Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We still have Turner coming through who looked pretty good in the half a game he played against the Pies.

Love Disco! And reckon he's gonna be a player for us, but I don't see him as a stay at home defender just yet, more of an intercept type a bit like Lever, plus we would have 0 depth in that position if Tommo left and Petty went forward.

Turner looked very good in the Casey. Grand final and will be better than Thommo.

Another preseason and he will be ripe to take that spot, and we also have Joel Smith who can play the role.

I know he's signed until 2025 but I'm told Petty is a 'watch this space' long term. Apparently he's relatively home-sick and a bit of work needs to be done to keep him.

Where’s he from?

Personally think he's more an old fashioned 1 v 1 defender that will blanket/spoil his man and the damage at ground level on turnover / transition LN.  Petty's good at the former and does ok with the latter without being all that damaging.  Disco plays a little taller than his stature as well.  Pretty good leap.

Weid is worth a trial in Petty's role IMO.

Allows Petty to play forward and see what he can bring for a stint.  Successful then of course you keep going.  If not you revert back.

Weid can also handle some minor ruck duties with Max in this role.  No one else on this list (at present) offers this versatility and upside (if it comes off!) for us nor has the same height as Petty to take a tallish defender if required.  Weid is the same height.

Petty played as a forward in juniors...  Can pack mark better than most (better than anyone else at MFC except perhaps for Gawny when in form).  I say try him early on in the season.  T Mac can play wing with his engine.  Get Turner in.  Looked good in his first game before the concussion.  JVR can be given some more time.  IMO he plays 10-12 games in 2023.

Agree he has to be tried forward next season. Even if it’s a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul. IMO we can afford to leak a few extra goals down back if we convert more of our inside F50 entries and we usually win that stat in matches. I suspect Goody isn’t going to fundamentally change the game plan so we need players who can take contested marks up forward.

He might have when much younger, but at the more 'elite' junior levels he was a defender - here's his draft profile https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/harrison-petty/

I don't mind the idea of both Petty and May becoming more adaptable as swingman, but neither should be transformed into full time forwards unless we got a full time replacement in the back line. Turner is too raw to back in for a full season and Tomo is 4th in line, we'd really have nothing else behind them - Smith maybe but he's not that real lock down key defender.

Why not?  Be bold and play Turner in Petty's role.  Geelong weren't afraid to do it with De Koning

You can just tell he played Forward as a junior, the way he attacks the ball at its highest point is very unique.

Try telling Goody though.

We will hopefully have a fit TMac, B Brown couldn't be as bad as he was this year, Dutchy at Casey that a full preseason will be great, don't forget our WA draft picks didn't get over till after Christmas.

I think if Weiderman is out Bruce is on the way in.

Hoping Petty is still in our back 6 he is vital down there and these other blokes can hold down the kpf spots.

We're all deseparate for a contesting key forward. Why else would we be considering moving a great back forward permenantly based on 5 minutes of football 😛

I reckon we could use him in the same way Geelong used harry Taylor for years....KPD who drifts forward later in games and kicks those clutch goals......very hard for teams to defend against that.

Agree 100%.  Will stay back in defence but have the little moments where he goes forward when we need to roll the dice.

With Grundy now in, it's fairly like that either he or Gawn will be resting/rotating forward for 50-75% of matches.  This would clearly see the best defender most likely go deep on one of these two and allow us to play the best two in form out of TMac, BBB and JVR.

On the classic team sheet look, I'm thinking we'll start off as follows:

HF:        Fritsch      McDonald        Sparrow/Melk/Harmes/Spargo/ANB
FF:        Kozzi          Gawn               JVR

The depth for the talls is from BBB, Tomlinson and then Petty.

There is plenty of depth for the small/medium forwards with Laurie also hopefully coming on.

I think Petty the defender is more valuable than Petty the forward.  But him drifting forward is a wonderful ace to have up our sleeve.

Yeah especially when the opposition defenders are tired. I'd be keen to try it but we'll see how 'you can't cheat the system' Goodwin feels.

Turner can cover off Petty's TRIAL move forward.

It's worth finding out what he might bring to the table in this position especially early in the season if Macca doesn't make it back for quite some time (or maybe at all).

BB solo up forward won't cut it.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
