Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's almost guaranteed that we play them there.

We will most likely play them twice and they won't have a home game against us at the G because we are a small club.

It will also be the usually late in the season game against them because their pub ground is unavailable until round 10.

Only chance of us not going there is if the AFL sends one of essendon or Hawthorn down there.

No chance Hawthorn will be going there despite their projected bottom 4 finish.

Geelong V Hawthorn is locked in for Easter Monday at the MCG.

Therefore that leaves Collingwood and/or Richmond as the other teams that Geelong will host at the G.

So yeah, the only chance we avoid Kardinia Park is if we play them once, as the home team.

It's an extra round of meaningful footy so not all bad. I know this is money motivated, but I'll give it a chance

If prices are reasonable, unlikely I know, I might head over for that weekend

It’s during the school holidays. Everything will be outrageously more expensive.

have i missed anything?

Just the bit about there not being enough suitable ovals in the City of Adelaide and therefore the need to schedule some of the games to be played at selected regional venues.

I've heard they're considering Snowtown with the names of the two competing clubs to be drawn from a barrel.

Essendon and Hawthorn wouldn’t know how to find the ground so would have to forfeit

Round 5 for the abracadabra round according to reports and one assumes that Round 1 is now a week early.

Listen to the whinging if a team draws Adelaide or Port.

We haven't heard as to how the additional round impacts the loose formula for top six playing each other twice etc

Also will the AFL "waste" good games on suburban venues and low crowds

Any guesses who will, and who will not?

And since we finished 1 and 5, or 1 and 2, no way we will not play them twice.

You’re probably right.

Given we finished 5th I’d say we’ll play two of Geelong, Sydney, Collingwood, Brisbane and Freo twice.

The AFL will  be keen (if possible) for Grundy and Jackson to face their old sides twice for box office attraction,  so we could avoid Geelong twice on that basis.

This is what bemuses me is why not take this opportunity to say no team gets a home game here. Port and Adelaide play each other on Thursday night to kick off the “monster magic round”, and then the rest of the round plays itself out with zero home ground advantage.

Instead as you say two teams will feel hard done by with copping Port or Adelaide.

Again, the single thing that the AFL fail at is fairness.

Single thing Pates! I have a list a metre long. However fairness is high on the list and 90% ties back to pleasing the media. Take the five interchange that is about reducing the look of the game in the last quarter. As players tire their skill level drops. The media don't want  that in the last quarter. So 5 is the go. It will 5 plus a medical substitute in a couple of years time.

Haha very true, I should have said the one thing AFL should be making paramount is fairness and integrity. But it’s one thing they CONSISTENTLY fail at.

On a fairness level, the Showdown should be held that round so that no team is disadvantaged playing against ADL or PtA. But instead, I'm sure they'll try to maximise crowds and have ADL and PtA headlining separate 'blockbuster' double headers, so eg GWS v Freo is the curtain raiser to PtA vs Syd. I guess, as long as they rotate this round each season, the advantages will even out (in theory)?

If Adelaide and Port play interstate teams in this round then the competition becomes even more hopelessly compromised. With the league so even atm it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the ‘magic’ round could be the difference between an Adelaide team making the finals and not. That would be yet another ingenious way for the AFL to lack fairness and integrity. Insane.

I like the abracadabra round... or perhaps the Mad Hatter Round (as in Rabbit out of a Hat)

Is there going to be a magic round jumper? Or a cup for the team that kicks the highest score. Perhaps double Brownlow points for this round.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
