Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Port chasing Kozzy Pickett

Have to wonder what we can afford to offer Kozzie vs what other clubs will throw at him, if we bring in Grundy now even with pies paying a chunk I wouldn’t think we could afford to pay kozzie more than 500, I’d expect some clubs to offer near a mill (see Rankine this year) even without any go home factor that would be hard to ignore.

Kozzie is very close to his uncle, Byron Pickett a Port premiership player who lives in SA.  iirc the Pickett family took him in hence why he has Pickett in his double surname and why he lived in SA prior to being drafted.

imv he is our #1 priority to recontract and the soon the better.  Not many like him and his x factor is almost irreplaceable .

He is one of the few players that gets the crowd on their feet making noise whenever he goes near the ball or starts a chase.

It isn't this year that I am worried about.  It is next year when he comes out of contract.

Well if that’s the case, I’d pass on Grundy and ensure we save the $$ for Kozzy or attracting others (like a key forward). Though I do think Kozzy is one bloke who isn’t motivated by the $$. It will be about intangibles like his feeling of belonging, mateship, his partner, family and support.

That's right. I could care less about people saying he'll remain with us for 2023, we need a long term contract in place.

Kozzy had some special games kicking bags of goals and doing some great pressure acts.

But equally would go missing in large parts of games for weeks on end.

I recall countless discussions in game day threads this year where many were calling for him to be dropped not for a lack of scoring goals but not doing the simple effort based defensive work.

Don’t have to agree with me, but that is how I see it.

It’s amazing with supporters as soon as a player maybe traded we always find fault in them.

Would be an absolute disaster if we lost Jacko & Kozzie in consecutive years

Both have the same sentiment.

"I could care less" and "I couldn't care less" are both informal, interchangeable phrases used to say the pretty much the same thing.

I hope this puts the matter to rest.

If Port offer Kossie a big enough deal then he and his manager would have to at least consider what's on offer

From there, who knows?  We might have to come to the party with a decent contract offer and/or entertain the thought of trading him

We could do nothing and make him play out his final year of his contract but eventually, we're going to have to pay him a decent amount to keep him

It might come down to Kossie accepting unders with us (in relation to being paid overs at Port)  Or go for the overs

Way different circumstances but Gysberts, Martin & Morton were all traded despite all 3 players having a year left on their contracts

So contracts are binding to a point

If a player wants out (like LJ) what does a club do?  Kossie or his manager haven't made any demands or asked for a trade but you'd imagine that we would have tried to extend his contract.  And there's one year left on the existing contract

Those 3 were all potatoes who we were happy to trade away.

Losing Kossie would be horrific.

Gross hyperbole.

Pickett is worth nowhere near $1m per year. That’s insane.

If he can get that, he should take it and run. $500k is worth close to what he’d get on an open market.

Yes, way different circumstances for Gysberts, Martin & Morton (all in the same year too) but one year left on a contract can work the other way.  Not sure we necessarily hold a strong hand but we certainly do not need another year of speculation.  Will he, won't he

In an ideal world Kossie re-signs asap but if not, do we make the best of the situation and cut out a year of speculation?

I tend to think that if Kossie is on the move then it will happen in this trade period.  If not, he'll re-sign before the start of next season in my view.  But who knows?

Opinion was divided on LJ for the most part but by the end of the season there were very few here who believed he was staying

Money is a big factor that many want to put aside (or ignore) ... but often it is about the money.  Opportunist clubs making tempting offers for players who might want out

Look at how so many Victorian clubs have swooped on players wanting out at clubs like GWS & Gold Coast?  And we are amongst those clubs (Lever, Langdon (?) May, Hibberd, Melksham etc)

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
