Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We need a pack marking forward which BBB is not. we need someone ferocious in the air, which BBB is not, we need someone with some mongrel.... which BBB is not.

I still dont rate him,  hes got no strength for a 200cm forward, this however could be because of his knee, im not sure.

Bang on. Herein lies the problem. Either you get personnel to suit your game style or you change the game style to suit your personnel.
It’s not BBB’s fault we recruited him, although he could do with a big fat porterhouse.

Name some pack marking forwards in the AFL? Better still, name a club that relies on pack marking forwards. The 2 beasts of the comp in Lynch and Hawkins rely on one-on-one strength to beat their opponents.

Our game-style worked in 2021, but better teams combatted it in 2022. It's up to the coaching dept to come up with a game-style that suits our list.

Most of the above salient posts should be in the Ben Brown thread. But our whole forward structure and how we move the ball needs to change. And that change may mean it’s suited to BBB.

(I have my doubts with the Gawn FF future ominous for Brown)

I could go on.

Our game style has changed from last year we were a lot quicker into the forward line.

I don't want to have Ben brown up forward and have to rely on perfect entry for him to take a mark.

No one said about any team needing to rely on having a pack marking forward.

I however want a forward who is 200cm tall to have some sort of ability to crash packs and take a contested mark from time to time, not run under the ball or literally have to two grab marks every opportunity he gets

people forget BBB used to run 15kms a game at north he was a real workhorse in his prime and burnt his oppo going back to goal and then spinning them and coming back up at the leg.

Corbett is a yes. Small change $$$ in our salary cap but importantly he’s a forward who knows how to kick goals. That’s what we need. We need players who WANT to kick goals, not pass off or handball to others but actually take on kicking goals.

thoughts therefore on sexton? smaller but a lot craftier and generally doesnt miss a snap from within 30-35.

100% We need someone with killer instinct, someone who dreams of kicking a goal and is always waiting for that next opportunity. Someone who if they miss a set shot can forget about it quickly and move on to the next one which they will dob through.

Seems like a dying breed with everything else coming first and that part being figured out later these days.

190cm/90kg forward. Very much in the Fritsch/Gunston mold with a little more body strength.

Have liked what I've seen from him in a few GC games I've watched over the last couple of years. He single handily tore Collingwood apart at the G a couple of seasons ago.

Has a good pair of hands.

I see him more in the Tim Membrey mould than Fritsch/Gunston. Capable of playing as a key forward due to his build and strong hands.

If you look at him on the ground he doesn’t look 190cms.

Footballers really should be measured in height to the top of their shoulders plus arm length. Corbett could have a short neck and small head, he could be a big as a 195cm player in the way that matters!

Poor man’s Membrey is exactly what Corbett is. He’s undersized and predominantly hits up at CHF. The right type of tall if you’re playing a ruck and another tall deep as the Saints usually do.

I really rate Josh Corbett, he's the right age, good for his size and a decent kick we could pick up for a good trade.

Let's not forget Jason Dunstall was only 188cms, so height isn't everything.

BBB did what we needed and helped win us our first flag in 57 years, even with injury clouding his performance.  A solid preseason should get him right hopefully.

Jason of course had a midfield and half forwards who could deliver to a lead - if only ……

He was such a great leader to the ball carrier as well. The number of times he'd start shoulder to shoulder with the defender and end up 3 or 4 metres in front of them by the time the kick came in, sublime.

Is our interest possibly as a reinvented winger? He is the Suns best runner over 2km and from what I found also recorded their third top speed in 2020. His kicking efficiency this season was rated as elite. Can also take a mark and kick a few which could make him quite dangerous.

Sounds like Tomlinson but with marking and kicking ability!

If you go back across the VFL year and put together a highlights package on Van Rooyen not knowing his background, I think many on here would be drooling over him. And he's already on our list.

His output was comparable to Hogan in his year and with another pre-season in the gym he will hit the ground in round 1 at approx 105kg and an appetite for senior footy.  He should play 15 plus games next year with at least 5 of those where he will be a liability, but we have to play him next year to develop him properly. All discussions about our forward line should I think take him into account.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
