Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He has this list fit and firing for September

We finished 2nd with a % of 130

Definately the Toughest draw of the entire competition.

Selwyn has been well trained by Burgess.

Let’s get this party started…..

It’s difficult to know what to make of the last few months in terms of our fitness yet I reckon. I really felt against the Dogs, Pies and even Carlton (bar the miracles of Melksham and Koz) that we looked out on our feet after half time. I could see the players really trying, but just not having that burst. Even on Friday night it’s hard to know what to make of the last half, as the game was over, and then the weird emotional vacuum of the Petty incident.

I’m very hopeful we will see the benefits and effort of Selwyn in the next month, but I do think the club would have been sweating on him after the Pies game in particular. It’s a fine balance, and I’d imagine a really difficult job.

Had big shoes to fill. Looks like he has just quietly got the job done.

The week off, and possible additional week off after we splatter Sydney, will be an interesting challenge. I wonder if it might even have been easier to manage it in the Perth Bubble-Hub, without players dealing with all the distractions of normal life.

I blame a Bhodan…..

Awesome work from the fitness and medical teams to have basically a full healthy and bloody fit list 2 years in a row at the pointy end

I mentioned this preseason but was a function with Yze, Jonesy, TMac n Trac in attendance.

Was taking a leak and they all walked in and Trac stood next to me. Asked him if we'd miss Burgess and he said no we are in real good hands with Selwyn.

And no I did not take a peak 😃

Dogs game - 6 day break, Alice springs

Pies game - post Perth in the wet and blowing chances in the first half

Carlton game - mental fatigue and game plan.

Some of our prime movers aren’t as healthy as they were last year. They get the week to freshen up now.

Burgo effect was mostly mental IMO. Time for Griffo mode

This had occurred to me as well. We clearly did not 'close-out' the game to the satisfaction of supporters. They would have known that percentage is important and to secure 2nd spot, a 70+ margin would have all but done that.  But we gave up 2 really soft goals (1 contentious umpiring decision) and played more conservatively, which admittedly is our game style.

Is it self-preservation and avoidance of any injuries or did we legitimately run out of gas (again). Our 1st half was potent and the damage was done, but watching Geelong & Richmond, they didn't take the foot off the gas (acknowledge the opposition in both cases was poor) - they were clinical until the end.

With the likes of Collingwood in finals, i would have liked to see our commitment to attack and score all the way to the end and never let the opposition back in the game. Beggers cant be choosers though and im ecstatic that we are #2 and will have a good crack at the flag again. Lets hope our form is genuine (Pies, Blues and Lions) were all great performances so im thinking it is right where it needs to be.

Pies were coming off back to back 6 day breaks when we played them

I was disappointed we ran out of legs in that game.

It this is all in the plan. Very similar to Burgess in as much as we have this hardening up period in the third quarter of the season (ie very tough training and conditioning) when we do expect to lose some games, but cherry-ripe for the last weeks of the year. Happened this year (and last).

Watch our game go up several notches in two weeks against the Swans…..

This is why I wasn't having any of the 'we badly miss Burgo' stuff. Sure, he was a loss no doubt about that but Selwyn would have been trained very well and privy to a lot of the processes. Burgo may be that extra 10-15% but the list is largely the same and the structures would have been put in place.

I heard the Same sentiment from Players during the Preseason last Summer. They were being worked hard, but they knew why

I  spoke  to a coach, and he thought we were fitter than LY.

Remember this year in the last year of the 3 year plan , started by Burgess.

I think the boys are now more focused as the finals are here.

It's not just their fitness levels. We should also praise Griffiths because we've had so few muscle strains. I'm sure that's a product of the regimen he puts them through.

Injuries can kill your season and while collision style injuries are unavoidable, it's impressive how few players we have had missing with muscle injuries.

Last year we were the third quarter's top dogs and would run out games.

This year we have led regularly and been run over after half time.

This is our real worry. Losing from in front. Even lions won second half.

I hope two weeks rest will refresh like the 2 x 2 weeks rest in the finals last year.

Pre finals bye will be huge for us

We've been running on fumes for a while

The bye weekend will essentially reset all teams from the perspective of game to game turnaround times etc. so we should get a first peak at the overall / top-line fitness for all teams playing finals footy.

Ess - 15th (and club falling apart)

Eagles - 17th

Lions - 4th pre game, 6th after.

Really don’t think you can compare Melb’s finish to Geel/Rich given the relative positions of the opponents. There is not too many top 4/6 teams that don’t come up with some sort of response after a 66 point half time deficit.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
