Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

retreating into our slow methodical attacking strategy with a massive attack of the panics down back. None of the fast, rolling waves of possession, just fumbly, horrible rubbish that gets easily turned over.

we are clueless going forward. Take a mark, stop, look around, chip and then bomb it into the pocket. It's third rate rubbish. We never play on, take a bounce or take the game on. No dare whatsoever. It's so hard to watch.

Brains trust need to go to work in the off season . Create a plan which gives our players a chance to express their talent. there's no doubt the talent is there but out current gameplan is way past its use by date

Where are all the posters who slagged off anyone who dared criticise the match committee or coaches? Blind Freddy could see that our 2 finals losses were on the cards, based on our form during the 2nd half of the season.

I'm not upset. I'm angry.

The bottom line this season, we just weren't ruthless for long enough, you get 22 points up you just need to put sides away, every loss this year we had handy leads but just lacked that killer instinct like last year to put games away.

We now have a choice do we follow the same path as bulldogs after they won their flag or we do we become ruthless like the tigers did to win 2 more.

It’s genuinely infuriating to watch us lose the same way every week. To sit there at the G and have opposition fans give us a bake when we are beaten so convincingly after half time is just utter garbage.

We realistically haven’t been a top 6 since since midseason. It’s a lot to digest as a supporter but we fell in a massive hole mid year and never pulled ourselves far enough out of it. I dunno. I’m super flat.

I hate that the umpiring, particularly early in the final quarter, has left me so angry. I try to avoid being crabby about umpiring.

I'm fully aware that we lost it for ourselves with so many little moments of uncertainty and hesitation and a collection of dopey errors.

But early in the 4th it looked like we were pulling it back together and I really felt like a serious run of soft, weak or accumulating 50/50 calls one way really robbed us.

Such is life.

I'm really glad I've had the Kharkiv breakthrough to cheer me up and give perspective.

Did we get a free forward of centre after half-time?

HQ want Cats in the GF. They have an easy kill now.

You complain about the umpires after every loss. How about analysing the performance of the players and coaches for a change? You might find the real reasons for our losses.

We always needed two tall key defenders. Without the likes of Joel Smith or even Turner, Petty always had to fill that role.

Also, I bet that if it had been Petty instead of Lever in that last bizarre play it wouldn't have cost us a goal. Swings and roundabouts. But can see Ben Brown playing out his contract at Casey.

Brown got clean hands to the ball so many times, he just cannot hold a mark.

What a waste of a year. We got into a prime position and piddled it all away.

Admittedly, the Lions shut their mouths and (mostly) just played football. When Mitch Robinson and Rhys Mathieson were outs, I knew they had learnt the lessons of round 23. I don’t like their chances next week but they deserve to be there more than us. There is a way to beat us (albeit many of us lived in denial of it) and the Lions to their credit played to the proven strategy that beats us: fast, sharp movement forward, kicks to open grass or 50/50 contest and constant frontal pressure. Collingwood first did it in QBD 2021 and if teams have the cattle and pull it off, more often than not have they beaten us.

You could see that heads where elsewhere throughout this game. Sparrow giving up a free kick for running too far. BBB playing on and immediately getting tackled. Maxy and Maysie dropping simple chest marks. As soon as Brissy got to 3QT one goal down, I knew we were in serious trouble because of the dumb, dumb football we were playing.

I’ve stood up for BBB for a while, but if he hasn’t got Tomald back in next year opening up leading patterns, he might want to retire. While he isn’t the 60 goal full forward of North days, his finals were mostly putrid. Dogga as a resting forward didn’t help. He’s been mentally checked out for a while. Either way, JVR needs a run next year. To what extent is up for debate, but the forward line status quo cannot stand.

Whatever happens next year, injury management and aerobic fitness really need to be looked at. Too often have we gotten to 4 or 5 goals up only to be slowly overrun. It started against Freo and basically reproduced itself in every loss for the year. Plus the amount of blokes out with injury was cause for concern. Tomald out for 12. Maxy out for significant stretches. Lever not himself after his injury.

One silver lining to come out of this year is that I hope our blokes now realise that flags just don’t grow on trees. All this talk of ‘winning one on the ‘G’ smacked of cart before horse stuff. We now reload but the bitter taste of how we went out will linger.

We need another big forward to support Brown. TMac’s injury cost us massively. Maybe we could have rolled the dice with JVR, but I think that could also have blown up terribly in our face. Luck didn’t go our way this season.

Support Brown?

Our entire gameplan doesn't support Brown so you either change one or the other.

Abysmal coaching performance in the second half of the season

No plan B

1. kicking out to the right every time & kicking into the left pocket when going forward most times

2. Dysfunctional forward line

3. No changes in selection all year & playing injured players in finals

4. Teams worked us out & we did nothing

Well we were a laughing stock for 56 years so it's only appropriate for us to go out this way. $1.20 favourites on your home deck against an interstate side and give no yelp. Normal service resumed.

Completely arrogant season from all involved. How about talking about how we are still trying to change the culture and it is a work in progress instead of spouting off about this great culture we have after one good season. This club just doesn't understand what it takes to be at the top.

This season was a complete and utter failure. From the players to the coaches it was not only a lost opportunity to have another crack at a flag, but a terrible regression in our attitude to competing when things aren't falling into place for us.

Nailed it. Utter stubbornness, naivity and stupidity from the club this year.

What a painful second half of the season, like banging head against the wall. We were going nowhere fast and there was zero attempt to turn it around. Not one change to squad or game plan.

We go again next year with our next wave of recruits. JVR, Bedford, Chandler, Laurie, Howes, Woewodin and a few new recruits.

I was happy developing these kids at Casey but next year they will be ready.

Probably time to give Sparrow more responsibility too. He has done his time getting ready. Time to see if we can develop him into a better player.

If it makes you feel better, those DID NOT SEE THIS COMING lol.

So we are advanced in our stages of grief.

Me, I am at bargaining, just said to the cat that I will get him more biscuits if he clawed my eyes out.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
