Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Because no one knows he’s got a fracture, just a bad corky. He’s a match winner and it’s a final, of course he stays on. Petracca can turn a game with 5 possessions.  Smith, he’s not winning the game for us.

We subbed out Luke Jackdon against Brisbane because he had a corcked calf..

Watched the replay today with the conscious effort of seeing how Trac's body would respond after his injury.

Pretty much every time he kicked the pill he was in obvious pain... Amazing effort to play out the remaining 3 & a half Qtrs.

The timing of this injury couldn't have come at a worse time.

He'll probably end up playing due to the stakes... but he really shouldn't be.

I’m sure that Tracc is in great hands with our medical team.  He will not play if there is risk of further damage, or his performance will be significantly hindered if he takes the field.

Not sure why we made his actual injury public, because he'll only be targeted if he now plays.. Dr Peter Larkins said in today's paper many players have played with this injury before and not been targeted because nobody knew about it.

Yeah the idea of Zorko or Mitch Robinson targeting Trac’s injury on Friday is a horrifying and not in any way unrealistic one.

We need Trac healthy for the next several years, and resting him this week is a no-brainer as far as I can see.

If Trac is genuinely crucial in order to beat the Lions, then that should tell you we don’t have what it takes to beat the remaining teams.

Probably because large swathes of our membership, and Demonland, would have lost it if we'd hidden it until after the finals.

Imagine: he plays, we lose, he's off, we later find out about the injury. Demonland would go off its collective rocker at the club treating us like nobodies.

Seriously? Highly doubt any of this. We hid May’s injury going into the GF last year. The full extent of the injury wasn’t revealed until after the GF. The place was not going to implode if we lost the GF as a result of this. It totally worked to our advantage. The club wants to maximise chances of winning, not being open and frank in weekly communication with members and Demonland followers to ultimately, potentially, inhibit the team’s performance by putting the opposition on notice.

This is sound and rational. Trac already has put in an enormous season for us; injury of some/any description is reason to not play him against Brisbane, allowing for an extra week or so for significant recovery. It will break Trac's heart, it is disappointing for the fans; it transfers much of the responsibility for Trac's contributions to several 'cruisers' in the team (including thoughtful football) and is an important, highly motivating reason why the whole team should lift. Brizzy have players returning so our effort needs to be 100% across four quarters of team football. Should we win the game then Trac is ready for the next battle. If we lose the game, Trac is ready for the next season with less compromise across the board. We have the talent to win the game and the necessary personnel - stand up, Dees. I feel the same way about playing TMac and to a certain extent, Salem.

Simple, Unless he is 100% fit he misses. On that basis he shouldn't and wont play! Stuff this "Up to the player"bulltish, this is a serious injury with the potential to become more serious!

You do realise no player is 100% this time of year?

Personally I think there’s more of a risk in playing him. Obviously to the player himself as he WILL be targeted. But more to the point the risk of keeping up the facade that everything is fine. We’re in a sudden death final and arguably our best player is down… it’s now or never.  I’d be bringing in an in form Dunstan and, as part of that, try to get the whole team to share the load and lift a notch. This isn’t business as usual anymore and now everyone has to do more.

Murphy, the doggies captain at the time, went down on the eve of the finals and they won the flag. The whole team responded to that and we need the same ..not playing an injured trac who can barely run and can’t kick straight .

Would much rather a bloke like Dunstan going at 100% (after a week off) and crashing in hard than Trac hobbling around trying to play as best he can.

We need to have a team full of players that are ready to play at finals intensity and if they aren't it's not worth the risk.

For mine, Petracca plays:

  • While in the midfield Oliver is less likely to be tagged.
  • We need Harmes or Brayshaw to mind Neale
  • Even parked in the goal square he is dangerous as his many snaps out of pack goals show.
  • He is unselfish around goal and if he can't kick he will hand ball.
  • Petracca will attract a midfielder or a defender when forward.

Not playing him just makes Brisbane's life easier.

I just can't see any player we bring in being better overall value than Petracca.

I have a feeling you might get you wish.

But I maintain the position that if we need to play somebody with a hairline fracture just so we can beat the Lions, then our season is over anyway.

I think you are right.

The problem could be that it's not really going to get better in one week,  but still, 2 weeks off playing and training is better than playing and risking a disaster with a likely restricted performance anyway.

Agree that he shouldnt be risked. If he is out there hobbling around having no impact then we get to a prelim what happens then??

Only problem is that if he shouldn’t play this week with a hairline fracture, he really shouldn’t play for the next month

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
