Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The last minute of every quarter is so important. Tonight we gave away 5 goals in the last minute of quarters - 1 in Q1, 1 in Q2, 2 in Q3 and 1 in Q4.

Exactly …. as Footscray would remember from 2021.
Surely it is lack of communication and lack of concentration.
But the last half fade-outs are damning - physically and mentally soft.
Last year we were I believe #1 or 2 for second halves - this year 16th ahead of Norf and WCE.  Unbelievable turnaround.  Unacceptable.
And we still binned it long into the pocket and kicked it long to the wing even when it wasn’t working.  Can’t Goody see this when the rest of us can?  It would be better grubbing kicks into 50 to open space than incessantly going for the pocket. Madness and maddening.

Who's your answer then? An untried kid who's been inconsistent even at Casey (but hopefully will be great in the longer term) or Mitch Brown?

We had 22 shots on goal (more than them), not counting a few OOB on the full which were aimed in the general direction of the goals -  that should be enough to win a game of footy.

Not saying we don't need to look at what's going on with the forward line, but you can't lose your main tall forward/CHF and that not have consequences.

How about a different system of attack just for starters

17th for pressure acts tells the story this year.

The ruthlessness has gone, they are content they won one last year.

You're right.
Those close games we lost throughout the season the opposition wanted it more and celebrated accordingly.

But I'm both content we won one last year and not as ruthless in my thinking either TBH.

3 goals down with 3 minutes left in our season Goodwin decides to finally take a risk and throw Petty forward. Changes the game and we almost get over the line. I don’t like to be critical of Goody but he had 12 weeks to experiment with forward line set ups before the finals and to try Petty or JVR. I have to admit that Ben Brown has become a liability.

Umpiring was worse than last weeks rubbish.

Off season we have to look at the reason we have been in front most games and tanked the last half. It’s a pattern and whether it’s fitness or game plan or both. I don’t know, but looks to me we haven’t been running out games.

Feels sad to say this but it feels like we have wasted a year where we could have gone back to back and we’ve shot ourselves in the foot.

why did it take half a year and 2 lost finals to make a forward change?

I would love to know who’s ides it was to move Petty forward.

If it was not Godwin’s (say it was Yze) that would worry me.

The teams we have lost to this year have also set up much better at the fall of the ball in the front half. . they typically don’t try and out mark Max/BBBJackson.  They out number in the air ( we had 2 spares behind the ball for much of tonight, so there were 2 extra lions in our forward line), and play strong contested footy at the predictable spoil.

We also referred to bees to the j honey pot. all in at the ball, and no one on the outside ( except Lingers, who was consistently in the right place and i thought played well)

The two finals kinda summed up our season.

Play well in the first half, don't make the most of i50s due to dysfunctional forward line, give up a decent lead, don't make any significant changes.

For a brief moment, we saw what Petty in the forward line could've done had we made that change mid season. Too little, too late

we are clueless going forward. Take a mark, stop, look around, chip and then bomb it into the pocket. It's third rate rubbish. We never play on, take a bounce or take the game on. No dare whatsoever. It's so hard to watch.

Brains trust need to go to work in the off season . Create a plan which gives our players a chance to express their talent. there's no doubt the talent is there but out current gameplan is way past its use by date

You can only play on if there is a fast-moving team mate nearby who won't be tackled as soon as he receives the ball. That's if the ball doesn't land at his feet or go over his head....

100% this. It is about taking until then last game of the year to try something.

Not necessarily dysfunctional. Just didn't kick straight.

There's nothing there to develop mate, he's that far off it

Disagree. He has the tools.  I want much more than what he delivered this year though. He has been in the system long enough and needs to be much more damaging.

I don't think we have anyone this year who would consistently challenge him for his position at Casey (Dunstan maybe?)

Next year will be a different story. The youth have spent enough time at Casey and deserve game time.

Not angry. Not even a bit.

We looked like a pretender weeks ago. Plenty on here were expecting the team to suddenly click and start running over others when in fact the longer the season went, the worse (and more predictable) we dropped off after half time.

I know people were wishing and hoping for the best, but that's exactly what we got. This is the best that this years side could play. A very beige forward 50 with not much flair and almost no marking presence, and a midfield that couldn't outrun anyone.

We have a great list. We need to get the right fitness staff and folg the snot out of them over summer and build back the belief that came with having a huge tank.

Oh, and recruiting a tall forward who can take a grab consistently would be nice. Use the currency we will get for Jackson to target Harry M. We won't get anywhere by kicking to a pack containing big blokes who can't hold a pack mark to save themselves.

I think we can bounce back.

Does the playing list think the same?

There’s a million things that went wrong but here’s my top 3

To kick 11.13 and at least two out in the full is infruiating

To give away stupid goals in the final minutes of quarters is enraging

To sit there at 3/4 and KNOW they have nothing in the tank & Brisbane will run over us is depressing

I don’t enjoy going to watch them

Obviously very frustrating and embarrassing to go out in straight sets. How good did we look for that two minute window with Petty up forward? Unfortunately Goody and the match committee didn’t have the courage to make the call at selection either this or last game, or in the last few rounds. The lack of taking a punt on JVR or Smith, or even throwing Smith on tonight or against the Swans will haunt us over summer.

In the end we just didn’t seem hungry enough for another one. We thought that winning a flag at home would be motivation plenty; instead we buckled at the G under immense pressure during big games in the season and finals.

Very disappointing to see fans leaving when we were 20 points down. I understand the logistics of trying to beat the crowd and it being a late night but for me we need to stay until the end, and support the boys that put their bodies on the line and make us the team that we are today.

When the siren went I stood up in the front row of M13 and clapped the players that were nearby. I was thanking them for the immense joy they provided us last year (in such dark and challenging times for our city) and for the efforts this year. Bring on 2023, can’t wait to see us again.

And we did the same thing tonight when we had the opposition on their knees (in the first half)

We could have killed them off and buried them but old habits die hard

Poor coaching and shocking decision making (by the players)

We gifted them the game, we gave them a sniff and in the end, they walked all over us

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
