Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah maybe.

I just don't rate Jefferson all that highly at all. Yet all information seem to lead us to taking him of available.

I reckon nobody knows who we’re taking, we really don’t leak and in the years we took Oliver and Jackson it was really only in the last 10 or so days leading up to the draft they started to link us with both those boys. All along in Oliver’s year they thought we would take Parish, and in Jackson’s year it was all about us filling needs for a small forward and rebounding defender with the experts in the lead up having us go for players from Young, Ash, Serong and Weightman. The mail on Jackson and Kossie came late

I’d put this down as more of a rumour than strong mail but the latest I’ve heard is:

- We have identified a target early in the draft. We’d absolutely love them to fall to 13 but given thats unlikely we’ll attempt to trade up for them.

- But, as it stands it’s more likely we can’t get them and then we’ll trade down the order as it’s a pretty even crop later in the first round.

No mail on how much we’d be willing to trade to get up the order but I’d expect we’d pay market value to get to a pick 6-9 range. Have to imagine a future first is involved

Not sure how far we’d go backwards either, I think we’d want to stay top 25.

It’s Ginbey, but I understand Suns and Hawthorn have come into the picture for him, so now it isn’t just about getting in front of West Coast

Sounds like Gold Coast are locked in with Ginbey at pick 5 (6 after Ashcroft) as he's seen as the prospect with the least go home factor for them.

If that rumour is true I wonder if it's Tsatas we're targeting with rumoured speculation of him sliding. Would make sense his outside midfield nature would compliment our inside bulls very well.

If we were to move back I'd be okay with it if we were able to nab George. I wouldn't be against taking George with 13 as it is a similar outlook to Jefferson anyway with likely not playing next year. George just looks like that game changer who could become anything, a potential mid/fwd swing with Trac could be devastating. Jefferson's lack of physicality in marking contests and in general really worries me.

Not sure how you define “chonky” but I recall one Luke Hodge who fitted that description when he was drafted and I reckon it didn’t do him any harm (although he did tone his body a bit once he got into the AFL).

What's "Chonky" a new age term for chunky? Or a misspelling?

Clearly most recruiters can separate unfit/ overweight  to well built physically. If they can't shouldn't be in those positions of Trust!

My daughter assured me the modern term is "chonky".

At 185/87 I'm not implying George is fat.  He's likely muscle bound at a young age and that would give him a big advantage in U18 that may not translate.

Best available at 13. If its Jefferson then we pick him.  He may be gone by then.

We have 2 firsts and 2 2nds next year so there might be a youngish KPF  interested in changing teams. We are a good side and able to attract KPP's.

Or a KPF identified as becoming a UFA next year or 2 or 3?

Alternatively if we think Harry P can play forward to a high level and we rate Hayes as a CHB at 13 or maybe Busslinger is available.

Maybe we rate a player like Georges as a forward/mid at 13??

I expect we will be very active in the 2023 trade and draft period.

I also think we’ll be active next year and targeted in trading to get the targets we are set on. It’s worth noting that along with our first & second picks next year, and those of Freo, we’ll also have our futures available, so possibly 3x firsts & 2x second picks for trade to climb the order. I think we actively try to use next years pick now, but I think this year in particular is maybe a bad year to do it.

Also, don't want to come across as a debbie downer but if Kozzie Pickett does indeed head back to SA then that's another first rounder in the bank, possibly two.

It’d want to be more than just a first rounder! But agree. We could be hitting the draft hard... at just the right time?

Every year someone leaves and we get trade options. That's why I'd be moving up in this year's draft buy trading out at least one of next year's firsts. You want new draftees to be playing as long as possible with our current all stars. Next year is an unnecessary year later imo.

@Debbiedowner36 really hope he signs before start of next season. We should know what we can afford to offer him now that the trade period is over.

If he's not signed between now and very early next season then you'd have to assume he's gone, which would be incredibly sad

There’s no point burning a future pick if it only lets us have the choice between Lucas Cook & Brock McLean.

I was looking through past phantom form guides by Cal, and came across the November one, which features Dogga at 11, Rivers at 23, and Pickett at 30.

Considering we haven’t even reached Cal’s November phantom form guide this year, it just really shows how unpredictable drafting can be.

And yes, I am aware Cal isn’t predicting who will go where, I just found it interesting.

Port don't have a first round pick for next year, would have to be future first, but that would have them trading out 3 years worth of first round picks and not sure how that goes with the AFL rules??? Hypothetically speaking.

Thinking about it makes me very sad

Worst part is we wouldn't get more than a mid to late first rounder - he's criminally underrated outside of Melbourne fans given his output at his age attitude and star factor

Oh it's so sad to think about

If we can't get a player we want at 13 or are unable to trade up for said player, I have come round to the thought of trading out our first this year.

I wonder if Essendon might be a willing partner. Bombers have Davey as a f/s that may receive a bid before their 2nd pick at 22. The two main options they have will be to trade up to get ahead of the bid, or down to accrue more points to match.

Say we trade pick 13 and 37 to them with 37 helping them with points to match a bid for davey. In return we get pick 22, 54 (likely to come into mid 40's) and a future 1st.

In summary they end up with 3 first round picks (4, 13 and Davey) this year. We move 13 to 22 and get a future 1st (likely pick 5 - 10) giving us 3 first rounders for next year. Wishful thinking? Too generous?

I doubt very much that Essendon will give us F1st (5-10) + 22 + 54 for 13 + 37. It's bad for them at every point.

dont think the dons do that based on where they finish next year itll be a top 5 pick

the swans have 14 and 17 so we could slide back to 17 from them maybe for a second round pick?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
