Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It this is all in the plan. Very similar to Burgess in as much as we have this hardening up period in the third quarter of the season (ie very tough training and conditioning) when we do expect to lose some games, but cherry-ripe for the last weeks of the year. Happened this year (and last).

Watch our game go up several notches in two weeks against the Swans…..

Last year we were the third quarter's top dogs and would run out games.

This year we have led regularly and been run over after half time.

This is our real worry. Losing from in front. Even lions won second half.

I hope two weeks rest will refresh like the 2 x 2 weeks rest in the finals last year.

Re loading, my experience is that during the loading phase you feel super fit and strong aerobically, but because of the cumulative fatigue you lose some power/burst speed and sharpness.  E.g. you can run all day, get from contest to contest, win contested ball, but can lose half a step of burst speed and pressure and it is more difficult to execute skills.

Vs Collingwood we won most of the stats but couldn't clear ball from contest (burst speed/skill execution) or shut down their use of the corridor (pressure).  Against Brisbane we were both brutal in contest and obliterated them with spread and ball use.

I'd expect that we now have any loading behind us (we may have stopped loading weeks ago) and it will now be about maintaining peak condition through September.

As a few Demonlanders know i work in high performance outside of my career on here, and the reputation Selwyn Griffith has is amazing, he's especially highly regarded in injury prevention and management which is a huge part of why Burgo was so keen on him.

I think we've had a few more hurdles this year than last year in terms of managing injuries and so on, but the fact we can hit QF week with a fully healthy and fit list and in good form is a credit to the entire program.

I know the media are obsessed with the cats, but i 100% guarantee we have their measure and will beat them if we play them.

The only thing that can stop us going back to back is ourselves, we're perfectly placed.

Which is why I find it strange that you vomit reacted to my post considering I said a lot of what you and other posts here that you liked said.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sometimes what might work one year won't exactly replicate the following year.

I honestly think that we've become hunted all year physically and teams are putting so much work into us that I just think it's caught up to us from a mental and physical perspective.

A decent break over the summer and recharging the batteries will do us good.

  • Grapeviney changed the title to Selwyn Griffith

We have looked unbelievably flat since the middle of the year. Take out the 2 Brisbane games and we’ve struggled in every other game.

I think regardless of how the year plays out from here the club will be asking some touchy questions. It feels like we haven’t quite got it right.

Biggest problem as I see it is the lack of regeneration of the team. It's stale. Timid team selection. Same faces week after week, whatever their performances.  Wasted year...unless something unforeseen happens.

Me and @Gorgoroth have banging on about this like a broken record since the 2nd half of the year.

Goody's refusal to reward blokes in the 2's had been the biggest frustration and disappointment of this year.

Seeing guys like Chandler, JVR, Laurie, Baker and Dunstan continue to put in consistent form at VFL level for little to zero reward is disappointing.

To stay contending for the next few years you have to find ways to regenerate your list and team structure along the way. Find and trial players that can come into the team and add a different element or X factor to give us a different look. Look at the enthusiasm Bowey added to our team last year

We've tried absolutely nothing new this year with team selection and Goody's stubbornness in continuing to play the same names over and over who have been out of form has been a big concern.

And if we had our players might have been fresher and not faded out in games.
It’s hard to say either way but Goodwin is stubborn in selection and game plan it’s a flaw, there is backing the players and plan and then there is blinkers on mode and he has blinkers on mode.

Well the blinkers must be starting to hurt, because he scratched his left leg at least 30 times, in his 7 minute presser after the game.

It's not just that.

Look at Collingwood, they play such a exciting brand of footy and a small part has been the enthusiasm and energy some of their young kids have brought to the team.

Collingwood have had 6 debutants this year, we've had 1 who lasted for 2 quarters. Seeing the like of Nick Daicos and Ash Johnson and what they've added to Collingwood has been enormous.

I see the doggies brought in Sam Darcy the last 3 weeks into the senior team and watched him make a sudden impact down back and then up forward against Hawthorn when he was clucking some big contested marks.

He's given the dogs a whole different mix to their line up and teams have had to now put time into him.

Even Chris Fagan having the balls to play a first gamer in Darcy Willmot on Friday night against a 3 time premiership team. Young Willmot looked right at home and even showed great composure to kick his first AFL.

Goody has had no innovation this year in changing our team selection. He plays it far too safe and it's bland and boring. It's no wonder we have looked so stagnated this year.

Goodwins stubbornness has gotten the better of him this year.

IMO Baker and probs Laurie not AFL standard, Chandler has had 4 or 5 games but probably marginal,  Dunstan was the replacement for AVB who was the security if Viney broke down.  The disappointment is not getting a couple of games into JVR.  Next season he should be ready to go.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
