Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't really care about the who, very much care about the when. No Wednesday or Thursday night games, and a bare minimum of Friday and Saturday night home games please. I'd be happy if Anzac Eve was our only home night game for the year.

Tend to agree. Would like a number of Saturday afternoon and early Sunday games next year as opposed to games every Friday and Saturday night - as good as they are for media exposure.

A good balance of games is what the members want I would’ve thought.

I’m sure we’ll get a number of night games in the first (announced) 15 rounds next year. But if we have an ordinary first half of the year, then we’ll have a number of day games to end of the year.

What else but 22 games at the MCG on Saturday afternoons.

I know we have not played well at the G recently but, after a few games, we should be able to find our mojo and start to dominate at home.

Anything else is detrimental to our chances.

More Saturday 2:10 games - did not have a single Saturday red ball game at the G this year (only Sunday 1:10 against the Saints).

Definitely this.

Plenty of prime again to give Club ability to maximise its sponsors

Sorry, I could hardly give a [censored] about how much prime time our sponsors get or don't.  If they get the ultimate prime time of Grand Final day and all the subsequent promotional opportunities that come from a premiership, they should be pretty happy with that.

Our supporters that have rocked up week in, week out for years deserve to be looked after more than a bunch of corporates that have been on the ride for just the last few and will jump off whenever it suits them.

Home games against Hawthorn and the Saints early in the season......before they fall off the cliff and their fans stop turning up.

And then an away game against them once they do, so we can thrash them in front of their 10 die hard supporters.  We owe Hawthorn that pleasure particularly.

Could be late to the party, been a bit of talk we could be up against Pies in the opening round.

Heard that one as well. Not sure if that’s people’s opinion because of the Grundy “grudge” match. Or if there’s some substance to it.

It would make for juicy round 1 game and a bogey of some sort for is to get over.

There’s also some speculation we’re off to Port in round 1.

Each team plays 5 teams (or maybe 6 with the 'magic' round) twice.  If a top 6 team the double up could include up to 3 of the other top 6.

The fixture will be less fair than usual as some sides will double up 5 times and some 6 times.  Some bottom half teams will get a very good tilt at the top 8 from an easy draw ala Collingwood and Carlton this year.

I'm always cynical when it comes to the fixture so wouldn't be surprised if we get hit with 3 double ups vs the top 6 teams while higher finishing clubs (Geelong, Collingwood, Lions and Sydney) get only two and/or get an extra double up vs a bottom half club.

Given that QB is our Home games we will most likely have a return match against Collingwood.

I reckon we will play a 'Home' game in SA in the 'magic round'.  7 -8 teams will so why not us!  😬  Unless it is declared an 'Away' game for all clubs🤔 so it won't affect membership rights.

Not looking forward to the fixture release☹️.

It’s irrelevant who is the home and who is the away side in terms of finances. Every club will get an even distribution from the weekend.

Melbourne will still get their 10 home games at the G and 1 NT home game assuming that arrangement is still in place.

What would be annoying is if we’re the designated home side against Geelong in Magic round and then cop the return game away to them at GMHBA in the final month. Hopefully it would be the reverse.

I wasn't talking finances.

It was more that if the 'Magic' round is our Home game then the return game vs that team is an Away game for us which could add an extra i/state trip as we will likely play some of Lions, Freo, Sydney, Geelong twice.  That return game will be in addition to the usual games we play interstate.

As sure as the sun rises we will play at GMHBA whether we play Geelong once or twice.

I expect we'll play most of Geelong, Collingwood, Fremantle , Richmond and Port Adelaide twice.

Geelong as premiers should get the toughest draw, and that would include us.

Collingwood because of Queens birthday and now grundy grudge; and top 6 side

Freo because they are another top 8 side, and Jackson grudge.

Richmond because of ANZAC deal and top 8 - though Brisbane (rivalry developing) is a logical alternative.

Port as it an extra SA game and our logical opponent for Alice - and they meet the middle 8 criteria.

Then a bottom side, hopefully Hawthorn but probably GWS.

Debating the 6 repeat games that each side will get is, as every year, futile.

Right now you would say that drawing Geelong, Sydney, Brisbane, Richmond, Collingwood etc. twice would be tough. But undoubtedly at least one of those sides will struggle next year (this year's Port or Bulldogs equivalent).

Conversely there will be at least one 2022 non-finalist who will rise up the ladder. Might be Gold Coast. Who knows.

As others have said, the main things to focus on at fixture-release time are time slots, six-day and five-day breaks, and spread of home games against big sides vs interstate sides.

Wait until they still get 9 at Taxpayers Stadium despite it not being ready before Round 9. Something Gold Coast did not get in 2018.

So the usual complains that we pray to not have are Geelong at their pub ground and west coast in Perth.

However, it is almost guaranteed we are gonna get the Cats twice and they wont both be at the G.

Even if we have a home game against West Coast it will probably end up being in Alice so it will be 9 years where we don't get them at the G.

My hopes are:

  • 2 games at Adelaide Oval - we play that ground better than any other and its one of, if not, the best interstate trip
  • Sydney at the SCG - Only played them there twice since 2013 and we need to learn how to beat them up there in case we get a final at the SCG (also last proper ground I haven't seen Melbourne play at)
  • 15 MCG/Marvel + plus 1 in Geelong rather than the 14, 1 and 7 interstate trips we normally have.
  • Breakdown on that being 3 MCG away games (13 in total) and 2 at Marvel.
  • More Saturday 2:10 games - did not have a single Saturday red ball game at the G this year (only Sunday 1:10 against the Saints).
  • QB/KB and Anzac Eve are our home games so hoping for double ups agianst the Pies and Tigers on Friday nights for exposure.
  • Not [censored] North in Hobart with a ten goal breeze but that is also wishful thinking.
  • Round 1 home game on a Saturday arvo against Essendon/Carlton/Hawthorn.

I can’t believe you’re happy to go to Geeelong again!

We might know our round 1 fixture by tomorrow night.

In terms of the wish list, I'm not as concerned with playing a number of top 6 teams twice. Clubs come and go pretty quickly and who would've thought Port and GWS would miss the 2022 finals this time last year while the Dogs did all they could to miss the 8 until Carlton imploded at the last minute. Therefore one or two of Geelong, Sydney, Collingwood, Brisbane, Melbourne or Freo will likely have a poor season and miss the finals. Sounds silly but every year a quality side falls off the cliff the following season.

I'm way more concerned with having an even travelling schedule as opposed to the shocker we had this year. We cannot have a repeat of the Adelaide - Geelong - Alice - Docklands - Perth five week debacle that we copped this year. Have to think that had some sort of impact on our finals performances mainly due to fatigue and having 5 weeks away from our home venue where finals are played. Did any other side have 5 weeks away from their home ground?

It was great having the first 9/13 games at the MCG but it did us no favours at the back end.

Never said I'm happy to go there. I just know we will be there.

So my hopes/expectations have to take that into account.

Praying we get them in magic round and its their "home game"

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
