Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Joel Smith set to sign new contract extension.

As reported on AFL.com..

2 year deal supposedly. To be honest I don't mind this? Especially if he spends a full summer training as a forward where I think we could see some huge growth hopefully next year.

He's the perfect prototype player for this game with his speed, versatility and strength. Gives us an option to throw down back if need due to injury etc.

Agree with this he should be trained to play forward - he has played as a back with success and now needs to add the forward skills to round out his versatility

He certainly has all the physical capabilities to be a weapon in the F50 just needs to learn the craft and stay fit (which has been his big challenge to date)

Joel will be 27 by the start of next season and has played 26 career games in 7 years.

His potential is irrelevant - his lack of durability and propensity to injury makes him the absolute definition of a list clogger.

We are just hoping for something that simply isn't there. Time to move on and find someone who can get on the field most weeks.

True, but he is also a cheap backup option with plenty of versatility. I don't think we would get more out of a rookie pick.

If we re-sign Smith surely that leaves us with limited spots on our list in the up and coming trade period?

Baker, Rosman, Jackson, Hunt, Melksham and Hibberd are now the only players who are out of contract?

Didn't I read somewhere that there is some talk Melksham may get a 1 year extension as well?

Baker will get delisted. Rosman delisted with a potential re-rookie. Hunt will sign on unless he is offered a better deal elsewhere.

I think both Hibbo and Melksham will retire, especially if we win the flag.

Jackson is 99.9% gone.

Bedford is also out of contract I believe.

Also just because someone is signed, doesn't mean we can't trade them. I wouldn't begrudge Chandler if he went elsewhere since he can't get a regular gig and he is good enough to play AFL.

I personally don't see the point he's not best 22, hes injury prone and bot going to make us better during the next 2 years.

He’s proven he can play at AFL level at various stages over the years. His athleticism and versatility makes for excellent depth. The contract wouldn’t be worth much, so I have no problem with this whatsoever.

Cant have a list full of stars or future stars. Gotta have workers like Joel too.

When brought back into the side to plug a hole he’s always done a good job ……….until he gets injured again. Playing a block of uninterrupted games has been his issue. Worth keeping on for spare parts.

I think its wise to keep him.. like lots have said.. he has shown the versatility to be of value.

I think he could be a really viable mobile ruck option at a pinch as well,.

Could he also pinch hit in the ruck the way the blues use silvagni?

I wonder if the club is thinking that Tomlinson may be looking at an opportunity elsewhere, in which case Joel would be needed.

Cheap, proven, can plug and play in our system. If we get a back up tall from somewhere else, we need to train them in our system. If we get a fresh one, we've got 3 years to wait. We know it wont be expensive, so a great player to have on our list mentoring and developing the next generation.

I agree that with Hibbard and Hunt not signed, Rosman not signed and possibly a rookie listed at best, and if I was Tommo I'd be looking around, having Turner and Smith as depth for the next 2 years is a great thing.

Agreed. He has the talent but is just not durable enough for AFL.

he is only handy depth or a good back up if he is fit and available. The sad truth is he is unavailable 80% of the time

a two year deal would be baffling if true

We might be expecting a couple of guys to request a trade elsewhere perhaps? Guys like Tomlinson or Bedford

Haven't seen much of him yet. I certainly think we havent seen his best either.

Glad he's staying on.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
