Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

FMD ! You are being disrespectful to our fellow members!

I meant no offense. I think I just get very frustrated when all the thousands of dollars people pour into the club every year, and have done so even while we were garbage, don’t amount to anything come finals. It’s a joke.

Exceeding 70K will depend on AFL members.  We don't have many and that stand is generally rather empty when we play i/state teams.

I doubt Sydney have many AFL members.

The crowd could easily be 80% demon fans and we will make quite a noise!

AFL members is basically sold out - there's a few seats in one bay on level 4 and a handful of single seats on level 1. Of course as daisycutter said it depends on whether these tickets have actually been bought and its not just a ticketek stuff up but I don't think so.

Plenty of neutral AFL members go along to watch finals no matter who is playing or give their barcodes to friends who support the competing club's as the tickets are cheaper (I only had to pay a booking fee of $21 a seat instead of $80-$90 each).

AFL Reserve will set out for finals regardless of teams playing. As a Gold member I always attend finals and I reckon 30-40% of people in AFL Reserve are AFL Members attending as neutrals, or supporters of the competing teams who have used other members' barcodes.

The question I have is: can AFL members use their barcodes to purchase tickets during the Club Members sale phase?

Afl members is not even close to selling out.

Level 4 Q16-Q27 rows K-DD are not even on sale yet.

There are also at least 500 unused corp allocation that always go on sale 3 days before the game.

Its basically 65% sold, the exact same as Anzac Eve was.

Reckon crowd will be another 70K like Pies, Anzac eve, dreamtime.

You can but not with the AFL members barcode - you need your MFC barcode which is different but the MFC don't email those to us. I get an email from the MFC with my kids barcodes because they are junior MFC members but never get one for my membership.

AFL membership on Facebook was suggesting this to Geelong and Collingwood support members who missed out on tickets only problem was the club members tickets went on sale before the AFL members ones so by the time they realised they'd missed out on AFL membership tickets the club members were basically sold out or only tickets were single seats in the nosebleeds.

Fair enough, I assumed it was sold out as those bays were unavailable to select tickets from. So they are selling level Q bay by bay and keeping the unsold ones for walk-ups then I assume?

Do people still do that? I reckon the last time I saw it was the night Richmond won the 2019 prelim and I walked past my local newsagent at about 12:30am and there was a Tiges nuffy with a deck chair put.

I was a cheer squad member early 60s. We’d  sleep overnight for a H&A game - all grounds except Windy Hill and Vic Park (too dangerous). I slept outside the MCG (sleeping bag on bitumen) in 1966 to get tickets to a GF my team wasn’t playing in. Boy, was I anxious when scores were tied.

Love that you mentioned that Grand Final because my dad was at that one as well. I always hear the story of him standing on beer cans for to get a better look at the game haha.

The AFL is taking club members for granted when so many of us kept the faith and kept buying memberships during COVID and the many years before that too.  In my view club members should be given pretty much exclusive first access to finals tickets outside of the AFL members area and MCC reserve.

Further to my last statement, if the MFC makes thr grand final, MFC members should be given double the allocation of GF tickets normally provided after missing out last year.  Would be a great gesture from the AFL - are they capable of such generosity I wounder?

As far as I understand, for the grand final, tickets get released in priority batches. If you have a GF guarantee with your membership, you are priority 1. Why then, are all finals not the same?

And WTF is with being able to get 10 tickets per barcode? That should only be allowed when general admission is released.

Probably have to contact the club or login to your Melbourne membership account?

Hmm I just logged into my Melbourne FC account and the space where there should be a barcode is blank. Will have to contact the club I guess.

I know it sucks but a premium membership is more expensive because it gives you a higher access to home and away games (ie reserved seating area) and a GF guarantee for the higher premium memberships. It does not guarantee access to premium seats for other finals or even guarantee you will get in to weeks 1-3 of finals.

dworship mentioned there was an option for "Melbourne Premium membership" allocations which I gather had better seats (level N) but there is no guarantee these would not be sold out.

The AFL should stop people buying 10 tickets with one membership that is ridiculous. I can understand having access to one other ticket but 10? You can ring the club and ask them to complain on your behalf but it will likely fall on deaf ears. The AFL just don't give a crap.

I'm always happy to give ticket agencies a whack - I've found it's generally a stressful experience no matter the event or venue size.

In this case however it was pretty smooth sailing after 15 minutes "in the queue". Requested Best Available, had a look at what it gave me and thought yep, that will do. I figure the simpler I make the process at my end, the more likely I'll get a positive outcome. So I didn't shop around for seats in my "preferred" area. Was close enough anyway.

Some changes I'd like to see

1) Sell the games on different days. That's a no-brainer. Reduce the traffic & server load by 50% and you reduce the risk of cokcups.

2) Premium members get their own window. Not necessarily the "best" seats but for the quids they pay out to the club they should be given a decent crack at getting tickets before we "plebs" have a go (sorry @Jaded No More, couldn't resist)

3) Reduce the 10 ticket to one membership allocation significantly. I got four tickets using my daughters MFC membership. Three for members, one for my daughter's non MFC supporting partner who has developed a strong affection for the Dees. But I could easily have used that same barcode to get 6 more tickets for some of my non Melbourne bogan mates. Then used my own barcode for 10 other non Melbourne bogan mates. Rinse & repeat with my other daughters barcode.

I shouldn't be allowed to do that. Nor should anyone else have that capacity

And that’s exactly why the non competing club full AFL member allocation sold out in five minutes for the Pies V Eagles 2018 grand final.

7,000 of the 13,000 odd allocation were already allocated for Collingwood Gold AFL members.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I almost hope Collingwood beat Geelong next week just to avoid the stress of getting tickets for a potential Dees V Pies prelim. (Assuming we take care of business against Sydney)

Nah, let’s hope Collingwood lose this week and then to Freo the week after! I actually think that will happen too. They can’t ride this luck for much longer - not looking at all 9 of their 11 wins by under 10 points, but just 3 of the most recent - Essendon, us and Carlton - they only won those games because of idiotic mistakes from the other sides and being super lucky that everything fell their way. Take those three wins away and they’re barely a top 8 side. Freo will knock them off here just you wait and see!

No the way they do it sell all of level 4 front which for finals is Q15-Q27 rows A-J.

When that’s all gone they put up level 4 middle 2 bays at a time. So they might sell up to row U.

but level 4 back which is row U-DD probabaly won’t go on sale

SEN just reported on the ticket sales from yesterday... apparently 38K tickets were sold for our game. 62k for Geelong v Collingwood.

There was nothing on what sections were sold or how many MCC guest passes are included in that figure. Based on that, I think we are looking at a crowd of 60-65k.

The MCC sold in excess of 8000 reserved, with the extra seats allocated in Q level. The remaining 13k will rely on walk-ups on the day, that is my understanding. Happy to be corrected

I get the frustration.

I feel all members deserve the right to finals tickets.  They are 3 game or interstate members for a reason ie they can't get to games but at least they are contributing to the club.

My issue is mainly the 10 tickets per member and especially if they are for non members.  It should be like the GF:  If you have a Category 1 entitlement but want to buy a GF ticket for people with a lower category entitlement, your category 1 drops to theirs and can only book when their window opens.  And non members go into the 'Public' ticket time slot.  So if a member wants to book them together they go into the 'Public' time slot as they would for the GF.

I would generally say that all members should be equally entitled to a finals ticket regardless of level of membership.  However, given that there was a 'Premium Members' option on Ticketek that should have been reserved for such members and then ONLY ONE TICKET PER MEMBER so that all members classified as 'premium' could get a so called premium ticket.

I see no point of a 'premium member' option if one premium member can get another 9 tickets which could be for non-members ie those who contribute nothing to the club.

If it was run properly there may not be a need for a 'premium member' option as there would be no problem getting premium seats if someone wants to pay for them and if the first window of ticket sales was truly members only without the 10 ticket option.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
