Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Do we really ask for those early season MCG games? I wish we wouldn't. At least, not to the extent we had them this year.

I'd much rather see us get the majority of our road trips out of the way in the first half of the season (no matter the difficulty of the opponents).

We did a few years ago in PJ's days.  That may change now that our membership is substantially higher.

Geelong ask for the majority of their i/state games in the first half of the season which is why they always have so many games at GMHBA at the end.  They back themselves in to have a tough stretch early, win their fair share and then 'rest up' at the pointy end.

I think Richmond request something similar to Geelong so have lots of games at the G at the tail end, altho they play so many MCG tenants, often twice, it is hard for them to not have the vast majority of their games there.

Fixture-wise, I'm hopeful of the following:

  1. Travel being spread out through the season - I don't want three road trips in the first 14 games and then four road trips plus a Geelong game in the last 8 games
  2. Home games being spread out through the season - I don't want 10 of our first 14 games at the MCG but then only 2 of the last 8
  3. Tough games being spread out - I don't want 2 of our first 10 games to be against finalists (and the two worst ones at that), but then 10 of our last 12 games being against finalists

Less games at the G😋

We need to change things up quite a bit.

Better forward targets in Van Rooyen and TMac, but we also need X factor in guys like Monic Wakefield who impressed me this year.

Throw in J. Smith and the forward line starts to look dangerous with Fritsch and Kozzie as well.

Outs are Spargo, ANB and Brown Melksham

Petty and Smith could be interchangeable forwards/backs when we need to change something up.

Rivers and Hunt for Bedford and Chandler , and I’d play Brayshaw on the wing or down back.

Bowey as the other half back option.

Finally if we don’t get Grundy, then Weed would be a second ruck option as he is starting to look good in there, and will probably kick more goals than a Jackson anyway. He just needs to put on some weight and build up over the summer.

As I will probably only get to a few games at the G next year LH ( day games) I reckon less games would benefit us. We don't play it at all well.

That's not where he best serves us though. We have plenty of good half backs and Gus' turnovers (he ended up averaging the 2nd most for us for the year) hurt us more in the backline. We traded and recruited specifically to address scores from back half turnovers so I don't think you'll see Gus there next year. Was far more impactful for us as a team on the wing, and is a good clearance winner, so for mine his best role in contributing to the team is wing/mid.

Stats are rubbish. Last year off the wing he finished 13th in the B&F This year mainly playing off half back he will finish top 5, at least top 10. His last 2 games in the middle were terrible.

Anyone notice how many games we lost when Tmac was injured?

One tall outside the backline doesn't work.

There's a reason we have 3 talls down back.

Jackson in the ruck loses us a tall chf

We need players forward of the centre who are clinical in front of goal. Last week the Swans finished off half chances, we need more of this because space in our forward line is just not going to be there.

Players like Laurie and Bowey are great kicks and need to play especially in forward 50 to convert our wasted opportunities

Yet he received 5 coaches votes in rnd 22 and 1 vote in rnd 23.  He can't have been that bad!

And in the last game, rnd 23 he kept Neale to a few cameo roles.

Brayshaw should have stayed at half back.

He was in the all Australian squad because of it.

I wonder if they pandered to his desire to play mid when negotiating his contract and played him there accordingly.

Harmes did a good enough job as a tagger and they could have put a Sparrow or Bedford in the other wing

The finals not rnd 22 and 23. He was great in the home and away season.

I think we were much better with JJ on the wing and Gus and Bowza down back. I doubt the Lions would have got those late goals with that arrangement.

If we pick up Meek or Logue I'm certain we will never win a flag both very ordinary players.

More games played there the better we will get on jt.

Need to be very good on it, as our finals could be played there, and the grand will definitely be played there for quite a few more years.

1. Second true wingman

Howes may be the only player who fits the bill. Rosman too raw. Jordon I rate as a utility sort of midfielder who you can play in multiple positions but he's slow, kicking also lacks damage.

Is Bowza a left field choice?

Brayshaw? See: Jordon

2. Upgraded forward line

JVR a certainty, but will Petty join him?

Hopefully one of Bedford or AMW takes the next step, too.

3. Upgrade the bottom 4-6

Need to move past players like ANB, Sparrow and potentially Hunt & BBB.

No coincidence the forward line is where the bulk of our weaker players predominantly play.

Talks cheap km. So far he is an average second ruckman.

Jackson was on the field. Harmes to keep Berry off Oliver, wasted on the wing. Dogga didn't do well up forward, could have been a defensive winger and got back to help, or given them a tall to kick to. We often played for the boundary line when kicking to the wing.

In any case, unlikely he will be with us next year, and I was talking in retrospect to our semi.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
