Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hibbo retire? He is playing cracking footy!

Yep. Totally underestimated in the comp by so many. Easily shuts down the best of the best.

His age hasn't slowed him.

He has incredible closing speed and a wealth of defenders experience.

Did  a great job against the lions and I still remember when ne made Dusty Martin look like an auskick player.

One of the reasons are backline struggled early as Hibberd was absent.

We have offered Toby a 2 year deal also I believe. Tommo I think has one year left on his contract so unless things change and he or the Club change their minds he is a 2023 starter

I have not been Joel's biggest fan and until last year at the end when he finally realised he was part of a defence team he was a liability.

Yes he was injured agsin this year but he is no doubt now up to AFL standard and the fact that we at long last are trying him up forward is a big potential bonus.

Maybe one year with an option if either extending for another  contract would be wiser but let's go with it snd we could well be rewarded with a latent star in the twilight of his career. Hoping Joel can be injury free of course.

PS Remember how Roosy revived Lord Nev to greatness for 5 Years for our defence then this could well be another great decision now for our forward line of the future.

Let it play out to the full I say. Go Joel.

As reported on AFL.com..

2 year deal supposedly. To be honest I don't mind this? Especially if he spends a full summer training as a forward where I think we could see some huge growth hopefully next year.

He's the perfect prototype player for this game with his speed, versatility and strength. Gives us an option to throw down back if need due to injury etc.

poor bloke can't stay in the park works so hard and deserves a good run at it ... could be our back up ruck if we have injuries

Joel will be 27 by the start of next season and has played 26 career games in 7 years.

His potential is irrelevant - his lack of durability and propensity to injury makes him the absolute definition of a list clogger.

We are just hoping for something that simply isn't there. Time to move on and find someone who can get on the field most weeks.

we're already losing Majak and assumably MBrown as talls off the list (given his 3yr rookie time is up) with serious Q's over Weids ability/want to stay and just make up the numbers and TMac's lisfranc, we need the balance of an extra tall on the list.

Baker will get delisted. Rosman delisted with a potential re-rookie. Hunt will sign on unless he is offered a better deal elsewhere.

I think both Hibbo and Melksham will retire, especially if we win the flag.

Jackson is 99.9% gone.

Bedford is also out of contract I believe.

Also just because someone is signed, doesn't mean we can't trade them. I wouldn't begrudge Chandler if he went elsewhere since he can't get a regular gig and he is good enough to play AFL.

Baker -agree

Rosman -agree

Hunt -agree

Hibbo/Melky - i think get 1yrs regardless

Jackson -agree

Bedford -stays i rkn but yes is OOC

I don't disagree, but if he wins another flag he might decide that he is done. He did have a niggling calf injury earlier this year which kept him out for almost half a year. If he wants to go again I would be happy to give him another 1 year deal.

But we have to keep the list ticking over. We need to make minimum 3 list changes, and it's getting harder and harder to pick the 3. I also think it is a big miss not to let Jason Taylor work his magic in the draft. He can do some great things with later picks. I don't want to keep holding on to players who are NQR. I prefer to take a punt on a Taylor special in the second and third rounds.

I guess a lot depends on what happens with Jackson, as his departure might turn into 2 early picks, or it might turn into  pick and a player, or we might on trade the picks we get for him for another player or try to drop down the draft order if we think there is someone we want.

100% @Turner - If Smith goes forward it makes sense retaining as depth with M Brown on the way out. Also question marks on some injuries for others and what will happen to Melk.

As long as he's not taking too much of my boy Hunt's $ i don't mind the signing

True, but he is also a cheap backup option with plenty of versatility. I don't think we would get more out of a rookie pick.

If he can stay fit is he our new Pedo?

If we give him a two year deal and he is injured all year next year he’ll be taking up a valuable spot. If it’s two years if must be performance/games played  based for the second

It's a smart move by the club I reckon.

The game is geared towards athletes now, and he is super athletic.

With his leap he plays tall, he's quick, he's strong and can play mutiple positions.

It's a pretty rare combination of attributes, and I reckon that's why goody likes what he brings to the team so much.

He's probably on a relatively low base payment, with as you suggest performance payments.

So, not a huge hit there.

And we've invested a lot of time and effort already, so there's a sunk cost, so to speak.

On the injury front, yes he'd had some soft tissue injuries (groin), but some have been just plain bad luck.

There's a good team working with him, so really there's no reason why he won't have an extended block of injury free games.

A two year contract shows confidence by the club and in Joel.

We need depth, and a strong Casey team - and Smith helps with both.

So a good move all around.

Cheap, flexible, depth player. No qualms about this. Been on the list for a while but had to spend a lot of time as a Cat b rookie learning the game. Will be handy as our key position players get older.

Not.

Apologies, I promise not to offer an opinion that may differ from that of the MFC in the future

I better delete all my posts questioning the wisdom of getting Grundy after suffering back to back long term injuries.

Spot on. He cant play more than 3 or 4 consecutive games. This has happened every year for 6 years or so.  A list clogger - move him on.

I had to look twice to see if this was Binman or Saty.

Below average post by you here. All Dubdee really said is that he gets injured a hell of a lot. A performance based contract would be ideal. However, my personal opinion is that he wont be taking up much cap room anyway so two years is fine.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
