 times, even Mitch Brown ended up in defence.

Hunt got caught goalside one on one with Papley  a couple of times and was beaten - but not many would win those. He should never have been the last line - that was the problem. While he played some good lockdown roles teams try to isolate him (like they do Lever who also isn't great one on one).

Our team defence was to blame in my view. It failed just as it did many times this year,

All the best for Hunty. He should make a few more $ out of this move - good because you don't play all that long so take it if its on offer.

Wonder whether we will move another player or 2 or 3 on and make a play for CG's pick 7 and Bowes. Add a year to his contract and average it to say $550 or $600k or less??

No doubt it will be considered but likely rejected. Would need Tomlinson to move on before it can even be considered.

Who is worth more Josh Dunkley or Luke Jackson? I am tipping Luke. Bullies want 2 1sts.

Who's Kozzy going to borrow a headband from now if he forgets to bring his gameday? Oh yeah, Naughton 🤭

Hopefully if Jayden goes he can donate all his headbands to Kozzy and not go the Lever approach aha

To reinforce,  HUNT played some very good footy this year. Did some excellent shut down work on small forwards with pace. Yes pace. Something that is lacking.

Remember Hunt was the key in the last 90 seconds v Blues with three key disposals.   Without that, we lose that one .

Who provides pace and run out of defence of through centre mid?  Anyone ??    Hibbo on last legs. Bowey and Salem are static , foot-pass types.  Riv went a little backwards. Deakyn Smith and a Mcvee are below par right now.

Hunt played 40 games across the last two seasons so clearly seen as part of the team, not just VFL fringe type.

I don’t subscribe that if he stays, we are only better with him playing reserves. He was a part of many of our good wins (We are better with more effective delivery and connection in forward 50!!)

Free agent compensation …Dees probably get a 3rd round as compensation and we’d unlikely use the pick.

Hunt probably gets at least 3 year deal at the Eagles and a “WE WANT YOU” discussion.  Hard to refuse.  Good luck to Jayden. He played good footy and deserved more.

I wonder if the FD see Woey's future as the role that Hunt has played and I also wonder if he's ready for senior footy at this early stage of his career.  What is his pace like, Casey watchers?

Woey needs 2023 at Casey. He’s still young and skinny. But very good upside. Good skills and smart. Suited to the wing.  Look for Woey in 2024 imv.

The Trouble with Jayden was mainly that no one knew where to play him. He has always been very good spare parts, and i say that with no disrespect

Sad to see him go, but we have good young talent at Casey that needs Senior Games

I always enjoyed watching Hunty play and he seems like a ripper bloke, but the fact is we have the following as medium defenders:

Salem, Hibberd, Rivers, Bowey, Joel Smith, Deakyn Smith and Judd McVee.

We can only pay so much in our salary cap, so if he is going to earn an extra $100k or whatever a year then good on him.

Not the sort of player likely to win you a game off his own boot, but sure has the potential to lose one

Would’ve lost to Carlton and missed top four without his input late in the game. He was the key driver for our inside 50 onslaught which gave us the win.

Hunt is a decent talent and we’ll miss his pace. Won’t be a huge loss as we have a ton of mid sized defenders, but we will miss his pace and attitude. He’s a good driver of culture with his positive attitude and willingness to do the team things. If he leaves I wish him the best of luck elsewhere. He was desperately unlucky not to play in our flag last year after losing his spot through injury late in our run.

I'd wish him nothing but the best if he leaves. Clearly we've put a deal in front of him that can't compete with WC, and that's fair enough as well. He's probably in the best 16-30 player bracket on our list and we've offered a contract to reflect that. He goes to WC and is probably within their best 10-15, so would be getting more $ and a longer contract at a guess.

He's given us 114 games and like all premiership teams you end up losing a few outside the best dozen or so players. Rich lost Ellis/Conca/Butler who were in a similar spot to Hunt, so it happens. I'm not liking those who rush to find faults in a good servants game when they've left for a better deal.

Just to demonstrate how little run and carry Hunt gave us this year (at the direction of the coaches I'm sure) he had 6 running bounces for the whole year!   6!

Spargo leads the way for us with an astounding 8 bounces.  Man we were a tough watch this year

I'll try to find some more depressing stats for y'all

Not super quick, but he covers the ground pretty well does Taj. Looks to have more pace than his old man did anyway.

I agree with others that wing is probably his best spot, but could see him doing a role in defence. He's pretty good over head.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
